While it's definitely bloat, my philosophy is that if you're bloating bc you're preggers than you're showing be proud haha! It might not be an actual baby bump but it is a result of your baby. I look 6mobths along and am only 7 weeks. I've been offered numerous seats on the subway this week because of it! Just go w it whether it is your baby or BECAUSE of your baby
:-S plenty of women who are on here have fulfilling careers, degrees and loving partners...and still think there's a difference between answering a question and being caustic about it.
Unfortunately for OP, she asked a question that I'm sure many women ask throughout their pregnancies, and because there's women who hang out on pregnancy forums for "years", they don't have time, energy or patience to be kind. Science and fact are most certainly what we need, but these boards are also for people to support each other.
I've only lurked between the TTC and now my due date month boards, but I find myself turning away from this app more and more everyday because the people on it are so unnecessarily cruel. Do you think it's a silly question? Don't respond. Don't clog the boards with sarcastic gifs and righteous attitudes.
@taylorconroy The responses to these type of threads remain relatively tame, until, inevitably, it seems, someone insists on arguing that their body is defying the laws of science.
The responses are helpful because you aren't showing at 9-10 weeks, you're bloated. Telling someone that is not mean or rude. It's simply a fact that, apparently, some people can't handle hearing. It's ridiculous.
Personally, I think whenever this question comes up, the first response should be the easily searchable chart on fundal height. For whatever reason, it takes people 2-3 pages of vitriol to get to this point. It's ridiculous.
If it's right there, absolutely zero further explanation is necessary.
@Lizzie5831 that chart, while helpful, is never going to convince some people. I agree it should be posted early, but posters should really be searching before posting this question. And vitriol is a pretty strong word choice when the apt description is snark.
Frankly I'm disgusted with the way women talk to each other on this forum. I'm not saying we should all be 'cute' to each other (how patronising), but at least be a little more sensitive to people's emotions. Being pregnant, especially for the first time, can be stressful and emotional, so PLEASE it wouldn't hurt to be a little kinder. This is the third unnecessarily nasty thread I've come across on this forum. I agree that scientific facts must be taken into account, but the science of pregnancy is not completely infallible! The Bump app itself says you may start 'showing' at 10 weeks, but this may only be notable to you. Yes, that enormous round tummy is gas, but somewhere under there, pushing your belly out, is your already over double-sized uterus. You are likely to show earlier if you are slender and/or this isn't your first baby. I'm nearly 11 weeks and have definitely noticed a permanent slight rounding of my lower belly. Gas or not, I'm just overjoyed to be pregnant. Good luck to the lady who originally posted this, and never feel bad for asking questions that have apparently already been asked on this forum before. We don't all sit around constantly answering the same questions and getting annoyed about it.
There are some woman who are in this group (and it's ALWAYS the SAME ONES) who have to be so damn condescending, negative and complete know it alls. It is SO annoying!!!! If she thinks she had a bump at nine weeks, maybe she does?!?! My boobs have grown from a 32D to a 32DDD and although I wouldn't go as far as to say that I have a "bump" things are definitely fitting a little more snuggly. We should build each other up on here, not try to see who's always right about frivolous bullshit.

Its because in pregnancy- FACT: your boobs can get bigger/fuller and mom can go up bra sizesand. FACT: belly gets bloated hense the "showing." it is bloat NOT BABY SHOWING! It is impossible for the fetus to be big enough at this stage to make the belly stick out. Of you chose not to believe it- thats your choice; live in your world of puppies and rainbows and live in imaginary world where a blueberry can make your belly look pregnant.
Well I mean, if you eat enough of anything the size of your gut will probably start to change...

Then some poor girl comes freaking out that something is wrong with her baby because some genius has convinced her she should be showing at 9 weeks. TRUE STORY! Id rather build up other females and in turn help them be more confident in their pregnancies with facts than have them believe a fantasy. Im gonna need woman to beat it with all this lets hold hands and braid each others hair nonsense. Men can be frank with each other without spazzing out about it. I should not have to tell you the truth in any special way because we have vaginas in common.
This is the thread that doesn't end. Yes it goes on and on my friend. Some newbie started typing it, and not knowing what it is. And we continue arguing forever, just because!

Science is based on FACTS. However, ignorance is bliss. So quit arguing. It's gotten nobody nowhere except for constantly repeating themselves. And for those of you saying "these women are rude, condescending, know-it-alls, belittling" etc you keep saying how they need to be more supportive and they don't need to be rude and then you mention how everyone on here is hormonal because were pregnant. So don't you think that maybe if you read something (in which you really cannot tell what tone they are saying it in etc)YOU could be more understanding on how they are hormonal too? Not all pregnant women just get sad and easily cry... some of them get very annoyed, angry, bitter... There is mixed emotions everywhere and you have to learn not to take everything so personal. This is the Internet, you cannot tell how somebody is stating something through text. That is all.
Congrats @amonty14 on your first pregnancy!! Very exciting :-) I myself am coming down from a major three-week bloat sesh. Work pants (i.e. non-stretch dress pants) were not an option for me (most still aren't). Call me crazy but I found a couple of "pregancy yoga" videos on YouTube, which is really just super easy yoga focussed more on leg strengthening and breathing, and I found it really helped with the bloating. The videos are short and sweet and get all of the body parts moving to some extent. Maybe give that a try if you're feeling self-conscious about "showing" early.
I'm 10 weeks and have been seeing an abdomen change the last few weeks. I was very surprised how early it happened. Bloat, additional blood volume, relaxed muscle tissue etc. are all part of pregnancy so I'd say it's safe to call it a baby bump even though it isn't the baby pushing out yet. Enjoy embracing your new bump. : )
Wow...it really is disappointing to see people be so rude to one another. You can give facts without be a complete jerk. Every pregnancy is different and this should be a safe place to ask any question without be ridiculed.

Thanks for digging up an old thread to wag your finger at us.

I am a nurse and I don't appreciate people coming to me with BS and expecting me to blow smoke up their backside. These ladies here are honest and it is much appreciated from me!
Re: Baby bump @ 9 weeks??
But what about a sparkly baby?

Because the bump is always right?
