I don't understand if you're going to second guess the ultrasound then get the genetic test that determines sex through blood. If my tech told me the sex, I would trust their professional opinion and not go to a board full of strangers to get their interpretation.

Obviously, that's not the only thing it does. That's not my point. My point was if all you're going to do is second guess the ultra sound pic then why not get the genetic test that tells you the sex with 100% clarity? To me, I was more excited to find out if we had markers for chromosome disorders. Which we didn't thank goodness. Also, it's just a blood test so I'm not sure what issue you would have with somebody getting it done just to find out the sex super early (between 11-13 weeks.) Some people don't believe in genetic testing because they wouldn't terminate the pregnancy for any disorders, these are some of the people that could do the test for sex only. I'm not saying it's common, but if people do it... Who cares? It's not an invasive procedure. For someone that gets on to people for judging in other posts, you sure don't practice what you preach.

Because it's a medical procedure that costs money and resources. It is not about finding out the sex - that's just a side effect. It's for people who are high risk of chromosomal disorders and not just for funsies.

Also using the argument that people who wouldn't terminate don't get genetic testing is narrow-minded. Some of the disorders that are being tested for are fatal. Others may require intervention shortly after birth. Genetic testing can be very empowering and allow parents to be as knowledgeable and prepared as possible in case of a genetic disorder that they choose not to terminate.

Where I live if we choose the genetic testing, we are not told the sex, regardless if we want to know or not. My doctor says that knowing the sex isn't important to the child's health. During our anatomy scan we don't find out the sex of the baby either.
Again the doctor says that knowing the sex isn't important to the child's health.

If we choose to find out we must pay out of pocket for a 3D/4D ultrasound.
