I've been only doing a 1 1/2 miles a day. I feel like that may be not enough..... Thinking of taking a water aerobics class! Has anyone done this?

  • I've been doing 30 minute yoga. Trying to concentrate on my arms and thighs( holy cellulite!!). I really want to toughen up my stomach muscles, but not sure if it's advisable. I put on 4 pounds after IVF and that bloat it still pretty visible.
  • I'm finally getting some relief from the all day nausea at 9W2D, so I've been trying to get my 10k steps. I'm hoping to get back in the gym this week! I'll do weights and elliptical. I'd love to try some yoga while pregnant, too! I feel so lazy but these last few weeks have been TOUGH with the nausea!

  • @mrs3615 , they have some great yoga vids on youtube. I just put my yoga mat infront of the tv and try my best. Going to a class isn't an option for me at this stage. I wouldn't want to throw up on anyone :-&

@mrs3615 Haha ELLIPTICAL! OMG sooooo lucky you can do that dang machine! I can't even do it for 2 minutes!!! Now the bike... sitting on my bum , that is my style! Woot woot!!!! I think I need to swim, but I may scare the children at the pool! Haha

  • Just walking here. Even though I constantly feel tired, I've noticed that on days I make myself walk 2-3 miles, I feel much less nauseous. I walked 5 days last week, so I've been feeling pretty good!

I'd love to get back to the gym. If I'm feeling brave this week, I'll go in and do the elliptical and some light weights.

Who has a prenatal yoga DVD they want to recommend? Or YouTube channel?

It starts off slow , but I'm normally tired after the first 35 minutes! But yoga can make your nausea worst. The first few weeks, the dizziness really put me off. If you don't like this video, there are many other hatha yoga vids for starters.
  • The farthest I've gotten is ordering prenatal barre DVDs off Amazon, but... I've been feeling better the last couple days so I'm crossing my fingers I'll bust open the package this week.

Been running still (way fewer miles and way less frequently). Walking still (less of that too, but only because I'm slower doing everything and working at a different location more often now, feeling like crap more often, and and and...). But the worst is that I also stopped abs and dancing (home ballet exercises--haven't been attending classes at all for awhile). Anyway, I'm posting because I'm starting dance exercises and abs again this week because it freaks me out that I'll lose my strength and flexibility... but, as PP mentioned, I'm kind of harboring concerns about ab exercises because of weird shit I've heard. My abs feel pulled when I roll over or stretch too hard in the morning as it is. I feel like my abs are alien to me and I don't want to mess with them... kinda like my boobs, but that's another story...

Cannot wait to feel better!! I was doing Piyo until this horrid nausea took over my being. It is a great low impact exercise and will continue it when I have my stomach back!

  • I'm running 2-3 times a week and doing Les Mills body pump 3 times a week. If I can push through the nausea and make myself workout, I get a few hours of freedom for the nausea post workout. My runs have been pitiful the past two weeks, low mileage and slow with even a few walk breaks
  • Walking 2mi per day. Hoping to keep that up!

  • I got a first trimester workout DVD from the library. Earlier this week I did the 24 minute yoga session & loved it when I was feeling up to it. The next day or so I then tried the cardio/toning workout and could only do 6 of the 30 minutes :( I immediately felt hot and out of breath so I stopped. Today I wanted to try again but I've felt bad and keep getting hot flashes with a mild fever so I'm just resting before I see the nurse tomorrow morning.

My goal is 3 workouts a week. I wanted to lose 10 pounds before baby but I guess it'll wait & im just focusing on eating healthy & tracking my food intake with my fitness pal app. Definitely recommend it if u don't have it yet! It breaks down whether you are getting enough protein/carbs/fats per day :)
  • I need to be working out! Honestly though, I'm in survival mode with grad school and have a lot of big projects to focus on since the semester is over in a little more than a week. Once that is over with, I will make sure to eat healthier and exercise like I want to. Great job to all of the ladies that have been working out!

  • MS is starting to ease up for me, too, but it's too hot outside to run so I may hit the gym. Here's a question for some knowledgable weight lifting mamas- I haven't had a regular lifting routine since maybe February? (I got lazy). I know they say whatever you were comfortable doing before you can keep doing during pregnancy, so do you think I can start an easy version of my weight routine again even though I wasn't doing it regularly in the last few months? And are there any certain moves I should avoid? I usually stick with the machines, I don't do free weights, generally.

Im looking forward to getting back to hiking when my MS goes away for good. We were doing a good long hike every weekend and then I had to stop and I miss it!

Hey. Well, before getting put on the "high risk" pregnancy category and now being limited to doing nothing...the doc was allowing me to proceed with running and lifting. This past year the DH and I got into doing free weights. My suggestion (which I think you did touch on) more reps/less weight and ease back into it. This can be the same for gym machines. As far as what moves NOT to do/take part in, for me it only included all decline moves (like decline bench presses) or back flys (which require you laying on your stomach). I continued to do ab work outs, but minimized the strain I was putting on my belly/back. Overall, you know your body best...so just pace yourself and keep hydrated!
  • I've been able to continue doing crossfit 3x per week and running twice a week. I'm doing so much better than I did in my last pregnancy with working out, I'm trying really hard to keep it up!
  • I give you guys credit that have been working out! Its been weeks for me. Have barely enough energy to get out of bed
  • Ok- so today is my first day back in the gym since I was 5 weeks pregnant. MH and I figured out that if I have cereal with almond milk as soon as I wake up, go back to sleep for twenty, my nausea is in check!! I'm doing that stationary bike as I type!!! So friggin proud of myself! Thought I'd do the elliptical today but the bike is a-okay by me :)

  • I've been doing some home workout dvd's as well as trying to walk 1-2 miles a day. My nausea isn't nearly as bad with this pregnancy so I'm really trying to stay active.

