Implantation bleeding At almost 6 weeks

I am 6 weeks along and started bleeding yesterday. I had cramps as well. Went to urgent care and they sent to to the ER. After tons of blood test and 2 ultrasounds, they said it was implantation bleeding and that the cramps were being caused by a cyst on my overy. I had no clue implantion bleeding could happen that many weeks in. After freaking out all day that i miscarried, they said I was fine. Live and learn I guess. This is my first pregnancy so of course I freaked out. Has this happened to anyone else?

If you're already 6 weeks pregnant than for them to tell you it's implantation bleeding doesn't really make sense, IMO. The baby implanted two weeks ago. If you get implantation bleeding, it's usually a day or two before a positive pregnancy test. It is normal to get a small amount of spotting through out the first tri. It's called breakthrough bleeding and it's usually brown. Glad everything looked good in your bloodwork and ultrasounds though! That's great news

  • That's exactly what I thought. It gave me a little peace of mind knowing my hormone counts are high and all, but I'm still spotting a little. Hopefully it goes away.
  • Spotting can be normal but it wasn't implantation bleeding at 6 weeks. That seems weird they'd tell you that.

  • Maybe they meant it was old implantation blood? That's odd! Never heard of that before at 6 weeks. Glad everything else looks good!

They said the same thing to me when I went to the ER last week. I just nodded my head and rolled my eyes. No way would implantation spotting happen at 6 weeks and it most def wouldn't be red.

  • Good luck! Hopefully everything goes well tomorrow!
  • I have bled on and off from 5 weeks to 7 weeks. They told me I had a subchorionic hematoma and to rest whenever I spotted. 8 weeks now and haven't had spotting.
  • So I never had the "implantation" bleeding- I am currently 5+4 and this morning after using the restroom I noticed some bloody mucus on the TP. I've used the restroom since then and haven't had anymore? Is it normal? This is my first pregnancy and I don't want to rush to the ER for every little thing.

@amandariggen It seems pretty normal especially if it was only once. Some will say to call your doc, others might say to just mention if at next appt.

  • @PumpkinTi ok- I'll keep an eye on it and if things change I'll make a call. I haven't had my first appointment yet and they can't see me until July 24.
  • @amandariggen I'm 5 wks right now and have experienced the same thing. I called my doc just to see what she thought I should do since it will be 3 wks until I see her. She basically said that there's no prevention of mc, obviously we know that, but to rest my mind I could come in and get my levels tested today and Wednesday and see if they increase. Idk if I'm going to since I no other symptoms accompany it. I will be calling if I have a consistent amount of spotting or cramping/pain. I'm a pretty level headed person, I'm also a registered nurse and am going to school for DNP, but this scared me and made me very anxious, something I don't feel often. Good luck, keep us posted.
