Those who make their own baby food...

What do you use to store baby food in a freezer?

I am looking at different baby cubes and ice cube tray like things with lids made especially for baby food and am wondering if they are even worth it.

Re: Those who make their own baby food...

  • not sure what i'm going to do, but my friend IRL freezes it in regular ice cube trays and then puts them in ziplock bags to store more at one time.

  • I bought the cubes from One Step Ahead.  After they were frozen, I transfered them to a ziploc bag that I labeled.  I really like the cubes, but I know that other people used ice cube trays just fine.

  • I don't know why I didn't think to move them to ziploc bags after they were frozen. That is a good idea.  I haven't started yet, but am getting ready for when I do start which will be son.  Thanks for the tips.
  • I loved babycubes because you can fill, freeze, thaw, and feed in one container. No messing around with additional bowls and remembering to transfer ice cube trays to bags, etc. Also they're bpa free while baggies and ice cube trays may or may not be.

  • Yup, Ice cube trays, and after a day or so, we put it in ziploc bags with the name of the food on the outside of the bag.
  • I was going to get the baby cubes, but then read how people didn't like them since they popped open a lot.  But maybe I will check them out.

I didn't know about Mrs Reem's blog...that has a lot of good info so I will use that too!

  • Oh they do pop open if you try to fill them to the brim. Since food expands when you freeze it, you have to leave a little bit of room at the top. Then they don't pop.  :)

  • IMO, so not worth it!

I froze in ice cube trays covered with press n seal, then transferred to freezer zip locks, worked great!
