Doctor drama- overreaction or gut feeling?

So, my OB was my GYN for about 2 years before I got pregnant and I didn't have any complaints. However, since I got pregnant I found her practice to be lacking in communication. Long story short - I have to ask a lot of questions to get info on when tests should be done, when to schedule ultrasounds, they're not on the ball with things. I'd written this off as me being too on top of things, so maybe I was beating them to the punch. However, on my last appt I asked the doc about a glucose test because no one has mentioned it yet. Doc then tells me that they wrote an order for two months ago, when I explained I've never seen it she said "that's crazy your 31 weeks, Brenda". Come to find out doctor had no idea who I was – my name is not Brenda, I am 23 weeks and no one ever gave me an order for a glucose test! I left horrified. Pretty sure it's time to start the new doc hunt.

No no no no no... Do yourself a favor and get a new doc. That's. Not. Right. She could be great doc, who knows, but she's not someone you feel you can trust and someone you feel safe with which is an absolute MUST at this time in your life. Start getting some recommendations from mom friends! I'm not sure where you are located, if you're anywhere near Boston I can help!

  • Good! Glad to hear it!
  • She obviously had someone else's chart. That's scary!!!
  • My OB asked me if I had started taking my antibiotics yet. I had no idea what she was talking about. She told me I had a uti. Need to me since I hadn't seen her since my previous appt 4 weeks prior. Thought that was a bit ridiculous of a turn around time for a prescription. Turns out she had the wrong chart. We were already changing doctors because of insurance, but if not I definitely would have changed anyway(there were plenty of other issues with this doctor not just this one mistake). What your doctor said was borderline HIPAA violation.
  • At my last ultrasound the MFM doc came in out of nowhere while I was being scanned, and started telling me all of this information about the baby. I could tell by what he was saying that it was all information that hadn't been determined yet, because I was literally still in the middle of being scanned. Finally I said, "are you sure you have the right patient? because my scan just started." He said, "oh is your last name _____?" No, it's not. He had the wrong patient. Turns out the tech transferred the patient before me into another room and never told the doctor. I gave him a pass. It was an honest mistake and he was super apologetic, plus a really great doctor.

If it was a regular OB appointment and the doctor clearly had the wrong chart (like yours did), I would be pissed.
  • You are surely over reacting, I mean common who's doctor actually gets their name right let alone how far along they are in their pregnancy?? ***eye rolling*** (being very sarcastic, find a new doc asap)
