Re: Wendesday Check in

  • Trimester/week: 1/4 weeks today!

What's new with baby (size, development): Today Poppyseed's node is developing which will be his or her brain and spinal cords. All the folic acid this week!

Whats something new you are doing to get ready for baby: DH and I discussed nursery colours :)

Rant/rave/symptoms: my left nipple is killing me. Other than that it's all cramps, headaches and weeing.

Questions for the Group: does anyone know if paint fumes are bad for pregnant women? I vaguely remember something from the 90s about that but it might have changed.

GTKY: How did your meet your other half? We met at a sport club mixer while I was doing my MSc and he was doing his PhD. It was in a Frankenstien themed pub :)

What's new with baby (size, development): Developing a brain, arms and legs

Whats something new you are doing to get ready for baby: While DH was away this weekend I may have bought some baby stuff (used and over 50% off!) and hid it from him in the loft.  He doesn't go in the loft bc he is afraid of spiders.  He says spend no money.. I haven't had a sip of alcohol in 4 weeks so I spent my former personal drinking allowance budget on: Moses basket with all bits and rocker, red overalls and onesie, baby converse, Vtec first steps walker, 3 Swaddling blankets, and an awesome rocking dinosaur... All for £51

    Rant/rave/symptoms: nothing killing me

    Questions for the Group:

GTKY: How did your meet your other half? I was doing my first PhD and he was doing his "study abroad year" with research in my best friends lab.  I took him home twice then he basically moved into my house.  3years of living in different countries we were getting married and I was moving to England.  This month will be our 4 year wedding anniversary so I have been with DH for over 7 years now

  • Trimester/week: 1/4w2d

What's new with baby (size, development): Poppyseed is beginning to develop his/her central nervous system, muscles, and bones.

Whats something new you are doing to get ready for baby: I make my own work schedule (home visits) so I am rearranging my schedule for late summer/early fall to allow more time for rest and less stressful days.

Rant/rave/symptoms: I'm proud of myself for drinking 70 oz of water yesterday. I'm hoping to maintain that type of water intake.

Questions for the Group: Does anyone know at what point women typically need new bras or pants? I imagine it varies for everyone but I figured I'd ask. We are leaving the country for 10 days on week 7 and I would hate for something not to fit halfway through the trip! I'm thinking of bra shopping the day before for a comfortable one just in case and maybe grabbing one of those Belly Band things in the off chance my bloat won't let my jeans button!

GTKY: How did your meet your other half? We met through mutual friends at a bar. He was with the boyfriend of an acquaintance of mine. I noticed he was the only single one in the group and was cute so I sat next to him. He was shy and we didn't chat much but he Facebook messaged me for my phone number a few days later. We proceeded to go on four dates in one week and have been inseparable ever since! :)
  • @KristieA You need to stay far away from lead paint. In terms of household wall paint, it is ideal to not be around it but relatively safe I think. If your DH can paint instead, that's ideal. If you must do it, then I would wear a mask. Some paint companies sell "low fume" (or something along those lines). My neighbor used a low fume wall paint a few months ago as she has an infant in the house.
  • @Kristin712 thanks for the info. If I leave it for my husband to do it will never get done. I'll investigate low fume paint vs a painter :)

Guess I'll follow the rules and report here (sorry about that).

    Trimester/week: 1/4

What's new with baby (size, development): poppyseed

Whats something new you are doing to get ready for baby:  Freaking out - aaaand starting to look for bigger double strollers and figuring out if our car will fit 3 car seats (My second will be 1 on Saturday so SURPRISE!!)

Rant/rave/symptoms: Woke up with awful nausea.  It's starting way earlier than my others.  Oh and lots of fun bloating.

Questions for the Group: YES!  Is there anyone here who have had back to back pregnancies - like I'm talking within a year of each other?  I'm kind of freaking about the whole 2 under 2 thing.  Like a year ago today was my due date with my second son (he went 3 days over).  We just got my son sleeping through the night.  And I'm working to wean him within the next week or so (down to nursing once a day).  Any advice about that age gap?  Freak out with me?

GTKY: How did your meet your other half? He stalked me on MySpace.

Questions for the Group: none yet

GTKY: How did your meet your other half? I moved into a new apartment and he was the neighbour in the one below.

  • Trimester/week: 1/4

What's new with baby (size, development): Poppyseed

Whats something new you are doing to get ready for baby: DH and I made a trip to Barnes and Noble last night to get books. He got The Expectant Father and I, of course got What to Expect. I refused to buy anything like this until after we had a BFP.

Rant/rave/symptoms: Cramping seems to be gone today. Bloated.. I keep randomly unbuttoning my pants. This fall Ill go back to scrubs so my belly can flop out.

Questions for the Group: Nadda today.

GTKY: How did your meet your other half? We met through a friend. We dated on and off for 5 years. Mostly on, but we were young and in college. We got married 2 years ago.

What's new with baby (size, development): yay! A whole new week!

Whats something new you are doing to get ready for baby: nothing new today.

    Rant/rave/symptoms: tired! So tired!

    Questions for the Group:
    Nothing I can think of
GTKY: How did your meet your other half?
We met in college. My best friend lives next door and dragged me over to his room because she wanted to introduce me to a nice guy lol. We have been inseparable ever since. We have been together 10 years and married for 4.
  • @skryhmim 3 car seats?! (even 2 full and one booster) is going to be a challenge.   One of my aunts had triplets and it was always a hassle to make things that should be simple to work.  I have horrible childhood memories of being crammed in the middle seat between two car seats in my families cars- no way you could have fit another car seat!  Good luck with your quest!

  • Trimester / week:  1 / 2w1d

What's new with baby (size, development):  Poppyseed-ish!

What's something new you are doing to get ready for baby:  Nothing yet -- just excited that we told my parents, my siblings, and DH's sister!  We couldn't keep the excitement in!

Rant/rave/symptoms:  Just feeling a little bloated so far.  Oh, and even though I'm only 2 weeks pregnant, all of my friends are going to know what's up IMMEDIATELY.  Like, I would be surprised if they didn't figure it out this week... since we are big craft beer drinkers!

Questions for the Group:  Nothing yet!

GTKY: How did you meet your other half?:  I was working at a tavern, and he sat down next to me after my shift one afternoon.  We starting chatting / witty banter and the rest is history.  So yep, we met at a bar.
