Nervous for 20 week scan

I'm 18 weeks 3 days and have my 20 week scan soon. Feeling so nervous about it, haven't felt any major movements yet but keep suffering from ligament pain and back ache. I know little one is probably growing a lot which is causing the uncomfyness but just feeling nervous still. I can't wait to see its tiny body again and find out if boy/girl :) anyone else nervous about their 20 week?

I always get nervous before OB appointments. I have maybe felt movement? Maybe gas maybe baby?
Im sure baby is doing well, I think I will feel a little better once I can feel baby regularly.

  • I won't be having my anatomy scan for another 4 weeks and will be very nervous until I get to see baby for the first time and know everything is developing as it should. I've been feeling movement for a week now and has been increasing in amount and intensity as baby gets bigger. I'm a FTM and the feeling is incredible. I'm 18w 4d. :) don't feel discouraged that you haven't felt movement yet.
  • I feel my son pretty regularly and I hadn't until about 19 weeks.. I just had mine and it went great except they told me his kidneys were a little dilated but it was going to be ok and it happens a lot with boys and usually resolves itself.. But everything else was perfect!! He had a great heart rate and was doing wonderful except he didn't want to be bothered at all.. He just wanted to sleep lol.. He did move once my husband brought me cold water but he looked perfectly healthy the rest of the scan...
  • Mine is on Monday and I'm super nervous! I'm 21 weeks and I'm unsure if I've felt movement. I think I have once but definatly nothing regular. I just want him to be perfectly healthy so badly that I'm worrying myself. Good luck!
  • I haven't felt anything either. I'm just scared I'll get to it they won't find the baby.

I'm so glad you guys feel this way too! I always get so nervous before OB appointments. Like I feel the aches and pains, I'm looking bigger so things must be going well? But still not far enough to feel consist (recognizable?) movement. My parents will be in town for our 20 week scan so of course I feel more pressure, like what if something went wrong?!

I feel a bit guilty because in so excited and love this little baby but have still been pretty guarded and always catch myself when I feel like I'm getting "too attached"....
  • I'm glad I'm not alone in this then! Such a scary experience all this when u can't see the baby all the time, having to wait weeks is a nightmare :( hopefully all will go well for all of us, we may just have lazy/stubborn baby's!
  • @oaksem @oliveoil95 @beckd89 do you guys have a fetal Doppler? I have one and whenever I find myself worrying I use it to find his heartbeat just to make sure everything is ok. If you don't feel anything in the next week or so i would get one because mine has seriously saved my life! I would have gone insane by now!
  • Hi girls I was the same I had mine just last week at 21 weeks...only starting feeling bubbles bursting at 19/20 weeks...I'm now nearly 22 was and proper movements now ...hang in t
  • I've felt her on and off but I am still super nervous for the anatomy scan. I see it as just one more hurtle to get though to make sure everything is fine. Good luck!
  • Same! My 20 week scan is tomorrow morning actually! I've been so nervous because Im not sure if I've felt any movement ( FTM). I ordered a Doppler last week off of Amazon Prime and my anxiety has gone away because I've been listening to my little bebes heartbeat every morning since, but I'm still so worried. It'scomforting knowing I'm not alone in feeling this way. I hope everyone's scans go perfectly!!!
  • I was super nervous too about having mine!! We just had it done Friday, i was 19w3d. I haven't felt any movement either but the tech confirmed I had an anterior placenta so I should feel him in a few weeks more than likely. Everything looked good on our guy and he's weighing in at 12 ounces already(more than what the bump says which 8.5!) during the scan he also looked like he was waving at us, ugghh that made me cry, it was soo incredible!!

I was super nervous to. I feel like I still am a little. I have felt my little booger like crazy & wasn't worried about that so much as all the other things that could of been wrong(ie dilated kidneys, the fluid on the brain, spinal issues, heart issues, cleft palette) like everything you could imagine, i worried about it. As the tech went i asked all the questions i wanted to & she answered. When I asked about cleft palette she said she was not able to answer that and she for plenty of pics for dr so we should be good. I know they shouldn't answer all questions but she did, up until that one. Either way, I'm happy if she does have it, it is fixable but no one wants there baby to have to go through tons of surgeries as soon add they arrive:( my husband thinks I'm crazy with how much I worry but I can't help it! Glad to hear I'm not the only one!
  • @dmiller1213 I haven't got a Doppler yet, got put off by the idea as don't want to become addicted to it :/ but I am considering getting one. I keep trying to think positive though only 10 days now until the scan. I can't wait to ask all the burning questions to the midwife! It's good to know there are a lot of us on the same page and having the same fears, I'm a FTM as well so very nerve wracking!
  • I'm not saying this works but...
I usually eat something sweet (Milano cookies ::yumm::) and give it about 10 minutes. I let my legs hang over the bed (from the knees down) and prop myself up on my elbows and then I move the belly a little trying to wake her up. I give her another minute to two and it's like clock work, there she goes rolling around. I even hold my breath for a second or two and look for movements in my belly.

  • We had an extra scan at 16w6d because we didn't want to wait any longer to find out the gender. At that appointment, we saw that our little man is a tumbler and loves to move a TON. Seeing that helped because I thought I had been feeling things, but it was nice to get the confirmation that I was in fact feeling him since he's such a mover.

That being said, I'm still pretty nervous for the 20w appointment next Monday because I just want him to be healthy.
  • I'm another FTM and I'm so worried about my scan. I'll be 18+3 the day of the scan, which is Tuesday. Thinking good thoughts for all of you!

