how long for milk supply to stabilize?

I also posted in the breastfeeding group, hope that is ok:
My LO is 3.5 weeks old and breastfeeding has been going very well. I started pumping this week so my DH can give a bottle. I only pump if I don't feed and I get anywhere from 5-7oz from both breasts in the morning. I think I have a strong letdown and milk supply and after not feeding for 2 hours my breasts hurt. LO is sleeping 3-5 hour blocks at night and will go 2-4 hours during the day without eating usually. She also doesn't always eat from both sides which leaves me very engorged. I am looking for advice on when my supply may stabilize and/or tips so my breasts don't hurt as LO goes longer in between feedings. Thanks

It took me 4 weeks and i started pumping at 5-5 weeks

When engorged massage your breasts with hot water, best results are with a shower it'll ease the pain, but if you want to decrease your supply i wouldn't pump too often, pump as DH is feeding cause that a natural feeding time and eventually your supply will adjust

  • Most things I have read say that your production will stabilize anywhere from 6 weeks to 3 months. I'm in the same boat as you in terms of a strong letdown. My LO is 5 weeks old and I'm now trying to nurse only on one side per feeding because otherwise he is only drinking fore milk and not getting hind milk (so his poops are green). I found lots of helpful information on kellymom.com