I am also trying to keep my eating in check since the nausea isn't too bad. I know that when I eat better, I feel better. Running around after my toddler requires that I feel pretty good!

I think the biggest thing I'm struggling with at this point is how intense to keep my workouts... I don't want to go to easy on myself but I also don't want to push too hard.
  • I've just been walking about two miles per day. I want to do some light weights and abs to keep my tone but I'm having a hard time getting off the couch at night .... I hate working out at home and the gym isn't in the budget (money or time) right now. Excuses excuses excuses I know it's pathetic !

Thanks @cook1118! That's super helpful. I used to do two arm days and two leg days a week on the simpler machines, so I guess I'll start that back up, with lower weights. :) Sweet, I'm really wanting to stay as fit as possible during this pregnancy so that I can recover more quickly once baby comes.

You're at 9 weeks too right? My MS is hitting harder than ever, which I didn't think was possible.

Swimming feels awesome! About the only time I don't feel horrible is when I can get to the pool :) I go during adult swim hours so no scarring kids :)

I'm just trying to squeeze in about two sets of 20-30 minutes of yoga a day. Last week I was swimming and it really helped me feel better. This week the weather isn't swim friendly.

  • Ive been thinking about swimming too! I belong to my local YMCA so I have been going to the gym 5 days per week and doing a bit on the elliptical then lifting some weights, lightly. I also did a class today, easy zumba. I kept taking breaks. It was exhausting!
  • @mrs3615: I swear part of the reason my recovery was a breeze last time was because I ran until I was an elephant and then still walked, average 2 miles a day, every single afternoon. I really want to do at least that this time. Plus I want to get back in shape faster, too.

@MamaFromero: I'm 10 weeks today. Last time my MS didn't subside until 13 weeks, maybe 14? This time I've been feeling okay the last few days and I'm wondering if it isn't going to to ease up a little early. Pleasepleasepleasepleaseplease.... Hope you feel better soon! I'm sorry it's getting worse! :(

  • I wanted to start walking today since the doctor has cleared me for "easing back into it" and I haven't had any spotting in 7 days, but living in Florida in summer means it rains every freaking day around 6/7 pm. I'm also trying to study as much as possible for my next, knock on wood - last, CPA test on 7/31 so I don't have as much time to work out as I would like. I'm sure if I stayed off of here, I would have lots more time to do a yoga video or ride our stationary bike, but we all know that won't happen.

  • I'm a 4-5 day a week runner & lift weights several times a week. I found out last week about pregnancy (think 8 weeks according to this app) my first dr visit isn't until July 17th & dr office advised no running until after 1st trimester. I'm dying here! Any advice on this? It seems like most others ran early on & other websites recommend it. How about weights at gym, what is ok?

I've been only doing a 1 1/2 miles a day. I feel like that may be not enough..... Thinking of taking a water aerobics class! Has anyone done this?

I've always wanted to do water aerobics!! Haha. Tell me how it goes.

Before getting pregnant I was doing crossfit 4-5 times a week then stopped for about 3 months due to complications getting pregnant. Finally went back Thursday and I was soooo nervous I have heard so many differing things about wether to do abs or not. I felt weird after. I'm just trying to take it easy which is weird for me! I think because it's my first pregnancy after my MC I'm just afraid of doing anything which I know I need to get past. Good job to all of those who are trying to keep up their fitness!

  • I was pretty active prior to getting pregnant so this topic was definitely on my mind at first prenatal appt. My doc seems to be a bit in the conservative side. She said I can continue with what I've been doing as long as my heart rate stays below 140. And of course she said to limit and/or stop activities that I could get injured in. I guess that means no wind surfing during our vacation next week!

I've never heard of them advising against running. My doctor said I couldn't play contact sports (if you've seen me walk, you would know that is not an issue for me, I'm an accident waiting to happen). Maybe because there might be a hard impact with the ground? I'm not sure. Weights should be okay, just listen to your body if you need to rest and don't push yourself too hard. But maybe ask your doctor for a go ahead first..

  • My city has a free Total Body Dance class that really gives me a good cardio and muscle workout twice a week for an hour each session. It is my absolute favorite thing but I caught a nasty cold from my husband last week and couldn't even make it through the day at work today. Looks like I won't be going to class til I'm feeling better :(
  • Walked about 2.5 mi today... Sad that's it's a victory given how I used to workout! We are telling my fam tonight about the pregnancy so I'm hoping I can get a little more guilt free babysitting from them and maybe use it to go swim some laps. I'm also trying to find some prenatal yoga classes but they tend to be so expensive!
  • I'm normally super active - gym, sports, walking/hiking with the dog, but the last few weeks the heat, going out of town and the exhaustion really brought my activity level down to zilch besides the dog walks. Last night I played ultimate frisbee for the first time in 3 weeks (if you don't know the sport it's a team sport with lots of sprinting). I was so slow and got out of breath so quickly. I need to sort my schedule out better so I stay more fit than this. Also I was basically crop dusting the entire field while I was playing #teamplayer
  • This week has not gone as planned for me workout-wise. I missed Monday and Tuesday due to work travel. I could've easily worked out in my hotel gym, but didn't. Now my only hope to reach my goal of 4-5 times a week is to go every day for the rest of the week! I don't know if that's going to happen but I'm going to try! First step, 5:30pm crossfit this afternoon.
