My baby boy was 14oz when they measured.. His head also measured at 22 weeks and the rest of his body measured 20w5d which was exactly what it should have been.. I'm having a baby T-Rex..
The doctor said my LO was about three quarters of a pound, which would be 12 oz., when we were discussing the a/s measurements (mine was at 20w exactly).
With my first they were extremely concerned about his weight and size by 36 weeks he was already measuring at 40+weeks. My doc talked to me and said that he was to big to deliver and since they were scared I'd go into labour naturally they took him early at 38weeks (which in my OB office they consider full term anyway) at that point they figured he'd be close to 11lbs he was 8lbs when he was born. So to get to the point, I'd only be concerned if your doc is concerned. And that as PP said they usually say +/- either way.
This is why they do a daring scan early - babies are more consistently the same size in the early weeks than they are later on. If we all had new dating scans at our AS, we would likely have a large number of people move out of November. That's just how it goes and is no cause for concern.
The Bump app gives a range of 12.7-20.8oz for 22 weeks, which is a pretty big range. So your baby's measurement seems perfectly normal. Also, your OB would let you know if she was worried about the size at all. If all the measurements looked good, then everything is fine.
I'm 19/5 and my boy is fairly big. I go for my 20wU on Monday. He's so big I can physically see him in my belly. It's crazy! And movement so strong it will stop me in my tracks sometimes. With my DS I could never see him in my belly until my dr broke my water..
With my DD I had an ultra sound a week before I had her and they said she was measuring at 8lbs and when she was born she was 6lbs 11oz so I just take them as estimates. I just had my 20 week ultra sound with my twins and they were each 11oz which the doctor said was normal range.
There's a pretty big range of normal. And it also depends on who is measuring and how they measured. At this stage there is no need to worry about the size of your baby. Even in the end ultrasounds are not exact science. They are always plus or minus some. Don't read too far into it.
At 18 weeks 6 days, we had our anatomy scan and baby weighed 11 oz. I thought that seemed big, and when I saw my OB the next week, she commented that baby was in the 87th percentile. I asked if that would adjust my due date at all. She said they typically don't adjust due date unless you're measuring in the 90th or 95th percentile. She wasn't worried and said we'll just see how it continues going - it can change a lot week to week.
I guess I win the prize (not so sure it's a prize!). Just had my A/S at 20W5D and baby boy is measuring 1 lb 1 oz. Doc isn't too worried. Like PP, he said growth spurts happen at diff times for diff babies, and they will just keep an eye on it. I'm still a bit terrified though!
I wrote this ages ago on a similar thread... Gonna copy paste it as it may make you feel a bit better and I'm too lazy to write it again lol.
"Weighing babies inside the womb, especially before the last few weeks, is a huuuuuge annoyance to me. it's an educated guess at best, in relation to Femur length/ head circumference and abdominal circumference. They stick these measurements in to their programme and it will come up with this rough and generalised weight. My best friend was told her son was small the entire time. They even spoke about early induction as they weren't sure if he was putting on enough weight. They guessed he was 5-6lbs. HE WAS 10lbs2!!!! And the same thing has happened to a lot of people I know, thinking they have small babies and they're huge, or thinking they're huge and they're tiny!!!
It's also a lot like lining up 5 women who weigh the same weight. They probably won't look like they weigh the same because of other factors, such as height, metabolism and proportions."
Babies grow at different rates so your girly may just be growing more quickly now and then she will slow down. :-)
Re: Big baby?
I'm blaming that dumb question on my prego brain!
