February 2016 Moms

STM: baby weight?

First off, hi! I'm new to the board. I'm an S13 mama due Feb 22. I'm going to try to be around, but originally left after the mass exodus a while ago.

Any second time (or above) moms here worried about weight gain after not losing the baby weight last time?

I'm 20lbs over my pre preg weight last time (which was overweight to begin with) and it's stressing me out. I didn't really eat bad the first time, but definitely could've done better, especially towards the end.

Anyone want to commiserate, share advice, etc?

  • I plan to just watch what I eat this time more, I didn't actually gain while pregnant I gained it all during her first 6 months. I just didn't watch what I ate and dh and I ate out a lot!
After this baby I have a wedding to be in so I plan on kicking my butt into shape

@vitaluna: Hey!!!  :-h Nice to see another S13 mama around here. :)@ajboocher and the former lmtoo are here as well! Yay!

I didn't lose all of my baby weight and I'm definitely worried about it. :/ As soon as the first tri crappy MS is over, I plan to be working out almost every day to keep it under control. I hope it doesn't make it harder to lose it after baby 2 comes.

  • I am for sure! I never gained a lot while pregnant with my last two, but I didn't know how to eat after cause my body had changed so much. I'm 50lbs heavier than before I had any kids and am not thrilled about putting on any weight. I definitely have some to lose, and usually do while pregnant (just from morning sickness). I'm just reminding myself that I don't have to eat 24/7 and that this is my last baby so maybe I'll be more motivated to work out after.

  • I'm in the same boat... About 15 lbs. from my first that I never lost from my first pregnancy- 15 months ago. So, hoping to work out running and using 21 day fix DVDs to stay active. I really need to watch what I eat this time! I went overboard last pregnancy. Used it as an excuse to splurge. I'm sti very early, but feel good so far!

  • :waves: at my fellow S13ers! @HBirdie, what kind of exercise plan are you hoping to do? I had just started a HIIT app about a month before this, but probably won't stick with it :/

I actually ended up gaining about 10lbs when DD was around 14+ months. I think less nursing and more stress at work just did me in. Ugh, I'm not looking forward to stepping on the scale every appt.

Both of these. I think my mindset is different this time and I'm trying to avoid the "but baby needs to eat!" excuse. Eat if I'm hungry, don't if I'm not.

This also will be our last LO, so I'm hoping that knowing how I feel now, overweight and having struggled to lose, that I will be more mindful of my diet/activity after this one is born.

  • Well with my last pregnancy I jogged until I couldn't and then walked... about ten miles a week, up until 38 weeks maybe? I'll probably do the same this time, plus chasing DS around the park and going swimming with him and stuff.

  • I sadly gained close to 80 lbs with my DD. I lost all but 20-30: I stopped using a scale...I'm pregnant with #2 and I'm already gaining weight :( All I eat are veggies and salads. I've started getting MS and don't feel like being active at all so that's not going to help. My biggest thing this time around is eating for 1 and smaller meals. I feel like I was a vacuum with #1 and the aftermath and retraining to eat as 1 after birth was horrible. I'm just trying to accept that Gaining weight is just part of pregnancy.
  • I'm really stressed out about this too. I lost all my baby weight but gained back 10 pounds that I couldn't shake to save my life after I stopped BF. I gained 50 pounds with my son and it honestly caused problems towards the end. I blame my excessive weight gain for my preeclampsia which caused my labor to be crazy. I really don't want that to happen again. I'm hoping to start working out again here very soon!

  • Yes, very concerned - I had actually got down to 5 lbs less than my pre-pregnancy weight as soon as we found out but now I'm starving all the time, like every hr so I've gained it all back already :( it's very discouraging, I'm really hoping my appetite slows way down in 2nd tri like it did with my first. I'm trying to eat healthy snacks but i don't think it matters when I'm eating every freaking hour lol!

