Weekend Check In (and recovery!)

Hope everyone had a wonderful 4th of July.  I celebrated with friends here in England and kept "drinking" out of my giant Dunkins cup.  Only one person noticed I never put vodka into my soda  water/orange juice mix and we were planning on telling him after the crowd left.  Anyways I cooked up a double batch of these and served with a side of sweet chilli sauce and soy sauce (or Braggs aminos if your GF)... they went down a hit with everyone! https://theclothesmakethegirl.com/2013/03/05/bora-bora-fireballs/

Re: Weekend Check In (and recovery!)

  • Week: 6!

What's new with baby (size, development): Its a lentil... and forming eyes and limbs

What's something new you are doing to get ready for baby: DH is out of town for 9 days so I went on a bit of a shopping spree... plan on taking pictures/organising but also returning several things as I get used to the prices and what is a good deal!

Rant/rave/symptoms: Either I have horrible bloat that isn't affecting my IBS, and I KNOW I haven't eaten any "bad" foods... or I am convinced I am carrying twins.  My first US is Friday so we will find out.

Questions for the Group: I am due to start a PhD in Oct and will need to take time off- missing a mini project.  I am really considering approaching the head of the group and seeing if I can do one of the mini-projects Aug/Sept (still being paid by my teaching job so don't need to ask for money).  Any advice on how to tactfully approach this?  I was thinking of putting together a plan for my first year there (including leave) and a proposal of how I could make it work taking the 6 months off till the baby can go into DC and I can come back full time.

GTKY: Doctor or Midwife? Hospital or Home? Painkillers? Water?  Doula? Witch doctor?  Mother? ... Its early on but what ideas do you have for a birth plan/need to investigate further?  I have no family close by, its my first and only a few of my friends have babies so I am really thinking about a doula (cost £400-£600ish) which is antenatal, full birth assistance and postnatal assistance.  Due to my condition I need to be in a hospital and already have a midwife AND a doctor so I am not sure if its worth the money.

What's new with baby (size, development): an Appleseed

What's something new you are doing to get ready for baby: still nothing

Rant/rave/symptoms: still battling the extreme fatigue and still peeing on all the sticks like a crazy person because for some reason, seeing I'm pregnant will prevent another m/c *insert extreme sarcasm*. I don't know why I continue to test. Maybe it's because it helps me feel like today, I am pregnant.

    Questions for the Group:

GTKY: Doctor or Midwife? Hospital or Home? Painkillers? Water? Doula? Witch doctor? Mother? ... Its early on but what ideas do you have for a birth plan/need to investigate further? Just doing what we did with our first. A hospital birth with whatever ob is on call from our practice with an epidural.

What's something new you are doing to get ready for baby: Nothing yet, just enjoying the happy news!

Rant/rave/symptoms: @KMKaiser07 -- I, too, am still peeing on sticks!! It won't feel real until I go for my first appt (July 21). It's a strange in-limbo feeling right now... Slightly fatigued, but nothing extreme. Hoping that I don't get morning sickness. Ugh.

    Questions for the Group: Nothing!

GTKY: Doctor or Midwife? Hospital or Home? Painkillers? Water? Doula? Witch doctor? Mother? ... Its early on but what ideas do you have for a birth plan/need to investigate further? Same as @KMKaiser07! Hospital with whatever ob is on call from our practice with an epidural.

  • @KMKaiser07 @navegalejos I haven't POAS since getting my BFP but I am still temping every morning to make sure it's not dropping. DH still asks about it every morning. It definitely makes both of us feel better until the first u/s. I'm also symptom spotting like crazy because it helps the pregnancy seem more real!
  • Week: 4w6d

What's new with baby (size, development): Growing as large as a peppercorn!

What's something new you are doing to get ready for baby: Nothing, just symptom spotting to keep reminding/proving to myself I am actually KU. :)

Rant/rave/symptoms: My nipples became much darker last night and my areolas were puffier and larger this morning. So crazy to see these body changes!

