  I was not given the option of no anesthesia but I would have taken it either way. I believe they retrieved 13 eggs. I left DH, they put me under, did the process and I was back within 20 minutes, so it doesn't take very long. However, even with the pain meds, I still felt sore after and was sore for the next few days as well. I started to feel by day 4 and then transferred day 5.
  So I'm not sure how painful the procedure itself is, especially if they only retrieve a few but I'd hate for you to be in unnecessary pain or have such a bad experience with it that you fear your transfer.

  ***Trying to conceive since 9/12- m/c 2/13 from natural conception.

  I was not given an option either I had 28 retrieved 13 fertilized and 4 embryos that made it to day 5. I had sever cramping after the procedure and for a 2 days after. I don't have a high tolerance for pain. The anesthesia was a light one and the procedure was about 20 minutes. It would be hard to start the procedure and be in a lot of pain and then it's too late to take the anesthesia. If it's only one or two it might not take that long it depends on your level of pain tolerance. Good luck

  Thank you for your responses! I'm going to go with anesthesia. I don't want to be a stress case during the procedure - might as well take a quick sedated cat nap!!

  We weren't even given the option of no anesthesia! Our RE told us that no way would he be able to complete the procedure without it because it would be painful.
