Travel at 31-32 weeks?

I am going on a week long vacation about 9-10 hrs from my home state. Will be traveling in a car with someone else driving the whole way. Any tips or suggestions for me to stay comfortable? Should I not go or travel at this stage in my pregnancy?? #nervous

  • I am going on a trip at 31 weeks.  2 hours driving, 2 hours flying each way.  Should not be ab issue.  Drink a lot of water and get out to walk around and stretch every hour or two.  With your trip being so long, make sure to have a lot of snacks with you.  My cousin flew down here in April at 31 weeks with no issues.  I know you're not flying, but most airlines will allow you to travel up to 36 weeks.  If you have any questions, just ask your doctor at your next appointment.
  • As long as your doctor is ok with you traveling, it shouldn't be a problem. Mine is letting me travel up to 34 weeks. I would ask for a copy of you OB records to take with you just incase. If anything happens it will be MUCH easier for the doctors where you are vacationing to treat you if you walk in with your records.
  • When we move in August I'll be just entering the third trimester and our drive will be 17 hours. We'll be traveling with our two dogs and 2 1/2 year old twins so we'll be making stops every couple hours anyways. Like others said keep hydrated and have snacks on hand. Every time we stop I plan on getting out and walking around for awhile just to combat any swelling that could happen from sitting for so long. I also think it's a good idea to have your ob records with you just in case. Have fun on your vacation!
  • When I was 29 weeks pg with my son, we went to the beach which was a 10+ hour drive.  My doctor to me to make sure that we stopped every couple of hours so that I could stretch and move around.   We also were traveling with a year and half old, so we needed to take breaks often anyway.  It took us a little longer to get there, but I didn't have any problems.  Good luck!

  • Im in your boat. Doing about a 8 hour drive for long Labor Day weekend. Hubby driving. I will be 32+weeks. Planning to go as long as everything is good around that timing, will ask doc and make sure I feel up to it as well. The good thing with driving is if we ever need to get to a hospital should be passing tons! My last flight will be at 28ish weeks which I feel good about bc going for work then stopping home for my shower and since hubby not coming would rather not be further along.
  • I'm traveling for my cousin's wedding at 36/37 weeks.
  • I will be flying at 33 weeks as long as nothing comes up that would recommend I don't. Granted I'll be in my home state so if something would happen (I don't mean from the traveling just in general) I know all of my preferred doctors and hospitals. We will be about 3 1/2 4 hours away at 36 weeks and we are planning on going but I did make sure we booked the refundable hotel just in case I'm not up to it.

I wasn't planning on flying after 30 just for personal comfort reasons but my nieces first birthday is August 15th and I really want to be there if I can.