  • Im an Oct13 mama, though I didn't participate on the boards here at that time. Anywho… I never got back down to my pre pregnancy weight after my first but I FINALLY got down to my pre pregnancy weight with my second about a month or so before we got pregnant here with #3. I plan to walk a little once it cools down but honestly I plan to try and watch what I eat this time around. Good luck to us all! :)

I'm definitely nervous. I'm starting this pregnancy about 30lbs overweight. I'm pretty sure I've lost quite a bit due to the constant "morning" sickness. I'm hoping to take better care of myself once I'm feeling better. Just a few more weeks! I lost all my baby weight with my first but gained a bunch once I went back in BC :/ sucks
  • I'm an s12 momma that didn't do much here because I got 2 promotions when I was pregnant (fx for one promotion). I also had placenta previa and was put on modified bedrest and then full bedrest the last 3 months. I gained 60 pounds and I've only lost 35 of those pounds.

Part of the problem is that I did not lose any weight while bfing. I was ravenous and I only lost 10 pounds when my son was a year and half. I'm very nervous.

I had this issue too- I didn't lose weight well while BFing. I was constantly ravenously hungry, and of I tried cutting back on calories, my supply took a huge drop. Once I finally stopped breastfeeding completely (22 months) then I was able to lose some of the weight, but not all.

  • I actually told my midwife I didn't want to gain much weight because it would be extremely unhealthy for me to do so and it was a struggle to gain last time. She agreed the if I eat a great diet, exercised, and baby was growing she wouldn't said a word about my weight.
  • @ArchyFlores @ss456.. I didn't lose any weight BFing, either. I had major supply issues and any cut back on my calories made it even worse :( I'm still BFing right now at 22mo, but just before nap and bedtime, and I'm trying to cut back the amt of time.

  • @VitaLuna @ss456 @ArchyFlores Same here ladies. I don't know who said and confirmed weight loss during BFing but it surely didn't happen to me either. I was super hungry and I ate. Case closed. Thankfully I have lost the last stubborn 10 pounds since he doesn't nurse as often (over the last 8 months or so) but I am glad to be going into the deal again knowing that my weight won't just "melt off" because Im breastfeeding.

  • I was done ti my pre pregnancy weight at 6 weeks pp and gained all if it back breastfeeding. My body sucks like that.
  • I'm a June13 mom and lost all my weight right away but gained 20lbs (which is what I gained while pregnant!) after due to post partum thyroidisit and extreme anxiety. I even did p90x3 and lost 0lbs and gained no muscle tone while on my previous anxiety meds. Im really concerned about this pregnacy because I already felt uncomfortable about my weight and feel super bloated/fat at only 8 weeks. Plus I'm way more tired and naseus this time, I have "evening sickness"
  • I'm a J13 mom and was exactly 20lbs over my first pre-pregnancy weight which was also still over weight *sigh* my midwife was pretty positive I would have GD with my DS but nope. I have actually lost almost 10lbs this time around thanks to crazy food aversions but my boobs are so huge to begin with that I weigh almost the same. I'm super nervous about weight gain this time around.
I've been trying to drink more smoothies than anything else. The fact that I can make a smoothie taste like a fruit that I'm craving but have it packed with a ton of greens and protein I think has helped me stay on track this time. I just hope I'll stick to it by third trimester when my junk food needs kick in lol
  • With my 1st pregnancy I gained 40lbs and my baby was tiny (6.4). I lost about 30 lbs and I couldn't get down to ore pregnancy weight because I was already pregnant again! So I started out 10lbs overweight. Then I gained 30lbs with that pregnancy And baby was 8lbs. To gain less weight then, I was working out very strenuously and dieting the 1st trimester (I didn't know I was pregnant). Then I just continued to walk for the remaining of my pregnancy. I have since then gotten back to pre pre pregnancy weight. But the last time I went to the OB they still considered me fat. :/ I've been too tired to exercise but I try and do fun active things like, go biking withy family, walk at the park, play frisbee or go swimming. I am also watching what I eat, I try to eat just as I did before and drink lots of water (that curves my appetite because sometimes you're not hungry, you're thirsty). Hope it helps. Good luck!

  • I was lucky enough to lose the baby weight after #1 but I also lost all my muscle and am out of shape. I've been trying to walk at least thirty mins everyday but I'm worried about losing the weight this time around after baby is born ... There's no time to work out with one kid so I'm sure it'll be a bigger struggle with two!
