Baby wipe warmer question

Any mom's use them before?
How sanitary are they?
And if the wipes warm, are they considered sanitary after they get cold again?
I know it ssounds kinda dumb.. bare with me.

Re: Baby wipe warmer question

  • I've never used one. My mom insisted that it was cruel to use a cold wipe on my DD but she never seemed bothered by it. I'm not going to get one this time either.

  • Lol so crazy you mention this. I bought one, but I ended up taking it back yesterday. I MAY go buy another one, but it's summertime. She might appreciate a cool wipe right about now lol

I don't know about sanitary issues but DH felt bad for using cold wipes when DS1 was real little so he bought one. We only used it for a couple of months and he's insisted we use it again while DS2 is little.

  • We never used one. When you're away from home they won't be warm. I don't know about sanity issues, but that is a very good question. I did hear that they can get dried out quickly.

  • I am only going to use the warmer for nighttime changes.  My thought is that a cold wipe might rouse the baby instead of getting him back to sleep.  Otherwise, I do not intend to use the warmer.

Don't do it. Yes, baby might be happier at first, but then you are doing your first diaper change out in public with regular old cold wipes and she'll freak! They get used to cool wipes, and it doesn't end up being traumatic.
  • No need to use one.
  • All of my mom friends have put this into the "don't get it it's a waste of money" category. :)
  • Never used one with DD. She never cried or fussed when I used a cold wipe. I think it's one of those mommy guilt items where the manufacturer tried to make you feel like a bad mom for using a cold wipe. :) we thought it was useless since we wouldn't be warming them when out and about anyway. No sense getting them used to it.

A couple of years ago (after our DD was born so it didn't impact our decision), I read some stories about warmers that actually warmed them too much and babies were burned. I even remember one recall where the warmer caught on fire in the nursery. One less thing to worry about.
  • I have no science backing me up here, but my thought is a warm & moist environment for wipes is asking for trouble...
  • Nah. You won't always be able to use a warm wipe on them and if they are used to the warm wipes they throw a fit if a cold wipe has to touch them. Plus like PP said, the wipes dry out faster when they are in a warmer.

  • Baby is going to be pissed that you're messing with her clothes and diaper anyways... a cool wipe isn't going to make much of a difference.

  • Waste of money. Had one with our first and barely used it.

  • We ended up buying one and using it mainly at night with DS1. He did not like cold wipes when getting changed during the middle of the night. So, we'll probably be using it again with DS2 this time.

  • I had one, thought about it for a few weeks, and decided to return it this past weekend. It's not worth it, especially since it's summer time. Even with the winter coming in a few months, I don't see a need for it either unless your house is kept at a very low temperature. If that's the case, you can always hold the wipe in your hand for a few seconds, and that'll warm it up a bit!

This is exactly what my mom recommended we do. Warm wipes help them fall back asleep faster at night.

I wouldn't bet on it. Babies are already going to be jostled from the diaper change itself. My DD would wake up and cry for feedings and I would change her diaper first and then feed so the wipe temp didn't matter much.

Your baby, your choice but I honestly don't know anyone that found them helpful. Of the people I know that bought one, they either returned it or it sat unused.
