*UPDATE IN COMMENTS - Loss :( )7 weeks, 10,000shcg, no sac! Drs are confused!

Hi ladies,

I have scoured through every single board online for some help but mines an absolute doosy!

Last Monday I shouldve been 6w2d, hcg at 4560. Had an early dating scan abdominally and internally and found nothing in the tubes and uterus, not even a sack!

Convinced I was loosing my baby, 6 days later went to the hospital after a slight pain (pain maybe 1/10) on my right side (which has now subsided), stayed in hospital for the whole weekend. I had a repeat US today, again nothing to be seen anywhere and hcgs have risen to the 10,000s!

I have had no bleeding or spotting, no extreme pain apart from the odd twinge and my pregnancy symptoms are still present. My periods are also like clockwork and run on a 28 day cycle.

Drs are doing repeat bloods tomorrow, and another visit to the dr.

Had anybody heard of anything like this happening before? Where on earth is this baby if my levels are rising nicely?

Just having no diagnosis is absolutely breaking me.. :(

  • No advice just sending Ts and Ps for some answers for you

  • T&P that you get answers!
when did you get your first positive hpt? My only guess would be that you ovulated later and aren't really 7wks, so there's nothing to see yet.

    Thank you so much ladies!

PumpkinTi my LMP was 2nd May, got a faint BFP on the 26th May (4 days before AF due). Confirmed pregnancy via blood test on the 28th with hcg at 56.

Possible I couldve ovulated earlier and i couldve caught the pregnancy really early.

Regardless if my dates were off, by now with those hcgs and being that far along (4 weeks since bfp) they should be able to see something at least!
  • How frustrating ! Thoughts and prayers ...
  • This is just my opinion, but I don't buy this at all. It sounds like a bunch of BS to me.
Most doctors don't admit people to the hospital for a miscarriage when there is no evidence a miscarriage is happening. I'm a nurse and I have had a miscarriage. I was never admitted to the hospital. The only time a patient experiencing a miscarriage is admitted is if there is a complication and the patient requires extra monitoring.
  • Have they only done abdominal ultrasounds? If so, they really should do the transvaginal scan. It's the only way to get the clearest picture of what's happening in there.

For example, about 5 years ago I went in with severe abdominal pain. After hours at the ER, including an abdominal u/s AND an MRI on their brand new machine, they found nothing and sent me home. The pain returned, and this time they did a trans-v scan, which showed a ruptured ovarian cyst. I was in and out of the ER in 30 minutes and it was a fraction of the cost of the MRI. Ugh.
  • I have no idea, but I hope you get answers soon. That sounds beyond frustrating to have every sign of pregnancy and high hCG, yet nothing to show on the ultrasound. T&Ps!!

Thanks every one else for t&ps.
Ive come back from the dr, hcg has only risen by 800 in 48 hours.
They have diagnosed it as a Pregnancy of an Unknown Location and suspects i should begin miscarrying shortly.
I have another appt Monday week for another blood test to see if hcgs have begun to drop.
Thanks for your support. I am absolutely heartbroken. Also frustrated at how there is nothing i can do to speed up the miscarriage and start trying again.
Btw Bethechangekaren yes i did have the internal ultrasound too.
  • I'm so sorry for your loss.

Mom to Benjamin 6/2011 and Lena 5/2013; baby 3 on the way

  • I'm sorry you're going through all this. More T&Ps.

  • Once the hcg is over 1500 or so, you should definitely see a sac in the uterus with transvaginal ultrasound. If nothing is there at over 10,000 then it's ectopic. I'm confused why they want you just to wait it out? Don't they usually recommend you get the medication asap to speed the miscarriage along?

I'm sorry I don't really understand what's going on, but I'm worried that if it is a possible missed tubal ectopic that it could be dangerous to just wait it out. I thought it was very difficult to locate tubal pregnancies via ultrasound?
I'm also sorry that you got some comments here that sounded anything but supportive and sympathetic. For the most part I've thought this group had been better than my previous experiences with the bump.

Hi ss46 just like you i wish a had definitive answers.
I had an internal scan twice where ovaries and tubes were checked and they look fine.
The drs have said quite posdibly the pregnancy had never developed and my hcgs were slow to rise in the beginning (only 10000 for 7 weeks is quite low). The other possibility is that my body had absorbed any signs of pregnancy earlier on, and my body is just taking a while to catch up.
I asked about d&c and the dr said it will only clear the uterus and that's my problem - its not in the uterus. The dr also said that if they can see it in the tubes/ovaries then they'll offer the shot. However if hcg levels are dropping then to let nature take its course.

  • I'm so sorry you're having to go through this. Take care of yourself.
  • I don't care. I stand by what I said. Medically speaking it doesn't make sense at all. I'm done. You all can think as you like, but it is very possible this is a person only looking for attention because according to facts what she says doesn't add up. I'm done.
  • Why would this person make things up for attention. Makes no sense!
Not nice to judge that way.
@rdez wishing you the best luck!

"I'm done." Oh yay! Does that mean you're leaving us now?
I doubt she'll come back knowing people aren't on her side :)
Just an old 'bad apple' with no home to call her own, lurking in the shadows :-)
  • I am also an R.N....in Reproductive Medicine. All of what the original poster stated can happen. I have seen similar scenarios multiple times. Even if you do have doubts, what are the benefits to calling someone out? Seems like a nurse should be well versed in giving people the benefit of the doubt.

Exactly. Very tasteless and clearly not very thought out.

I'm so sorry for your loss OP. Big internet hugs to you.

Just an update: my gp obstetrician called and has been forwarded Sundays US from the hospital and can see a tiny area in the uterus that is not common, she suspects it to be 'placenta that has formed, grown and produced pregnancy hormones, and has then starting to heal away' but wants this verified by a specialist.
  • @rdez - I'm so sorry for what you're going through. I forgot to tell you this as I was so distracted by the bullying comments.
  • Sending you thoughts & prayers during this time!

  • Amen. It's sad to see anyone act that harshly toward someone else...and even worse to know that she's supposed to provide care to others in need.
  • I am so sorry that you are going through this.
  • I'm so sorry for your loss sweetheart. I just lost one at 9 weeks in feb. US showed no heatbeat anymore. Totally devastating. Then the waiting & not knowing & multiple Dr visits reminding you of it all. It's so hard waiting to heal & waiting for the Dr to give the ok to start again. Thoughts & prayers for you...
