Hi everyone. I haven't drank at all since being pregnant even though I know some nurses and docs have said an occasional glass of wine here or there will not hurt, especially in third trimester. We have a wedding tonight and was pondering a small glass but then have made it this far so what's another few months. Has anyone had an occasional glass of wine? Thoughts? Thx

My Ovulation Chart
La Leche League's The Breastfeeding Answer Book (pp. 597-598) says:
Alcohol passes freely into mother's milk and has been found to peak about 30 to 60 minutes after consumption, 60 to 90 minutes when taken with food. Alcohol also freely passes out of a mother's milk and her system. It takes a 120 pound woman about two to three hours to eliminate from her body the alcohol in one serving of beer or wine...the more alcohol that is consumed, the longer it takes for it to be eliminated. It takes up to 13 hours for a 120 pound woman to eliminate the alcohol from one high-alcohol drink. The effects of alcohol on the breastfeeding baby are directly related to the amount the mother consumes.

We did redo an antique buffet a few weeks ago, and we got a tabletop wine rack to decorate it. My husband was paranoid that me walking around the liquor store would look bad, but it was fine. But I did feel the need to say "this wine is just for decoration right now!".
Pointless.
Alcohol free wine is grape juice.
Alcohol free wine is grape juice.
There is alcohol free sparkling wine.... Not just "grape juice". Not sure why one would absolutely need to have a drink while pregnant in the first place. It's only a 9 month sacrifice. Might as well have a cigarette along with it.
But, that's just my view on it.
And just to add, for those that are worried about looks or judgements people, I also get judged when someone offers me something because "it's fine to have one or two" and I decline, I get judged for being snoody. Ya just can't win with people. Make yourself happy and don't worry about what others think.
But, that's just my view on it.
Wine is fermented grape juice. If you don't ferment it, bubbles or not, it's grape juice. Sorry. Still grape juice. Not worth the sugar and calories.
Not one person here has said they "absolutely need a drink". Some people LIKE beer or wine the same way others like a steak, or a cookie. For others it's a long time hobby.
And a glass of wine is not a cigarette. Making claims like that makes any reasonable person discredit you in their mind.
But, that's just my view on it.
So much sanctimony. Also wine =/= cigarettes. At all.
So, to me.. They're both poisons you can "technically" have on occasion and hopefully without hurting the baby... But, why do it? If it is clearly fact that it can cause your child harm?
That's what i meant by that comparison. Yes they are equal. Equally toxic. Why justify one and not the other? Seems silly to me.
Again, to each their own.. But science is science and fact is fact. We aren't even supposed to use ibuprofen, or aspirin - or soft cheeses for god sake... So not sure why the extent of justification done on alcohol use.
