How long did your induction take?

I sure this will vary by every person, but how long did your inductions take?

I'm scheduled to be induced on 7/7 if my little guy doesn't come on his own by then. We have to be at the hospital at 8 am to start

Re: How long did your induction take?

  • Roughly 6 hours with my first. I was 3cm when I arrived.

  • Ugh. I've been here since last night at 9. 1 cm and only 50% partially effaced. They have the pitocin cranking and I don't feel a thing. Shoot me nowwwww! I'll probably be here all weekend.
  • My first was 23 hours and 45 minutes my second was 14 hours

I arrived at 6am for mine, water broken and pitocin started at 8am. I labored for 8 hours before pushing and pushed for 3.5 hours. I was 5cm and 100% effaced when I got to the hospital.

  • I was started between 7 and 8 am with both of mine and they were born at 1:30 and 2:30 pm. Hoping for baby #3 to go that quickly.
  • From check in to birth it was about 18 hours.
  • 3 hours, 10 min of that was pushing :) my Dr said not to wait around when my labour starts this time as that short of labour is not common on pitocin & I'll likely be very fast again. There's no way to know for sure, so different from woman to woman. Hope yours is quick!!
  • I'm scheduled for an induction next week. I'll be 41+2 and doing a nighttime induction with cervidil and then pitocin in the am. Was anyone else told they can't eat or drink after 1pm on that day? I'm more concerned I will be exhausted, nauseated, and with a headache from not eating by the time I have to push a baby out 12-24 hours later!
  • With DD1 about 45 hours from the start of the induction process to birth. With DD1 I went into labour spontaneously and the whole process from period type pain to birth was around 6 hours xx
  • First child from check in till birth 18 1/2 hours
  • 7 hours and 17 min of pushing
  • I'm being induced on Monday and going in Sunday night for cervidil softening. I'm hoping mine is speedy. At last check effaced 75% but no dilation.

How far up to going in did they say you can eat/drink?
  • From check in to baby 7 hours, with 7 mins of pushing.
  • Forever!!!!!! And in lots of pain! :/ mines took about 25hrs then 3pushes and baby was out.
  • I was sent down from my doc's office at 9:30 am, 2.5 cm dialated but not really effaced at all, 37 weeks 2 days. Babe was not engaged. Pitocin drip started at 11am, and didn't make much progress til probably 6 pm? Epidural sometime after 6:30 and Baby girl was born at 8:26 pm. I was really afraid I was going to be in labor until the next day.
  • @jesshrou - my doctor said to eat something before coming into the hospital. So I ate dinner at 6pm and checked into hospital at 8pm. I was overdue so I was induced on Tuesday. Started me on cervadil at midnight (so technically Wednesday) and that feel out around 6 am when I had to go to the bathroom. Broke my water Around 8 am and they started pitocin and at a check at 12:30 they realized that i was ready to push (had the epidural). Turned over the room and little Luke made his appearance at 1:01pm.
  • @ducksquack813 that's quick! were you dilated at all before being induced?
  • I have the same plan on thursday. My doctor told me to eat as much as I can handle before arriving to the hospital because I will be be able to eat during my stay.
  • 12 hours with my first...20 minutes of pushing. This time I am 3cm 0 station & 80% effaced..I am being induced 7/7 and I start with pitocin drip @ 1am.
  • With my first 26 hrs. I was only 1cm when I went in. I pushed for less than 5 minutes. I was sooo hungry! I am hoping to avoid it this time but it wasn't the worst thing in the world.
  • With DD it was about 22 hours from check-in to birth. I wasn't dilated at all or efaced when I checked in.

  • My water broke at 2:45 this afternoon with no contractions.. it took about an hour for my husband to get home from work, get my last minute hospital items and get checked in.. Was only 1 cm and 80% ... I've been on pitocin for almost 4 hours to start contracting. They're hitting every 2-3 minutes now, but they haven't determined whether I've started "active labor" quite yet... My doctor came and checked on me about an hour ago and said with pit it could take any amount of time before baby's here, it's all depending on your body and your labor.. Everyone is different

    Good luck!!!
  • 15 hours of labor and an hour and a half of pushing. I started the pitocin around 4:30pm at 1cm. I got the epidural around 2am and slept the rest of the time. By 8am when I woke up, I was at a 10. When my doctor came, I pushed for a little over an hour and she popped right on out!
  • I had a 2 step induction. I was 41.3 weeks, barely effaced, and almost dilated to 1cm.. So my cervix was extremely stubborn. The 12 hour cervidel got me to 2cm... They started pitocin, and shut it off 40 mins in, as j had dilated to 4cm. From start of pitocin, to pushing was 4 and a half hours. She got stuck for an hour and a half.

Good luck today!!! You get to meet your baby!
  • Only 9 hours from the time my water broke to baby being here! 7 hours from the time the pitocin was started, 3 hours with the epidural, and 45 minutes of pushing! :) she was born 5 minutes from midnight 7/6/15!

I was induced with low fluid when I was 36 + 4. Pitocin started at 10:30am. She arrived promptly at 5 pm. 2 pushes and she was out. When I arrived I was 2-3 cm dilated.
  • I went in for my OB APPT LAST TUESDAY (a day before my due date). She checked my amniotic fluid and it was low so she recommended I be induced. I had been 2 cm dialated and 80% effaced for a couple weeks and she was WAY low. They started me on cervadil for 12 hours and that didn't do anything so they started Pitocin. After a couple hours of that, baby's heart rate dropped for a few minutes so they had me change positions and took me off of it....so scary. They started me on a low dose again after an hour or so once baby's heart rate had remained stable. I was on it for 6 hours and then they changed my IV port since it had been acting up all day. As soon as they changed the port, I started having more regular contractions. All of a sudden I was 6 cm dialated and that jumped to 10 cm after only 10 minutes. Baby came a few minutes after that. So literally it was less than 2 hours after they switched the IV port that I delivered. Talk about crazy fast dialation! My midwife even left to go get lunch after she checked me and I was 6 cm. my mom had to run out and find her 10 minutes later because I was crowning!
