Anyone else a FTM in early 30's?

Ha! Just was feeling left out between the "20's" and "late 30's" threads.

I am 30 (will be 31 when baby is born.) I can be a bit of a perfectionist so I wanted to aim for a baby after 30 (not too early, not too late - felt just right) - onviously it's different for everyone but I know with where I'm from and in my circle, having one in my 20's would elicit some comments and side- eyes ... Not that it should matter but I wanted to enjoy my 20's and being selfish.
I'm still the first of my close friends to have a baby though. Everyone is just getting married!

  • I'll be 28 (I don't technically fit in the early 20's group or either of the 30's groups), but DH is 31 and will be 32 when this one comes. I think the late 20's to early 30's group is probably the majority of people here, based on my previous experiences here.

  • Had DS at 28 and DD at 30. #3 is due about a week after I turn 34. Other kiddos were a week early so we'll see.

  • I'm 32 and will have the baby at 33. Funny story, my dad was 33 when I was born, my grandpa was 33 when my dad was born and my great grandpa was 33 when my grandpa was born so I am (unintentionally) carrying on a long-standing family tradition apparently. Early 30's is where it's at!
  • I'm 33 and this will be my first.

My husband and I are both 32. This is our first. A big bunch of my friends just had babies and I feel like it's great timing for us.
  • I think its rude to use the term FTM... as if women who work or are in school can't be bothered to be a mom "full time"....

And honestly technically you should only have to be a mom half the time... as you partner should share equal duty regardless of their situation!

Being that I'm a TV producer who works 50+ hours on an easy week... Yes I definitely mean "first time mom".

All moms are full-time moms! I'd never suggest otherwise :)

  • @inomniaparatus sorry for the confusion.... put it down to end of school year brain drain and increased irritability!

Months before my BFP I resigned from my full time secondary teacher job and accepted a PhD studentship at a top university... I thought being 10 years older then most of my colleagues was going to be interesting but I will be starting the programme in my second trimester and needing to take some time off in spring.  Luckily in the UK they are much more flexible about maternity and paternity and in general have a much better work life balance.  After my 12 week scan I plan on having a sit down with the head professor and coming up with a plan.  Its a combined programme of chemical engineer, computer science and biomedical science so health and safety around equipment and chemicals for research may be an issue.  As I will mainly be working in metabolomics and epigeneics I am hoping we can design most of my first year research to be analysis based (computer) and write up a review paper or two which could all be done more flexible from home on a computer.

The idea of all this going down in the next 5 years is terrifying... I always wanted two kids close together but now thinking one may be more than enough!

  • I'm 32 and will be 33 when baby is born. My husband is 35 and will be 36 when baby is born. It's funny bc all his friends have 2-3 kids already and all of mine are just starting.
  • I'm not a ftm, but I'm going to join in here anyways ;)
I'm 30 and will be having baby number 2. My first I had when I was 28. They will end up being almost 3 years apart (4 months shy of that).
  • I will be 30 on Monday - glad to know I have a home here! DH is 34 and will be 35 when (hopefully) this bundle of joy arrives. This is our third pregnancy but are still waiting for our first to take home. But the constantly rising hcgs has been a lovely early birthday present!

  • IMO all moms are full time moms. I work full time, but that doesn't mean I'm not a mom when I'm at work. Do dads cease to be dads when they work? Nope. I'm working to provide for our children, just as DH is.

This is a very sensitive subject for me as I've had numerous family members who have said something like "I couldn't let anyone else raise my children" to me. No one should have to feel bad about the way they provide and add value to their family.

  • I'm 29 and I will be 30 when LO arrives. I am a first time mom and very excited and nervous nervous. I do have two step boys who are 8 and 5 and I couldn't love them anymore if they were my own! I am awaiting the day when we are able to tell them! The older one has been asking when I was going to have a baby... I said when God thinks it's time. He simply stated that when we have the baby party he hopes everything will be pink haha I'm guessing he wants a sister! I just want a healthy baby!

I started a group for First Time Mamas due in February 2016. Anyone want to join? I am still figuring out how to use the Group Function. I may have to send you an invite!

  • I am 31 and if baby comes on schedule, will be 32 when baby is born. FTM also. My sister is 36 and has a freshman and senior in high school. I can't decide who was smarter, me for waiting or her from getting them out young.
  • I'm 32 and a FTM, I'll be 33 when the baby is born.
