I'm starting to look into maternity clothes, I'm thinking maxi dresses and skirts are going to be my go-to. Does anyone have any suggestions for the best places to shop for maxis and maternity clothes in general? Or recommendations on what to wear
I went to Macy's, Khols, and Destination Maternity. I really didn't find good options at the first two, and way too many options at the third I ended up getting a belly band, a pair of slacks, and a pair of shorts. I'm really not showing too much right now, so that should last me a while. But I do really love Target's maternity section. I feel like they have pretty good options for not too much money.
Old Navy has great basics and so does Gap. Sizing is a little tricky. Some run normal and some are huge it seems like. So if you're ordering online, pay attention to reviews. Also there's always cute shorts, maxis, dresses, skirts and tops on Zulily. Again read the sizing my very reasonable. I want to check out Motherhood Maternity when I can get to the town over. I hear they are great as well.
I've still been able to fit into non maternity dresses. The no waistband is awesome. So you may not necessarily need actual maternity yet and can shop at your regular go to stores.
Dresses are my best friend, they're so comfortable and not restrictive
Target and Motherhood Maternity have great full panel shorts and a lot of cute shirts with cinched waists and ones with cinching along the sides that grows with you. I bought full panel maternity leggings at Motherhood Maternity, and they are amazing!! So comfy
I was actually going to make my own post about this but I'll put it here - Mandee and Joyce Leslie have TONS of cotton pencil skirts for $10-$15. Instead of wearing them at my normal waist, because of the seam looking weird with my bump, I pull them up to right under my bra and they still hit just above the knee. I tuck in a tank so the skirt looks high-waisted, or you can wear a blousy shirt; there are tons of ways to style them. I'm still buying medium skirts, and they are PERFECT for growing bumps! They look great particularly with cropped sweaters/jackets/blazers. They also have TONS of inexpensive maxi skirts and sundresses - I bought an entire 'maternity' wardrobe in normal sizes at such low prices! If I stretch out the skirts, I'll just out them in a maternity bin for the next pregnancy. #mytwocents
I've been buying from zulily and a lot from gap/old navy. They have great sales. Target is very limited- But a lot at old navy can carry over from summer to fall.... Ps their linen pants are the best I have in four colors!
Okay ladies, pre preg jeans needed an elastic band today and i'm not rocking that look so i went out to try on maternity pants. All of them, XS included, were too big in the thighs and butt and the tummy..and while i'm smallish i'm not that small. I have a large booty! So maybe Target, kohl's, etc won't work for me. Which brands should i be looking at (online)?
I lived in maxi dresses when I was pregnant with DD. She was a July baby so it was just perfect. I got the majority of my maxi dresses from Marshalls/TJ Maxx. As for maternity clothes in general, I bought a lot of used ones from resale and consignment shops. I also did get a few on sale at Macy's and Target.

Since you are small, try ASOS or H&M. I found that Target, Motherhood, Kohls were too big on me. ASOS is true to size on most where H&M I had to go up a size.

Goodwill all the way! I got 5 pairs of pants and two shirts for 35 bucks! I know it was a stroke of luck but you may want to give it a try. I even got some cute work stuff.
@CMDD I've been having a similar problem and I'm not actually super tiny! I am 5'3'' and wore a size 2 before pregnancy and all the XS stuff at Gap was too big. I still bought a few things because they were super cheap. I know there are a lot of women smaller than me so it seems odd that their clothing would be so large. I have heard good things about ASOS. I also got some jeans at h&m that fit fairly well! Jcrew has maternity stuff online as well.
I cried today because my leggings waistline hit me mid bump and I was miserable ( I'm not huge but that feeling was driving me bonkers). I slipped in to destination maternity and found some leggings and Jean shorts that I LOVE. And this shirt. Which pretty much sums up my needs right now. Just out of first trimester and can't WAIT to get some highlights in this bitch. I feel like a troll!
Check out Pink Blush Maternity. They have a ton of dresses and skirts. Pretty reasonable prices too!
I got the PRETTIEST dresses from Pink Blush. The mint one with the little pink flowers and a long, green one with an empire waist. Both of them are also appropriate for post-pregnancy too.

@AJo32 thanks for sharing this website, I had never heard of it before!
@groovylocks empire waist dresses are my absolute favorite right now!
I did motherhood maternity and destination maternity... both had some good clearance stuff in store. And I went to target for workout clothes. I'm wearing pre-pregnacy maxi dresses when I'm not at work, but need pants (not leggings unfortunately) for work! Full panel is the only way to go for me comfort-wise... destination maternity stuff seemed to run a bit small for me, but maybe I was just feeling sausage-y. And the pants they have either come in S/M/L or inches (I got some 29s... been a while since I've fit into my 26's... pre-pregnancy weight gain, alas)
I went to Ross today and they had a small maternity rack by the bathing suits. I was surprised I stumbled upon. Not a huge selection but they had your basics for cheap!
My style has always been pretty flowy, so most of my blouses will last me through a couple more months without stretching. A new mom friend of mine showed me a pants trick with a rubber band where you loop it through the hole and around the button and it keeps it secure when you can't button them anymore, so that will give me a few more weeks. I did go ahead and buy one pair of maternity jeans and a pair of shorts too. I have also been buying longer flowy dresses. I found a skirt and two dresses that I really liked at Dress Barn.
I still have no visible bump but am definitely thicker but it still seems to early for full panels. The selection within an hour of me is limited and the drive for an exclusive maternity store that doesn't have tall clothing (I'm 5'10" and all legs)...seems like a waste.
I went to kohls (mine literally had 1 small rack of maternity clothes in the baby section--all full panel) but I did buy some regular athletic shorts that have a yoga style waist band (all stretchy material versus non-stretchy material with elastic inside).
I also bought some linen shorts that have a really stretchy waist band at JCPenny (juniors section) all the waist bands between the small-large shorts appeared to be the same size (probably 22-24 inches when the elastic is at rest) so I sized up and should have lots of room to grow. My lower rise jeans with decent stretch are still fine. Loving dresses that have a bodice that ends at the waist so the flare covers my thicker tummy...that still feels more like bloat than baby bump!
Hey Ladies! If any of you live in the Philly area, you should totally check out Impact Thrift Stores! They have three locations around Philly & I was in the area having lunch with my mom & sis & they wanted to go in & check the place out. Like goodwill & other stores, they have some days where stuff is on sale, red tag-15% off, green tag-25% off, that sort of thing. But yesterday they were having a store wide 25% off & the place was huge, so they have a ridiculous selection of maternity clothes. I was grumpy that I had already bought shorts! But I got a pair of Motherhood cords for the winter, a nice blouse & dressier top, both Motherhood & an Ohmama! shortsleeve top (it's a little big so I'll have to wear a tank under, but it was 2.50!) Everything was $15! I'll definitely try to check it out again in the fall.
Re: Maternity clothes
I just ordered a few basics from Old Navy including a couple pairs of jeans. They are super comfy and fit well and great prices.
