Im 21 weeks and the thought of doing highlights although I really really want it, makes me feel guilty. I'm a FTM and I'm so unsure of it. Any other mommies highlight their hair during pregnancy?
Totally fine. You can highlight or dye your hair. I keep up with mine during pregnancy no problem. The only thing is sometimes the color isn't quite the same as when your not pregnant. I haven't had that issue but I know some people do.
I've done at-home hair color and had my hair colored in a salon while pregnant. Haven't done highlights, but I don't see why that would be a problem if you can get all over color.
Hairstylist here. Highlights go in foil packets that do not touch your scalp. There is no way that color/bleach on hair that is dead once it grows out of there scalp can get into your bloodstream or affect a fetus . Highlights are often a great often for pregnant women who are worried about coloring their hair .
As others said, I think highlights are better because they don't touch your scalp. I had my hair dyed at 14 weeks. Being in the salon though kind of made me sick because of all the fumes so I haven't been back.
I got highlights around 16 or 17 weeks. The stylist told me the same, it's better to get highlights because the bleach/color doesn't actually touch the scalp.
I had mine done, but i do believe the hormones affected the color. I've had the same girl do the same things with my hair for awhile now and it's airways been perfect, this is the first time it's gone really wonky. (My highlights turned several lovely shades of yellow and orange lol)
Every time I see this post, I want to get my hair done I am due for a cut and highlight, so it keeps reminding me to make my appointment! I highlighted during my first pregnancy (just twice) and I will this time, too. OB had no issue with it!
Re: Highlights during pregnancy
My hairdresser has four kids and she colored her hair and obviously other people's hair while pregnant. Just make sure the room is well ventilated.