Question....if it weighs in larger than typical for that week, did they adjust your due date again?
  • I did own a fetal Doppler but I returned it the same day. I couldn't find the heartbeat as it got me scared. I'm not trained for that. I keep telling myself to not worry. Nothing in my pregnancy has told me there is something that could go wrong.
  • The weight is so off. They do measurements and then "guesstimate" a weight. With both my babies they were wayyyy off! My dr said if the date changes over 10 days than they will change the due date.

Whining a little: So... I'm super nervous every for the anatomy scan. I just want everything to be ok. My MIL and sister in law wanted to discuss childcare last night, wanted me final decision. Which was pretty screwed up this far in advance. And then I was cramping and spotting last night. WTF is going on! Doc says it's all good, but jeez can July 2nd get here faster please.

Not that i'm aware of, but my doctor was not in on Friday, I only saw the tech and the NP. The doctor should be reviewing everything today or tomorrow. She didn't mention anything about changing the date. She said for where I was the weight should be anywhere from a half pound to a pound.

  • I am really nervous too.  It doesn't help that mine is going to be late because I am going to be away for 2 weeks.  So we're not getting scanned till 22 weeks. I haven't felt movement but I am also 17 weeks (due Nov 28) so that's normal?  I just wish I could trust more that everything is going okay.  I have no reason to think it's not.

  • Had my scan today and he was kicking like crazy! I couldn't feel it but the tech said I should appreciate the extra sleep I'll get until then bc he's a kicker :) so relived and feel so silly for worrying
  • I think I haven't felt movement yet, either and I'm 18 weeks today. I had an appointment with my midwife his morning and she said I might not feel anything noticeable until week 20 and that my partner might not feel anything external until week 25. You never know! She did put the doppler on me and as soon as she placed it - POW - a kick and then another and then she switched sides and got the heartbeat. A good hearty 160 (exercise makes it faster, after all). Made me cry - happy tears, mind you ;). I'm excited for the ultrasound as we haven't had one yet. 2 more weeks! It'll really be real once I start to show and feel that little one. Thank you all for sharing your news and anxiety. All orbit helps :).
  • I feel the same but get this, my dr is a new one, had the same amazing dr with my other 3 and I miss him :( but this dr is such a flake and scatter brained she said to remind her thursday to schedule my 19 to 20 week ultrasound because she will forget!!! Seriously? I said well I won't forget.
  • @kbonel aw mine is 2nd July as well :) fingers crossed for us both :) X
  • Just had my 20 week scan, I'm not yet 20 weeks so the tech told me ahead of time if she doesn't see something clearly I'd have to go back. Saw the baby & the tech said everything looked great! She wants to see the heart more clearly so I'm going back on the 7 th. Told me it was not unusual at 19 weeks so we are going back but I am relieved everything looked good :) As a bonus we found out baby #2 is another boy!
  • I'm glad yours went well! I have mine in an hour and I'm a freaking nervous wreck!! I just want everything to be okay with them.

Appreciate it while you can't feel them!! I feel my son all the time now and he keeps me up when he's moving around.. My husband tells me he's doing a bedtime dance.. Because he doesn't know it's bed time lol
  • Good luck chads fiancé! Chances are everything will be perfect! Sending you lots of best wishes :)
  • I had my ultrasound last week at 19 weeks and the baby was moving around sooooo much, he is perfectly healthy and everything is normal for me!!! I found out today at my follow up appt that I have an anterior placenta ☺️
  • I have my anatomy scan Thursday afternoon....we have had a scan at 6 weeks and a Amnio at 17 wks. At the Amnio she measured a full week behind and today at my midwives appt I had a fundal height of 24 cms! So hurry Thursday please! Good luck ladies! This is #5 and it never gets easier, I'll worry until I see her face and can hold her! :x

I was super nervous before my anatomy scan too. I was seriously shaking and felt like I could vomit or pass out at anytime. I always get nervous before them, but for some reason this time was worse. With my first baby, my now 5 year old son, we found out that he had a cleft lip/palate at my anatomy scan so going through that has opened my eyes that something could potentially be wrong and it is terrifying. Everything was fine though and baby is completely healthy. Try to stay calm, worrying does nothing, and I hope everything is fine.

  • Getting mine today , I'm 19 w 2 d. I'm pretty excited it's my first time to see the little one, I've just heard the heartbeat with Doppler so far:) I've been feeling a lot of movement, but it's also my second pregnancy:)
  • Good luck to all who have upcoming scans! I'm 2.5w away from my 2nd A/S (baby was lazy so they couldn't get all the necessary photos the first time) - not that I'm counting ;)
  • I'm 20 weeks today and can't feel any movement. Got my scan on Friday and super nervous. I worry constantly and its not in my nature to worry really. I never imagined I'd be like this at all. I'm totally naggy all the time as well. I've snapped at a few people in work
  • Had my scan this morning.  I was full of nerves since the tech can't say anything during the scan except point out parts.  After waiting for the doctor, all is perfect!  Yay!  I obviously feel a huge sense of relief and we got the cutest picture of his little feet.  Good luck to all of you ladies who are still patiently waiting!! :):)

  • Very nervous too. Very worried that they find something wrong with baby. My daughter had a lot of health issues last year before and after she was born and she ended up passing away at 2 months, so I am very fearful that something could be wrong with this baby. We found out we're having another girl and beyond excited. We just hope all is well. I've felt her move occasionally and can't wait till its more consistent. July 7th is my anatomy scan!
My DH and I are expecting our first child! A boy.. we're thrilled :)http://www.thebump.com/profiles/kestes946/settings/avatar/index# BabyFruit Ticker BabyName Ticker Anniversary Baby Birthday Ticker Ticker
