so please excuse me for starting a completely new thread, but I really just felt the need to tell you how much I appreciate you all. As a first-time mom I didn't know what to expect through this journey but I am so grateful for all the support (and sometimes snark) from you ladies. as I read other birth boards, I think to myself "whoaaa am I glad to be a part of June.."
So bear with me on my sappiness, but I really appreciate you all.

First week PP is almost over, and I have more questions than ever. I can't imagine not having you ladies to lean on and laugh with!
From nesting with scrubbing bubbles to always with the hand sanitizer...
Ladies who haven't labored yet, thumbs up! You're going to do great, and we'll be caught up and back together soon.
I did NOT have the energy to share my birth story last night but I'll share it here! My contractions began at 3 am yesterday morning, and were very mild but just enough that I couldn't sleep. Woke FI up around 5 so he could cancel his 7:30 meeting out of town. Our doula came by the house at 9:30 am and checked heart tones every half hour. The contractions progressed and got stronger through the day but I was still walking at talking through them, even eating, until 12 pm. They were pretty regularly 3 minutes apart by then, and I was dilated to a 4 when the doula checked me. So off to the hospital we went! We live 5 minutes away from the hospital so I had 2 contractions on hands and knees in the back seat of the car lol. By the time we got there, 1 hour after being a 4, I was an 8 and 100% effaced! The pain really started to increase and the midwife recommended breaking my water to move things along. At first I refused, but after 2 hours of constant contractions with no progress, I said yes. There was some meconium in the fluid (I was half expecting it since I was so overdue!). Breaking my water changed the course of my labor immensely. After that the intensity of each contraction increased ten fold, but 2 more hours passed with no progress and I became so discouraged. Luckily my midwife allowed me and my FI to bring a birthing ball into the shower which helped me get through a few contractions with a clear head. I realized that if I kept waiting it out at the rate I was going (barely hanging on) I would not be able to push. I used my code word to mean I wanted pain medication, and decided to do a walking epidural. It was placed 15 minutes from me asking for it and I honestly don't think I could've held on a minute longer. Once I had the epidural, the contractions went back to the pain level of before my water broke. I could still feel everything sufficiently and move everything, they even let me squat. This enabled me to relax through the contractions and within an hour I was a 10 and ready to begin pushing. Baby made his inital descent quickly, and had everyone thinking it would be a swift easy delivery. I pushed for 3 hours with his head in sight but the progress that came with each push would be wiped out between. The epidural had worn off at this point so I really could feel everything and there were no breaks between contractions. After 3 hours, one push came with a sudden gush of blood (scary!) so after initially refusing use of the vacuum, I agreed because it was now an emergency. The vacuum was all little guy needed since he was so close to being out--3 pushes later he was here! They put him on my chest immediately since he was healthy and aspirated his lungs due to meconium while I held him. I had a second degree tear from the vacuum and his weird shaped head, and the doctor forgot my epidural was done and did the stitches without numbing the area (ouch!) but by that time LO had already latched so I was distracted by the pain of my nipples being ripped off (holy shit it hurt like hell- I have very sensitive nipples and LO is a "champion suctioner" according to the LC).
So basically, even though I did not get the natural birth I hoped for and had some interventions, I know they all happened at the perfect time to bring baby safely into our arms. He's only 26 hours old and already has had 3 massive poops and 4 pees-- his first of them on the ped
My pain experience was very similar to yours-- no numbing with the stitching! Although I knew I did want interventions in my case. They just didn't work well.
Good job, mama!
@klkonwi been thinking of you and wishing you a smooth recovery. Hope you're able to get help with pain management if needed. Watson is adorable and so is his name!

Just wanted to drop in and say how much I love you guys. Huge, hormonal, weepy love for you guys. I truly cannot imagine how difficult ALL of this would be without you ladies here to commiserate, and teach, and inspire, and open new avenues of thought.
An authentic blessing (NOT a sarcastic southern bless) to all of you, everywhere.
Edited, proper gifage
