Breast augmentation question

In November I had a breast augmentation. I am currently pregnant with #4. I asked my surgeon during my pre op if I was to get pregnant again, would it affect my pregnancy at all. He assured me no. My question is, are there any other moms out there that had a breast augmentation and was able to breastfeed and not have any issues? I don't have sore breasts, but I can't remember if I did or didn't with my last 2. I thought maybe they aren't sore since they're still a little numb. Any moms have any advice?

Re: Breast augmentation question

  • I'm a first time mom to be and am curious about this as well! Mine were done several years ago, and the doc also assured me I would be ok if ever I had a baby. I'm a little sore, but not much. Any advice would be great! My main concern is breast feeding. I will also ask my doc when I see her Wednesday, but wanted to know if anyone has first hand experience! Thanks!

  • My best friend was able to breastfeed both of her children with no problem after her breast augmentation.
  • I got breast implants about 5 years ago. I was able to nurse my daughter for 4 months but I didn't produce much and had to supplement.. Not sure if it was from the implants...I also tried pumping and at one point pumped scar tissue and blood. I honestly think my biggest hurdle was due to being induced. My milk wasn't in and the nurses kept pushing me to let my newborn latch. My DD nursed me raw since it took 4 days for milk to finally come in. When my milk finally came in, I was so scabbed and in pain I had to switch to formula for a few days. Horrible experience.
I'm pregnant with #2 and will do my best to nurse again and not let the nurses tell me how to nurse.

Having breast implants doesn't usually cause nursing issues.

I had scabbing on one nipple too. I think this pregnancy that I will use nipple shields bc the scabbing was blocking my milk ducts. :(

Breastfeeding is not easy. The most difficult thing to do is get the latch right and it's even harder with Aug breasts but it can be done. you have to learn how to hold ur breast to put it in the baby's mouth. I spent a lot of time researching and watching youtube videos on breastfeeding because I was determined to do it better this time around.

We need to feed baby immediately after delivery with the colostrum that comes out of your breasts. Colostrum is what comes out and leaks before you even have your baby (near the end of your pregnancy). It's very nutritious for baby. He needs it very much. Also, the baby suckling on your breasts stimulates milk production (learned that from the LC).

I had my breasts augmented 7 years ago and I had no issues breastfeeding but I caved in and went to pumping about 1.5 weeks after delivery. we had family in town and my dh demanded that I let them help with feeding. I regret that decision and it affected my supply and went to see a lactation consultant thereafter.

I applaud any woman who bf's bc it's not easy and it does hurt.
  • I think this depends on how the surgery is performed. There are different ways to do that.
    Thank God for Raid.
