1st Trimester

I'm 5 weeks and buying stuff...

I know it's early but I am only buying little things like bottles because they are on sale and its a good deal. Nothing gender specific or big. Just bottles, different flow nipples, bottle brush, and little things. Buying one thing a week for now.

Re: I'm 5 weeks and buying stuff...

  • I am 5 weeks and I have bought some gender neutral baby clothes that I found on sale. It's okay to buy stuff! After all it's hard to wait when you are so excited!

  • I'm 6 weeks and haven't purchased anything yet. I plan on "treating myself" to buy something after my first U/S in a couple weeks to make it real. Buy when you feel comfortable. I can definitely understand your excitement! Congrats.

Hehe I also started buying things at 6 weeks. I know it was naughty with it being so early but felt like I just needed to buy a few bits and get it out of my system
  • I started printing coupoms for baby stuff like diapers, creams and washes. i havent purchased anything yet but i want to buy things we will need, especially diapers, at least once a month if i can find a good deal to have a little stock when baby arrives! especially since fl has no state dissability, I work for a sm company with no paid leave, and private dissability ins i could have purchased through aflac has a waiting period of 1 year before they pay for pregnancy! so ill be living off our tax refund and any tempory assistance we can get when i lose my income (hubby is dissabled and we already have 2 boys) i will wait until we find out gender to start hunting for second hand clothes and buying clearance in between seasons. i do have some favorites im sure i will buy new but im tryung to be very thrifty!
  • I bought my first onesie carter set last night for the new baby. I'm 5 weeks and 1 day. We've also started stocking up on diapers when we find great deals. Some people hold off but it's hard to wait.
  • I'm 8 wks and ordered breast pump for free from my health insurance @ 6 wks
  • A breast pump from your insurance company? Do tell.

We buy diapers every time we go to the grocery store or Target. That way we will have a little cousin by the end.
  • Coushin. Not cousin :))
  • @dksport03 how did you get it through your insurance???
  • I've ordered a breast pump thru my insurance too. I'm having twins so my mother in law has started to buy diapers lol. I also received a 20$ gift card to old navy thru a website called uhcbabyblocks.com. It's thru my insurance. It was either that or a diaper bag and cause I didn't want to buy anything yet until after my next ultrasound I chose the gift card lol. Still haven't decided if we're getting two cribs or just have the babies share one yet
  • My MIL bought diapers, but most of them didn't work for DD (Huggies gave her a rash and regular Pampers leaked). We were unable to return the open diapers, and one box she bought at a store that wasn't near us, so we couldn't return that either. Total waste of money. @NoSugarCoating is right: Don't buy anything that could cause a reaction (diapers, detergents, soaps, lotions) ahead of time; you have no idea what will work for you.

i'm getting a pump through my insurance company too. some companies will rent you a pump for a certain amount of time and some companies reimburst you for buying your own. you have to call your insurance company and see what their policy is.

i'm 8 weeks and haven't purchased anything yet. i guess i'm afraid to "jinx" it. i want to go for my ultrasound before i start buying stuff. :)
  • Since breast pumps were mentioned -- I also plan on getting a breast pump via my health insurance company. My policy covers 100% allowable for a manual pump, but I am currently looking into my electric breast pump allowable. Just curious what you ladies are hearing from your health insurance companies about them covering an electric pump? I understand every health insurance policy, insurance company, and state policies are different, just throwing the general question out there.

  • @jlschifano Be sure to just contact your health insurance company and see firstly if your policy covers any lactation equipment and/or counseling. They will be able to look at your policy and tell you what the allowables are for manual/electric pumps, whichever you want.

  • I have BCBS they cover both electric and manual @ 100%. I'm able to get a new one every calendar year. I thought there would be a waiting period but nope. They verified with my doc and I received it in the mail last week.

    Congrats!!!
  • I called and asked about my prenatal coverage the rep was really helpful. She gave me the number to call and get my free breast pump electric or manual. I decided on the electric one
  • I've never heard of getting a pump so early.  I got an electric one through insurance once my 1st was born and was in the NICU and I was unable to be with him to breastfeed 24/7.
  • For diapers you ladies need to buy at Toys R Us. I made a registry and they told me a year after baby's birth they will exchange diaper bought there for the next size up for free.
  • If you call your insurance and they will explain to you your coverage for a breast pump. My insurance covers manual or electric, single or double breast pumps. You can order it once pregnancy is confirmed by a physician/dr's office.

@Sharinalong22 as a mom of twins I strongly recommend 2 cribs. Mine started waking each other up by accidentally kicking and sleeper pulling. One crib is fine for the first couple of months but once they start trying to roll it's definitely worth it to have the second crib!

  • we've been buying stuff since before I even got pregnant! Haha! Most of it I s super cheap big stuff from my sister in law like an exersaucer for 10$! We already had a room in a nice neutral turquoise  for future babies so its a good place to store baby things!
