So we all know how expensive stocking up can be, especially for first time moms. Who is planning on doing cloth this time around ? Maybe we can post details of sales and deals we find and share what we get here?

Thanks to the knowledge of @everycol0r she has convinced me to go with the Best Bottoms system and I made up a registry at Nicki's Diapers...

My first is still in cloth, so I'm definitely cding the new baby. I don't have any nbs because I didn't start with DD until she was a few months old. I'm lucky though, because my sister makes them and has a bunch of nbs she's going to loan me.

We did cloth diapers on the weekends with our first. Daycare didn't do cloth. I have a bunch of Bum Genius pockets, a couple of another brand I can't remember, and a couple G Diapers that I can totally use again.

I'm almost positive that I want to use cloth, but I'm not 100% sure. We might cloth at home and use disposables when out doing errands and traveling.

That's what we did when her poops were unpredictable @chickendancefever Now that I'm not afraid of her pooping while we're out, we do cloth all day. I've always used disposables at night, though. I'm too afraid of leakage, which is irrational, because her disposables leak sometimes.

@blueeyedrose86 Do you clean the diaper when you are out and she poops? I'm trying to figure out the logistics of changing the baby and then trying to hold the baby while I dunk and swirl the diaper.

We've been using cloth with DS since he was 7 weeks old. We've primarily used flats with covers (Thirsties are my favorites). I started pinning diapers within the last year and will definitely use those again. I plan to use cloth with this baby, too. Our flats will need to be replaced (but after nearly three years I feel we got our money's worth), but most of the covers are in decent shape and have some life left in them, as do our pail liners, wetbag, and most of the wipes. I'd like to have more AIOs or pocket diapers for DH or MIL (who will likely be watching this baby at least one day a week), and use flats and pins the rest of the time.

I definitely do not recommend buying one type of diaper. You need to see what works for your baby. Lots of people love Blueberries, for example, but the Blueberry pocket diaper I have has NEVER fit DS right and has consistently leaked. I thought we would like Flips, and DH likes the ease of them, but I was not impressed with how the elastic has held up. I think it's wise to sample different diaper types or get a trial to see what works for you.

As for dealing with poopy diapers while out and about - I put the dirty diapers in a plastic bag and then throw them in our wet bag to take care of when we get home. The few overnight trips we've taken I've just used disposables.

We CD our twins and #3 will be as well. They're so easy and not super gross, I promise lol. We used prefolds and covers for the newbie stage since they go through so many diapers. We now use pockets with inserts. We use disposables when out and about and overnight.

As far as poop, newborn poop is water soluble and just goes in the wash. Once they're on solids it gets kinda gross and I've found rinsing off with a sprayer is easiest. Once they're totally on solids it's easy again, just plop the poo in the loo and flush.

@chickendancefever I honestly can't remember a time that she has pooped while out in cloth. Usually when she poops, it's shortly after waking up, so we're clear for the day. Like @katekat8721 said about newborns, that poop is water soluble and can go in the washing machine, so I would probably just wrap that up and put it in a wetbag.

We are just potty training DD after 2.5 years of cloth diapering, will definitely cd this time around as well. I like prefolds and covers (Bummis and Thirsties) for nb stage, then fitteds and wool covers for after that. I'm going to knit a few pairs of longies and have some sbish covers and longies that dd used. I'll need to get more prefolds (probably 2 dozen more) for the itty bitty stage.

I don't know about others, but when dd pooped when we were out I'd just throw the whole diaper (folded up) into the wetbag and deal with it once I got home. EBF poop needs no rinsing etc., and then later on, once she had solid poops, it would just plop into the toilet. The bag contained all wetness and smell, so it was really no problem!

We did not cloth diaper with our first but we are really exploring the idea now ! We have a lot to do as far as research , a lot of our friends CD so I am hoping to lean on them for some tips too!

I am glad that the poo issue is not a big deal.

I just ordered a few fuzzibunz that were only $7 each and got some rumparooz which I've read great things about online but we're definatly pricey at $26 each - anyone got nick's own brand ?

I will definitely cd this time as well. CDed my girl from birth until potty training. Already looking for nb diapers. I love blueberry simplex, peachy greens and bum genius elementals. For those who are new to cding, don't bother trying to rinse any poopy diapers until baby starts solids. Nb poop is water soluble. Get a great wetbag. I like mfd wet bags. Throw them in the bag until time to wash. You will be washing frequently so don't worry it will not sit long

Currently cloth diapering a toddler. Our stash mainly consists of BumGenius pocket diapers, which for the most part has been great. Last go around we started at 3 months. This time, I want a newborn stash too, so we can start at birth. I plan on mainly using GMD fitteds ands covers and a few newborn AIOs. We'll do one-size pocket diapers again after he/she outgrows the newborn diapers.

I plan to use them again. We had to stop when DS was around a year because he developed a horrible rash. Turns out he had developed an allergy to the microfiber in our BumGenius diapers, and we only had 2 diapers that weren't BG. I was not about to go out and buy all new diapers.

Anywho, I'm a huge fan of pocket diapers for both ease of use AND a happy wallet. We registered for them (used Amazon's baby registry), and I never had to pay a scent. People bought most of what I needed and what I didn't get I purchased with gift money. BumGenius has buy 3 get 1 free sale every few months. Keep your eyes peeled!

I skip the newborns. I CD to save money, and it's not cost-effective to buy that many diapers for a month.

For all you on-the-fencers, it really is not that much work. It's an extra 2 or 3 loads of laundry a week, that only takes a few minutes to re-stuff in front of the TV (if you use pockets). That's it. I HATE (hate hate hate hate hate) laundry, I work full-time, and I still tell everyone they should CD!

We currently use cloth (have since our DS was 6 weeks) and will absolutely do it again. We primarily use Bumgenius 4.0 pockets (love them) and have some Nicki's brand (they are okay) as backup. We tried Flip and Best Bottom in the beginning but didn't prefer those systems. We used cloth exclusively for the first full year but DS always leaked at night. I tried many different options but couldn't fix the problem, so now I use disposables at night. Cloth diapering is not for everyone, but I find it very simple and worth it.

Am I right in thinking (from the history of families we should be expecting a larger pumpkin in the 8-11lb round range (yes pity me now)... but if they baby is on the larger side I can use Prefolds for NB stage still using my Best Bottoms covers then switch to the best bottoms pad system once he has grown into them.

Again I am hoping most are purchased for registry ($$ probably the biggest prezzie people could give you really!) but don't want to purchase NB covers for a short time. First couple of weeks we will probably use 'sposies until the meconium clears.

After we hit one year, we weren't able to come up with an overnight solution (tried prefolds, fst, hemp, fitteds) that didn't leak, so we do disposables overnight too.

I was still able to save by using nb cloth. Resell on nb CDs is great since its not used very long.

LOVE using cloth with my 14mo! The only time we were in disposable was when he was in the NICU and they wouldn't let us use cloth (some places do, ours would not).

I'm happy to share what I know! Mostly, I use a lot of secondhand diapers. Cheaper than new and they work just fine.

We've been CD'ing for about 14 months and love it! Our stash is mostly BumGenius, Smart Bottoms and Blueberry. I also have several Rumparooz but I do not recommend them as the quality is just not there. They are they only diapers and wet bags that have delaminated on me!
