Re: W. T. F.

  • That's odd. I've gotten about 4 boxes but they were all mailed. I am thankful to have them in case there is a time I just can't BF or feel like she needs something more.

SAMs club gives out the best samples.. Had some the other day! I wish people would give me samples of formula and such.

ETA: op I think your over reacting.

We got to Sams too late yesterday to get any samples!!!! :( All I got was a rice krispie treat out of the free oroduct machine they had for the day...you have no idea the disappointment!!!
  • Formula is expensive. A lot of families could benefit from free samples. Send it to my house!
  • Just donate it to a shelter for someone who needs it!
  • "I literally just had some stranger in an unmarked, unidentified SUV park across the highway from my house in a completely rural area and leave a starter kit/sample box of formula on my doorstep."

I don't care what anyone says about "free samples", this is effin creepy.
Want to mail me something? Whatever. I'll donate it if I don't want it.
But to come to my home in an unmarked car and leave something on my doorstep like this? No. No No No.

As a PP said, sometimes mail carriers use rentals if they are down a truck. FedEx uses a Budget rental truck around here sometimes.

I happen to think its inappropriately intrusive to deliver anything to your home in that manner. I like free samples. I wouldn't be upset it was formula, but I really don't like random people showing up on my property to give me unsolicited things. That's what the mailbox is for. I think it's getting creepy these days the way companies market. I had a miscarriage previously and I kept getting samples of formula in the mail that would make me upset for a while every time I'd get one. I even tried calling to stop it, but it never stopped. I had never signed up for anything baby related or any registries at that point, so who knows how they knew. I think it's creepy.

Even The Bump shares your info...so if you had signed up for that, that may be how.
  • I got this in the mail the other day from enfamil. I got a couple of boxes like that when pregnan with my first. Join enfamil family beginnings and similac strong moms! They also send coupons for prenatal vitamins (recently got the similac brand for free because of said coupon ) and other vitamins for kids. Both companies mail samples often full size ones! I usually breastfeed as well but there were a few times I didn't pack enough frozen breast milk(aka growth spurt!) and my care giver needed something so I always kept a thing or two of ready to go formula in my diaper bag for instances like that.

Yeah, FedEx threw me for a loop the first time until I realized what it was...but I don't think formula companies are on some secret service type of mission stalking pregnant women at their homes...mailing out samples in hopes you like them, sure, but I think it ends there with samples and coupons. The mailman probably just naturally puts larger packages on the front step.
  • I have gotten 8 pm deliveries from an old creepy van before from Amazon. They must contract deliveries out sometimes, but I really do think home deliveries should be in marked commercial vehicles. At least stick a sticker on the side of the car!

I don't disagree with this...but I think getting up in arms because you were given a FREE sample of formula with no obligations is extreme. Especially since containersvof infant formula can run you $20-30 each....just give it away if you don't need it or want it! Heck, there are plenty of druggies who would also take it from you gladly....they steal that stuff by the cartload....literally!
  • I can understand the OP point, formula aside it is a bit weird to have free samples received in that manner. These days you can never be too careful, unfortunately there are disturbed people out there that want to cause harm to others for no other reason than to be sadistic. We've all heard news reports of su h issues. I would be a little upset as well, but also I know that these days all my info is passed around to various companies so I expect it. Hopefully you have a better day and hopefully there won't be anymore unsolicited stuff for you. Take care mama!

OP was ready to send in the national guard she was so offended. Life is too short to be so nit picky. She was so pissed, she came on an Internet forum to complain and get mad at all of us. I find that odd. Throw the crap away and get a no soliciting sign. Problem solved.

  • It's really not a big deal OP. Maternity stores and baby stores are notorious for selling info. Who is more likely to buy something based on a sample than a mom? I got the same package from Enfamil one of the PP posted and while my first thought was, "Where did this come from?" my second thought was, "Sweet. If BFing doesn't work out, then I have a free package of formula on hand." Free samples and a plethora of emails are all expected when you're pregnant or a new mom. Embrace the experience of getting a TON of free stuff while it lasts.

Same!! Where is my free shiz?! Is this cause I didn't register at BRU or Buy Buy Baby?
  • If having a can of formula in the house is going to change your made up mind or "thwart you efforts" to breastfeed then maaaaybe you need to rethink things a little. I highly highly highly reccomend you go WWW.fearlessformulafeeder.com and read some stories about women who went through hell trying to breastfeed and that can of formula literally saved sanity and lives. Feeding your baby is best. Breast or formula. Get some perspective :-)
I can see (a little) your frustration at not knowing where it came from though.
  • I got that same package from enfamil the other day and as a FTM was really excited because they had a whole booklet in it as well and the boom had an entire section on breastfeeding, supplementing, and weaning....sure doesnt seem like they are trying to deter me from breastfeeding by sending me samples as advertising. You seemed very mad about that part as well, but most I have gotten thus far talk about breastfeeding as well....just saying
  • Bahahaha @thesportsgal wins. Hands down.

Yes, that one literally made me LOL

Seriously? You think sadistic people drive around just waiting to put a free box of formula on your porch when really it's a box of human heads?

And if you're that worried, then you should have a no soliciting sign. I hope OP DOES get more free samples, as this has turned out quite hilarious.
Not a box of human heads, but I've seen news reports of people leaving razor blades in playgrounds on purpose, I've seen reports of people intentionally trying to poison others by injecting chemicals, rat poison, etc into food products, I've read reports of disturbed people leaving so called free samples of products that have been altered to cause harm to the recipient. Its a crazy world and it's better to be more cautious, heck even paranoid, about certain things.
  • I just re read this whole thread and I'm curious.... if the unmarked vehicle was parked across the highway how does she even know they were the ones at her house? Were they watching her to make sure she picked up the package? Did she see them drop a package off somewhere? If it's a rural neighborhood but across a highway how does she know it's not someone visiting a family in that neighborhood? Just random questions that I thought of while reading. Carry on. Also someone send me free stuff! No fair!

Seriously DYING. Can't. Stop. Laughing. I don't think I've laughed so hard since the Pregnancy Brian post way back in Dec or Jan. (which was still a hilarious typo)

OP I just got a sample of whatever was posted above as well. We BF or pump for quite awhile depending on each kiddo's unique circumstance, but I wasn't offended or weirded out in the least,. All of our due dates are close, it's prob just through a registry (BRU?). They didn't target you specifically and really, I think you are overreacting a tad. It's not like some rep was knocking on your door wasting your time trying to convince you to use formula.
