Help with spelling our baby girls name!

We loved the name Wyatt since day one that was the name for us. We found out yesterday we are expecting a girl, but the only name we have settled on was Wyatt (for a boy of course). Now we think it would be a cute girl name but don't know if we should change the spelling?? Mother in law does not like it says we shouldn't put our child through that -_-
Opinions please !!

Re: Help with spelling our baby girls name!

  • Thanks for your opinion but you don't have to be rude about it. A simple No I feel as though the name Wyatt is better suited for a boy than girl would have been fine ect. You may not notice but for me it seems as though you are bashing the idea and that is not cool. Respect some people's decisions/questions and try to answer them nicely. Thanks.
  • Your MIL is correct, Wyatt is bad enough for a girl please don't try to make it anymore U-Neek by changing the spelling.

And Ashton Kutcher named his girl Wyatt so its not even original.

  • Well, you did ask for opinions, which @sunrise135 gave you. She was blunt, yes, but I don't think she was being rude.
Also, I tend to agree with what she said. And honestly, wouldn't you want to hear these types of opinions now before you name your child that and perhaps regret naming her that?
Do you have any friends, even on Facebook, that have a more unique name or have name that was gender switched? You could message them and ask how they felt growing up with such a different name. I have several friends who have only semi different names and they all hated it while growing up. They still get annoyed in work settings when people cannot pronounce or even type their name correctly.
Maybe you should table the idea for awhile and concentrate on girls names more. Go buy a pink or purple onesie, eat a pink cupcake, get in the mindset of having a girl and not a boy to try and help you along.

  • And why haven't you considered more than one name? There was a 50/50 chance you were having a girl, so you would need "girl" names.

  • I completely forgot they named their daughter that! We decided not to go with the name anyways lol
  • I looked but could not find a baby name board. Unless I passed it up.
  • You were super adamant about it, so much that you wanted strangers opinions to help you support it for your MIL, and you changed your mind within an hour?

Just so you know if you think the first comment was rude, The BMB is brutally honest. It's under specialty.

  • We weren't adamant about the name I said it was the ONLY name we agreed on. For some reason any girl names we each came up with we couldn't decide on together so we went back to this name. However I think we would prefer to save it for further boy and think we found a girl name we both like. Thanks though guys for the help/opinions !
  • Definitely agree with the others - time to come up with a girl name. Save this one for later if you're not OAD.

  • I love that name for a girl! Try and pair it with a feminine middle name and its perfect.
  • I don't get why people are being so rude!! My friend named their daughter Wyatt and she is 14 almost 15 months old. Just pair it with a more feminine middle name :) My best friends brother named their daughter Charllotte. They had the name picked out before Prince William and Princess Kate announced their daughters name... If you like it then own it! Don't worry about what others think :)

Should you worry about what your child will think in the future of their name and their parents trying to be "trendy" or misogynistic? I feel if you would give a girl a boy's name but would never give a boy a girl's name (And I mean traditional female names, not masculine names that have been taken over by girls), then you are being misogynistic. (Yes, there are way worse forms, but that doesn't make it ok to have the double standard).

  • I am having a girl too!! My mother gave me advice that I really loved... If you can see it professionally at the top of a resume than it is a good name. Good luck!

Unfortunately you don't get to dictate the content or delivery of any reactions on this forum. That's the point of discussion & differing opinions.

I also agree that Wyatt would not suite a female by any stretch of the imagination. You could go ahead, but that is a lot of unnecessary hardship on your daughter, don't you think?

Why not Wynona? If you like the sound of Wyatt it is pretty close & feminine.

Wilhelmina is also got that W sound that is similar.

To be honest, it is hard to be respectful when a parents' likes/dislikes & desires for a name appear to carry more weight than the life long issues that their child might face with their name. It's not just about what you like. This is someone's lifelong identity.

So I understand loving a name. I get that & sometimes life throws you some interesting curve balls. It turns out that the name you really like doesn't really work. C'est la vie, man.

Also, if you ask for thoughts & opinions then it's poor form to complain when you actually get them.

If your friend jumped off a bridge, would you automatically think that's a good idea too?

And Charlotte was extremely common even before the new royal baby so I don't think your best friends brother should really be surprised if there are lots of other baby Charlotte's in this world...
  • She didn't ask for opinions on the actual name if you people read before jumping down others throats. She said they thought it was cute for a girl and asked about spelling. That said, my opinion is- I don't see another way to spell it that would make sense so would just keep it Wyatt. Less confusing. But I see you said you found another girl name to so best of luck! Don't let people's non-solicited opinions change your mind though if you thought it was cute for a girl prior!
  • If you post something on a forum, you're going to get opinions, whether you want them or not.  Put on the big girl panties and deal.

Wyatt is a terrible name for a girl, and there is no alternative spelling that will make it better.
