In November I had a breast augmentation. I am currently pregnant with #4. I asked my surgeon during my pre op if I was to get pregnant again, would it affect my pregnancy at all. He assured me no. My question is, are there any other moms out there that had a breast augmentation and was able to breastfeed and not have any issues? I don't have sore breasts, but I can't remember if I did or didn't with my last 2. I thought maybe they aren't sore since they're still a little numb. Any moms have any advice?
Re: Breast augmentation question
I'm pregnant with #2 and will do my best to nurse again and not let the nurses tell me how to nurse.
Having breast implants doesn't usually cause nursing issues.
Breastfeeding is not easy. The most difficult thing to do is get the latch right and it's even harder with Aug breasts but it can be done. you have to learn how to hold ur breast to put it in the baby's mouth. I spent a lot of time researching and watching youtube videos on breastfeeding because I was determined to do it better this time around.
We need to feed baby immediately after delivery with the colostrum that comes out of your breasts. Colostrum is what comes out and leaks before you even have your baby (near the end of your pregnancy). It's very nutritious for baby. He needs it very much. Also, the baby suckling on your breasts stimulates milk production (learned that from the LC).
I had my breasts augmented 7 years ago and I had no issues breastfeeding but I caved in and went to pumping about 1.5 weeks after delivery. we had family in town and my dh demanded that I let them help with feeding. I regret that decision and it affected my supply and went to see a lactation consultant thereafter.
I applaud any woman who bf's bc it's not easy and it does hurt.
