We have a daycare that only charges $660. Which isn't bad at all but we are going to have $660 x 2!!! Because EmJay will still be in daycare with the baby for 2 years. Ugh. . . That is like $30,000 over the course of 2 years. Dam!!
I live in the Journal Square area, but I'm fairly close to Grove Street, as well. Paulus Hook is not far at all!
Same situation here with work. I usually get out around 8P (on a good day). DH's schedule changes since he works for Port Authority and who knows what shift he'd be on!
What hospitals are you looking at to birth in?
I don't have a car (yet... Now I'm realizing we may need once baby comes) and just moved here from the uws so im sticking with an nyc hospital. My doctors are at Weill Cornell in their Tribeca office and it's easy to get to via exchange st. path. The hospital affiliated with them is Columbia Presbyterian Lower Manhattan. We're taking the labor & delivery tour for that hospital and NYU in July. I didn't want to be more than 30 min door to door so it's between those two for us but most likely Presbyterian because I loved the doctor.

I stopped working after DS2 was born because of Daycare cost. I am now back at work but I work a weird schedule that allows us to only need a part time nanny. With 3 under 4 daycare cost is definitely out of our budget.
Again, same situation. Moved from UES (grew up there) to Brooklyn a few months before we got married then from BK to a Jersey. I actually never even learned how to drive (didn't need to). Living here though, I'm realizing we're going to need one sooner than later. Definitely going to get one before baby arrives.
I love Weill Cornell. My job has a partnership with them and I use them when I can. I would like to deliver in the city, since I'm so familiar with it but I'm too worried I won't make it to the hospital.

Columbia Presbyterian Lower Manhattan is less than 20 min away (4.5 miles). Right now at 9am admits rush hour it's 32 min. The only closer is the hospital in Jersey City or Hoboken. Hackensack is further than Columbia. Where you delivering?

I'm going to a new ob-gyn next Thursday and they are affiliated with NY Presbyterian Lower Manhattan or Beth Israel. I would pick NY Presbyterian Lower Manhattan since my MIL lives close by and can stop by.

Nice! Are they at Weil Cornell?
And I'm sure your MIL will be there no matter which hospital you pick

DS who is 20 months costs us about $1000 a month and he goes to a Montessori based school. That will increase to $2000 for two going once baby arrives. I'm looking into a Aupair as a friend mentioned they had one a couple of years ago and it ended up cheaper than daycare.
My OB is affiliated with Hackensack. I really really like him so I don't think I'm going to switch. Last time we met him there it was about a 20 minute drive, in the rain. I need to research the hospital though. I haven't even started!
I live in suburban Houston and we pay $870 for my 3 year old to go to Montessori but it is $1000 for babies. What's funny about that is that once a kid is on solid food, the food is included in tuition, lol!
My kids don't go until they are 2 years old though. My mom stays home with them until then because we prefer it and she is willing. And that's free!
