July 2015 Moms

First Time Mom question

My doctor thinks I am going to go later than my due date.

Did any of you first time Moms go late? I have heard it is common but I am SOOO uncomfortable. Hoping for a little surprise appearance!

Re: First Time Mom question

  • I would just say to prepare yourself to go super late, so if he/she arrives earlier than that, it will be a nice surprise ;)

  • I am "due" July 28, so I am just not planning on her being here until August. I am currently keeping a list of things to keep me busy during the month of July so that I don't go too crazy waiting for her arrival!
  • It's very common for FTM to go after the due date.  Baby calls the shots.

  • It's my due date today and I went to the doctor and I literally have nothing going on lol. No dilation and my cervix is still really high with no thinning. He doesn't think I will progress much from now to 41 weeks, the baby will just get bigger, so I am being induced on Sunday! I am also a FTM, so yes definately going past my due date.
  • Went to 41weeks with my first. It's common and due dates are estimates anyway.

  • I'm passed mine
  • I was 40+6 with my first. My due date is tomorrow, and I haven't shown any signs with this one.
  • With my first I went 10 days past my due date. My labor did start on its own though. This time I'm about 2cm and I'm due on the 8th.

I was induced at 39 weeks with my first and tomorrow is my due date with this one. Doctor thinks I won't make it to my appointment Wednesday but I have a feeling I will and be past 41 weeks before delivery.

  • FTM here, but my midwife said to plan on going to 41 weeks as that seems to be the most common among her patients.

  • That's a great idea @WanderingHeart
I think I'm actually going to make a list right now, seeing as how almost everything is ready for the baby. I'll go stir crazy just waiting since I'm not due until the 31st
  • My first was 3 days late. It seems silly now but I bawled my eyes out on my due date because after all the anticipation of THAT date, she didn't arrive. :-P

  • FTM due the 20th but just in case my OB set an appointment for induction on the 27 th
  • My OB won't induce unless there's dilation. Or it's 41 week mark. Is that normal? I see a lot of women with scheduled inductions and I just assume they are dilated already.

Same here @WanderingHeart. "Due" July 28! That's why I'm hoping to keep working as long as I can... Although the swelling in my feet and ankles just started this week... Ugh! Being on modified duty has me sitting most of the shift but I do try and walk some at least every hour. Anyways, good luck keeping busy!

    Good question @mirrenrue

@mirrenrue My OB said you have to be "favorable" to induce (with drugs like pitocin) or it can be a really long uncomfortable process. I think he means you should have started to dilate and efface on your own, otherwise they have to use things to soften your cervix etc before they can worry about bringing on contractions.
I'm probably saying it wrong but it made sense when he explained it to me haha!

My OB scheduled my induction at 41 weeks I am dilated 1cm but induction can definitely happen if there isn't dilation. Just a few more interventions the nurse and doctor would need to do in addition to pitocin
  • I think I read that something like 80%-90% of all FTM deliver closer to 41 weeks. My midwives will let me go until 42 weeks. I just tell people that the baby will be here sometime in July or early August. My estimated due date is July 28th
