at my first appointment my dr only wanted me to gain 25lbs (with my last I gained 40!) so I was super nervous and up until 20 weeks I gained 10lbs (which she didn't seem to care much) I told her I was trying to stay on track with the weight and I've been tracking calories for sodium purposes and I can only eat 1700 a day. She said I could eat more. Low & behold I upped it to right under 2000 & gained another 9lbs (in 4 weeks) she made my weight gain a HUGE deal at my 24 week check up, I'm almost 26 1/2 weeks now & I just feel like I can't enjoy my pregnancy because of the fact she made a big deal about it & now all I can think about is not gaining weight plus I'm retaining so much freaking water that Lol Am I over exaggerating? Should I be that meticulous with calories? Or is this preggo paranoia? Thanks for letting me vent.. It helps just getting it out there! Lol
Re: Calories/weight gain/venting *sigh*
I understand where you are coming from but just try to enjoy your pregnancy. If you're taking care of yourself then you're doing a great job!
I know I'd be really upset, too, if I was being so meticulous with my intake and my doctor gave me a hard time. I think some of us will just gain more and some will gain less. Our bodies do what they want! Try to enjoy and not stress out too much over weight.
My Dr said to just think "does the baby need this or not" before I eat it. And that's it. He said he wants me to enjoy my pregnancy, because stressing over food intake isn't any better for baby, and nobody can live on salad alone. And he said bacon is ok lol.
Chin up and don't let one persons opinion get you down!
As PPs have said, most of what I've read and the doctor/midwives have told me is to just make sure you're eating a variety of healthy foods and getting some exercise and not to focus on the weight gain, as that will vary by person pretty widely. If you feel you're eating good food and not indulging all the time (occasional treats are fine!) and staying active then you shouldn't have anything to worry about.
I'm feeling yucky bc I gained 7 of those pounds within the past 3w, and I'm finally out of my normal clothes. But I guess what do I expect?!
Stay healthy lovelies.
