How many of us are having twins?

so I'm digging through posts and realize that a lot of us have found out a little extra surprise! Were you expecting twins? Does it run in your family? Post US pics if you have them! Would love to see how many of us got the surprise of a lifetime!

Btw: it does not run in my family, and we are still so shocked! Babies are doing great both have a heartbeat about 170 and measuring 8 weeks!!

I've had a reoccurring twin dream for the past two years. My u/s is tomorrow. I'm sure there's only one in there but in the back of my mind I'm like...
This.  My us isn't until July 13th.
  • It's so exciting that there's so many with twins! It brings me back to when I found out I was having twins 2 years ago! I keep having dreams where I'm pregnant with twins again, but we will see! I won't find out until mid July!

Oh my! My first appt is Friday at 9 weeks. It's a new doc so I'm not sure what she'll do. People say good things come I threes and so far ours have come in two. I keep joking with my husband that our third good thing will be another "two". 1. Second pregnancy 2. Second grade teaching job 3.????

  • I would love to be having twins, but I'm sure it's just one in there. Twins don't run in our family either, but I like to remind DH that it has to start somewhere.

    I have a scan for a head count tomorrow. I have 9mnth old twins currently (and a 2yo, 4yo and 7yo)
  • Our U/S isn't until next Tues. but twins DO run in my family - my mother's mother is a fraternal twin and my father's mother is also a fraternal twin and no one in our family to date has had twins again, I keep teasing my husband we are going to have twin girls lol, he doesn't find it very amusing ;) I would honestly love to have twins though!

Congrats to all the twin mommies!

  • I had a horrible scare/bleed this morning which led to me having a scan at 4w+6. Hopefully everything will be ok- But the scan did show what looked like 2 little sacs!!! The radiographer did say that one might be a cyst but could also turn out to be a baby. It's too early to tell but I can't help but get excited!!! I'd love twins... Fingers crossed. Going back for another scan in a week to find out. Feels like a million years away!
My mom was a twin :)
  • I was having twins as Well, But last ultrasound showed an empty bag! It's such a double feeling. You lost a child, But the other one is growing good...
  • I don't know what to make of some of the things I have going on.

I'm unsure of how far I am because I have very irregular cycles. That being said I estimate I'm somewhere around 6 weeks. If that's true, that means I would have gotten my positive pregnancy test around 4 weeks. Isn't that early?

The nurse used the stupid wheel thing and insists that I'm 8 weeks. I can't have an ultrasound until the end of July (my dr doesn't do them before 10wks).

Anyway so I'm guessing I'm 6 weeks but without morning sickness and no change in diet, I've gained 10lbs already. My doctor doesn't seem to be concerned and I haven't heard anything about my bloodwork, then again they think I'm 2 weeks further than I think I am. I dunno.

This is my 3rd pregnancy. It's different from my other two. I don't know how to explain it but it's different. My symptoms are different and I just feel different.

I keep having dreams about twins and can't get twins off my mind. I'm trying as hard as I can not to think about it. I'm not sure how I would feel about twins. Terrified probably but also blessed.

(My moms grandpa was a twin and hubby has twin aunts)

    Thoughts?

I got my BFP test 2 days before I was 4 weeks. Some people get them even earlier. sometimes symptoms don't always mean you're having twins, the only real way to know is by ultrasound! At 6 weeks they are the size of an Appleseed so they shouldn't affect weight gain just yet. Since it's your third pregnancy you could be feeling different. My pregnancies have been so different so far.
So just hang in there until your ultrasound. Don't start worrying until you have to (which you shouldn't worry if you end up pregnant with twins! You will learn how to handle it! And they really are a blessing!) Also, husbands family doesn't have anything say in having twins. It's the mothers side!

Oh no! I'm so sorry for your loss! I've heard it's common to lose a twin early on. How far along were you?

  • Thanks!!

First ultrasound at 6 weeks, 2 days! Saw two little flickering lights and was told that it was 2 little heartmuscles starting up! That was kind off a shock. Went back for another ultrasound with 8 weeks, 3 days and i could see that one of the bags was empty and it had nothing in it... Other baby was doing fine tho. Good heartbeat and about the size one should expect at this term!

So exciting to get to talk to other mommy's to be expecting twins. I found out I'm having identical twins & we are beyond excited. My boyfriends dad is a twin so it definitely runs in the family! I'm due around Feb 20

Technically, identical twins don't run in families. Fraternal twins are the only type that have a genetic inheritance. Identical twins happen by random chance. You just got lucky!

  • Hello twin mummy's
  • My due date is the 29th, they will be born 36 weeks though x
  • I found out that we are having twins at my week 6 ultrasound. I was suspicious based on my beta numbers though so I wasn't completely floored to see two, but it still felt huge. I am due feb 22.
  • Has anybody here started To research car seat, strollers, cribs yet? Wondering where you are looking to find things that work well with twins. I want to try to spread out the spending some.
  • @hopes4baby I've been researching on cribs and strollers. I wanted a double baby crib at first but after they got too big we'd have to get them two separate ones anyway! So I've been looking at the 4 in ones that change from infant to toddler beds. I haven't done too much research on strollers but I know I want a side by side. I wish there was one that could be a double but could also be taken apart if I'm with someone for them to push one. But as far as I can tell that's not a thing! Haha

We have a set of fraternal twins on both side of our families however, I will be the first to have identical (mono-di) twins. We found out at 8 weeks pregnant and were verrrry surprised and shocked. I am now almost 17 weeks pregnant and look like I am around 21 weeks lol. Did any of your doctors tell you how early you "MIGHT" deliver?

I think my doctor said twins are born on average 2-3 weeks early?

Mine specifically told me she wants me to plan on setting aside time to rest each day between 20-30 weeks, when the risks of preterm delivery would mean the worst. I wonder if any specific amount of rest has really been shown to lessen risks?

  • Recommendations from a twin mom for car seats, strollers & cribs.

    Get them their own crib.

Chicco Keyfit 30 seats fit preemies great. Even if you have two 7lb babies, MANY seats have harness heights that are too high despite them being rated for a 5lb baby. The baby trend flex loc is an AWFUL choice ;)

I would go with a snap n go stroller for the first 6ish months or so. You can usually get them used (or new) for under $100. The baby trend double snap n go with stadium seating OR the joovy double snap n go is a great choice. Otherwise if you're looking for a forever stroller, the baby jogger city mini double with two car seat adapters is a great option.

  • I am pregnant with my second set of twins. My girls are nearly 4! These are babies 6-7 for me. Due 29 feb, but will only go to 36 weeks due to having preeclampsia last time.
Prams I would advise would be the out and about nipper or mountain buggy.
The city select is also great if your looking for tandam. I originally had a icandy with my first twins. It go so heavy and I found all the money spent was a waste.
I am only buying 1 Moses basket this time, they share. And they share a cot until 1 year. Although I plan on getting a co sleeper this time, I have one that will hold twins until 6 months. There great for space saving.
You will definitely need to bouncers/swings and I would recommend a double sling, the many wrap sort.
Also, I'm stocking up on 5lb baby grows. Most twins are between 4/6lbs born.
Would be lovely to chat to all you mummy's. Twin mummy's have a bond without even trying. They just understand each other.
Most of my good friends now are mummy's of twins xxxx
  • A also have twins in my family, my grandad is a twin, his nan had 4 sets!!!
My mums cousins have also had twins.
    I'm a double yolker!