    Questions for the Group:

GTKY: Doctor or Midwife? Hospital or Home? Painkillers? Water? Doula? Witch doctor? Mother? ... Its early on but what ideas do you have for a birth plan/need to investigate further? My birth plan will be very traditional.... At a hospital with a doctor and epidural as PP have mentioned. My mom is a labor and delivery nurse so I'm excited to have her there with me reading the situation and helping make me the most comfortable.
  • Week: 4+4

What's new with baby (size, development): Stil working on the spinal column

What's something new you are doing to get ready for baby: I got some soft dresses today to wear when I go back to work. Also I have an appt with my GP tomorrow to discuss next steps

Rant/rave/symptoms: I am so tired this weekend. Also I go between being ravenously hungry and feeling so sick to my stomach that I get dizzy before I can think about eating. DH is having a hard time coping with this!

Questions for the Group: does anyone have family members that are having a hard time accepting your pregnant? My FIL is telling everyone and my MIL keeps saying IF your pregnant. I'm like I've had two positive tests, symptoms and AF is MIA, what more do I need to do to prove this to you?

GTKY: Doctor or Midwife? Hospital or Home? Painkillers? Water? Doula? Witch doctor? Mother? ... Its early on but what ideas do you have for a birth plan/need to investigate further? I am thinking about a water birth but to be honest I think I'm going to be all about the pain meds when the time comes.

What's new with baby (size, development): Poppyseed - grow baby!

What's something new you are doing to get ready for baby: I sorted out my maternity clothes from last pregnancy.

Rant/rave/symptoms: There was a heat wave, so yes, I was exhausted, everything smelled, and there was a hint of nausea, but was it the weather, the pregnancy or my mind? I also had major cramps, which was scary. Then I peed on a stick and now I'm convinced it's twins again.

Questions for the Group: none right now

GTKY: Doctor or Midwife? Hospital or Home? Painkillers? Water?  Doula? Witch doctor?  Mother? ... Its early on but what ideas do you have for a birth plan/need to investigate further?
Combination of doctor and midwife, hospital birth and home labour. That's what we did last time. I wrote an elaborate birth plan and although some things changed along the road, I felt it really helped us communicate with the medical professionals and they were very open to discussing this.

Week: 4w/5d...only 231 more days (give or take) to go.  UGH

What's new with baby (size, development):  Have my second set of betas tomorrow.  Excited/nervous to see what they are.  I'm fortunate that Scripps posts test results online as soon as they're received, so I don't need to wait for my doc to call me.  That said, I've been stressing over the first set of numbers and consulting Dr. Google.  It's really sad how much a previous loss traumatizes you.

What's something new you are doing to get ready for baby:  Nada

    Rant/rave/symptoms:  Still crampy.

    Questions for the Group:

GTKY: Doctor or Midwife? Hospital or Home? Painkillers? Water?  Doula? Witch doctor?  Mother? ... Its early on but what ideas do you have for a birth plan/need to investigate further?

Deliver in a hospital with as many painkillers as they'll give me, just like last time.  I'd love to have my OB deliver (he's awesome!), but he's on rotation at the hospital so unless it's a scheduled birth, it's a crapshoot.
  • Week: 5w4d

What's new with baby (size, development): Appleseed

What's something new you are doing to get ready for baby:
Since I found out we're expecting last Sunday, I've been drinking a ton of water, nearly cut out caffeine (mostly by coffee/soda aversion) and have been wearing my Fitbit again and getting in long walks.

    Rant/rave/symptoms:
I wake up around 3 am every morning to pee and then lie awake for another hour or so. Also, I had sore boobs previously, but they're on a new level now. It hurts when I'm lying on my sides. I dropped my H off at the airport today and almost squeaked when we hugged because of how sore they are now!

    Questions for the Group:
What books are you ladies planning on reading? I've done very little research on pregnancy/baby books (read: none) but from what I've heard, Expecting Better and Happiest Baby on the Block may be on my list. I don't think I'm going to get What To Expect because I've heard it's kind of scary and full of stuff that can go wrong - don't need that kind of negativity this early on, even if it is reality.

