I had an appt. to get a massage today but when I told them I was 9 weeks along they said I couldn't have one because I'm in my first trimester. So, I'm having a facial instead. I'm going to tell them not to do a peel or anything with lots of chemicals but anything else you think I should know? Facials are ok if the aesthetician knows and doesn't use anything harsh, right?

I would think it would be fine. I would just mention (in case he/she doesn't know) that your skin is likely more sensitive.
Also, why wouldn't they let you get a massage? There's no issue with getting massages in first tri.
Yea I didn't think so either! I'm thinking its a liability thing. If someone miscarried, they probably worry that someone will try to blame it on the massage or something. Who knows? It's Bliss so they are a big company.

That's crazy. I had a few and they definitely knew I was pregnant, but they definitely did give me a prenatal massage.
I do highly recommend prenatal massages at the end when you're tired, sore and feel like crap. So awesome.
Oh - trust me. I'm planning on having many! I was so looking forward to my massage today so I'm bummed! I probably do need a facial because my chin has broken out so much but I'm also so embarrassed about it that I don't want the facialist to see it without makeup under those bright lights- ugh. I mean I definitely get a couple pimples around that time of the month generally but nothing like this! And they are all on my chin! Like 6 big pimples!

Do you own a Clarisonic? I highly recommend getting one!
I work in a spa as an aesthetician and facials are perfectly fine! It's still good to let your aesthetician know your pregnant since there a certain machines that are not safe for pregnancy. Our massage therapist do not do massages during the first trimester and it's exactly because of liability. Most reputable spas use that as a rule of thumb, but we have taken doctors notes for permission.
Haha it depends on how they are feeding your skin the oxygen. Different skin care brands have different protocols so I'm not sure what kind of facial you might be getting. Some machines create a current in the skin that is not recommended during pregnancy. Your aesthetician will let you know which facials will be best for you at this time, but that's why it's always a good idea to give them a heads up
Turns out the oxygen facial wasn't best for me because it included a chemical peel and a treatment with Vitamin A. So she did something that was safer for me. Hoping this will help clear up my skin!

Many day spas and beauty places will not massage in the first trimester...the place I work for is one of them...it just protection for the business really you 100% can have a massage in the 1st trimester from a place which will allow it
And just to add to my previous post I do a lot of facials on pregnant women at work with skin concerns...unfortunately most of the time crazy hormones have to come good on their own but a strict skincare routine can definitely make things better
There are many pressure points in the body that could relate to being pregnant and can trigger inducement. Always tell them you're pregnant and usually they can alter the treatment.

I'm assuming an oxygen facial will be ok since its oxygen, right? I mean - we breathe it lol.