GTKY: Doctor or Midwife? Hospital or Home? Painkillers? Water? Doula? Witch doctor? Mother? ... Its early on but what ideas do you have for a birth plan/need to investigate further?
Hospital birth with a doctor. I'll definitely take the epidural. I've recently heard about delayed clamping of the umbilical cord and the benefits of that, so I'm going to research that some more. We'll do skin to skin.

That's not ok! The first thing my father said last time around though was: "Six weeks? It's really not smart to tell anyone so early on, it could go wrong you know?". Thanks dad.

The only reason he knows at all is he's in his 80s and in frail health. We told both sets of parents because both my FIL and my father have life threatening illnesses.

    What's new: Appleseed

What am I doing to get ready for baby? Bought what to expect...I don't think it's that scary like people say- trying not to read too far ahead.

Rants/raves/symptoms: still spotting in the morning when I wake up but then it's nothing for the rest of the day- had a mini meltdown this am bc there was some stringy clots as well. No cramping though so I'm going with positive thoughts. Boobs still a little tender and I am tired- slept for 12 hours last night!

Questions for the group: I know I'm being obsessive here, bc I already asked my dr about the spotting, but when do you think I should call her again about it if it persists without sounding crazy? It's been a week total that it's been happening?

GTKY: I honestly haven't thought past my 1st prenatal appt at 11 weeks. I am terrified of somthing happening before then.

That was my mom this time. I hated having to explain to her that after our miscarriage we wanted our baby celebrated no matter how long it's with us and if something went wrong, we wanted support.

I'm in the boat you are paying them to be there to help you. If you are concerned, you pay them to be there to answer questions. Does your practice have an online portal you could send a message through? Usually spotting without cramps is nothing to worry about but don't ever hesitate to call when you need reassurance.

What's new with baby (size, development): Poppyseed

What's something new you are doing to get ready for baby: I'm reading everything possible and I've cut out caffeine as much as I can.

Rant/rave/symptoms: I miss my coffee in the morning!  It's not so much the coffee itself, it's more the habit and drinking something warm.  I was going to switch to decaf tea, but I've found such conflicting information on what teas are safe during the 1st trimester.  I feel like I'm going to get sick of lemonade very quickly! :(

Questions for the Group: My sister-in-law is having a bachelorette party in two weeks on a lake in Las Vegas.  If you've ever been to Vegas in the summer, you know it is HOT!  Average temps at the lake this week have all been over 107*.  It's a houseboating parting, so I would be stuck on the boat for three days.  I talked to a nurse and she said it would be fine as long as I stayed hydrated, but does anyone else feel that this would be a miserable trip, especially if I start getting hit with morning sickness?  I feel horrible for canceling on her, but I can't think of anything worse than being stuck on a boat, sick, and worried about overheating and harming my pregnancy.

GTKY: Doctor or Midwife? Hospital or Home? Painkillers? Water? Doula? Witch doctor? Mother? ... Its early on but what ideas do you have for a birth plan/need to investigate further?

Rant/rave/symptoms: This weekend exhausted me. We stayed at the lake 3 nights with my in laws and I don't feel like I rested at all the entire time. We came home early today and I slept for 2 hours. Planning on getting in bed extra early tonight.

    Questions for the Group:

GTKY: Doctor or Midwife? Hospital or Home? Painkillers? Water? Doula? Witch doctor? Mother? ... Its early on but what ideas do you have for a birth plan/need to investigate further?
I've worked in the hospital where the birthing center is that we'll be in with our doctor and/or midwife. It's very nice. I'm still unsure about an epidural. That might change when the time comes. Lol. Our first appointment with my doctor is July 31st. I think I'll stop POAS every other day too after this appointment.

Nothing new. Tomorrow starts a new week!

What's something new you are doing to get ready for baby:
We've been dabbing in names but nothing has stuck yet.

    Rant/rave/symptoms:
Rant: I told my parents right after DH and asked them not to tell anyone. BOTH of them told their moms (my grandmothers)! I was so upset! This is our first and I told my mom that I had planned on telling them myself and it was supposed to be special to me. My mom felt genuinely sorry so I couldn't stay mad at her. We told my sisters over the weekend, so I was able to vent to my sister about it.

Symptoms: I had cramps yesterday. They weren't severe and went away. It was probably from all the walking in Dallas we did. I also cried- not just teared up but bawled- at the JFK Sixth Floor museum. Too emotional! Today I had my first bout of nausea. We are breakfast super late- like 10:30 and I got overwhelmingly sick while waiting for the food. I didn't throw up, but that was mind over matter- I definitely could have.

I definitely need to explore my options! This is my first and I'll probably go american traditional- doctor/hospital/epidural, but I'm open to other methods!

For our first, I was in the hospital with a doctor and no drugs. That's the plan again, although if I had the option I'd 100% choose midwife/homebirth/waterbirth. But I live in an extremely rural community, and there are no midwives here at all :'( Still on the fence about hiring a doula for some extra support, but my husband was a rockstar last time around so I'm not sure. I ended up having to have a vacuum assist, which I was pretty devastated about (and it hurt!!) so I'm going to try all that I can to avoid that this time around. We'll definitely do delayed clamping, skin to skin, etc. if all is well.

    Questions for the Group:
    None today.

GTKY: Doctor or Midwife? Hospital or Home? Painkillers? Water? Doula? Witch doctor? Mother? ... Its early on but what ideas do you have for a birth plan/need to investigate further?

I definitely need to explore my options! This is my first and I'll probably go american traditional- doctor/hospital/epidural, but I'm open to other methods!

Are you visiting Dallas or do you live in the metroplex ?!

September Siggy Challenge : Favorite Childhood Movies ( Sorry I have two)

  • What's new with baby (size, development):
We are an Appleseed (maybe seeds we will take a look at our scan on Thursday !)

What's something new you are doing to get ready for baby: pinning on Pinterest like crazy. This is our second so I am excited to get into doing another nursery and we are going to attempt cloth diapering !

Rant/rave/symptoms: so much bloat this time. The morning sickness has reared its head earlier this time as well but if it means that I am still pregnant I will take it .

We will most likely have another c section. I have some heart conditions and my cardiologist likes the idea of controlled environment . We labored all day with my first and ended up with a cs, it was not a big deal for me personally.

Midwife.  I'm sad my midwife practice from my first two deliveries shut down so I'm going with someone the midwife who delivered my second recommended.

    Week:
    4 + 6

What's new with baby (size, development):

    @samanthafavorite
We were just visiting. I live in East Texas.
  • Can I just say that i'm so excited to be here now! And seeing some familiar people from TTC board!!

    Week: 4

What's new with baby (size, development): poppyseed!

What's something new you are doing to get ready for baby: I just got the BFP last night before bed and haven't found the right time to tell DH, so figuring out a cute way to do that is first on my list! We are going car shopping tonight, so that is a possibility!!

Rant/rave/symptoms: Having the bloated feeling, especially after eating. Seems sadistic but I am hoping for morning sickness and food aversions!

    Questions for the Group:

GTKY: Doctor or Midwife? Hospital or Home? Painkillers? Water?  Doula? Witch doctor?  Mother? ... Its early on but what ideas do you have for a birth plan/need to investigate further? If the baby sticks (rainbow baby) I am leaning towards an all natural birth with midwifes. As far as the birth, it will just be me and DH!
  • Week 4
What's new with baby (size, development): The size of a poppyseed.

What's something new you are doing to get ready for baby: Nothing yet, just scheduled my first doctors appointment to confirm pregnancy.

Rant/rave/symptoms: Only found out on Friday and it seems that my symptoms have multiplied over the weekend. Yesterday I couldn't keep anything down and I had the worst migraine. Thankfully I am better today.

Questions for the Group: Nothing yet, but it is still early days :)

    GTKY: Doctor or Midwife? Doctor.
Hospital or Home? Hospital, but if it was at all an option I would love a home birth. I live in a small town without a hospital. The risk is too high if something should go wrong.
Painkillers? Water?  Doula? Witch doctor?  Mother? I will probably go the same route I did with my first pregnancy. Normal birth with an epidural.
Its early on but what ideas do you have for a birth plan/need to investigate further? Still need to investigate further.
