Lets just call it awkward

Tmi: I've had diahrrea 3 times today. Im 21wks 5days along, and other than a small headache and being tired, I feel fine. Still have an appetite. My mom thinks I should call my midwife, who I feel will just tell me to co e in, but I live 2+ hours from them. What would you do? I was assuming it was maybe out of whack hormones, but now im a little concerned.

  • Forgot to mention...baby is moving fine. A lot actually.

  • Try the BRAT diet today and see if that slows the bowels down a bit. You may have a little intestinal bug making it's way out but unless your feeling contractions I wouldn't worry

My first and always answer- if you feel something is wrong call your midwife! You know your body better than anyone else! Strangers on the internet can't diagnosis you from just reading a few sentences and we don't know your medical history or current situation! When truly in doubt or concerned call your midwife or doctor- it's what you pay them for!

That being said. If you are drinking plenty of fluids and basically feel fine otherwise, could just be you ate something funky. It happens. Me personally, I'd watch the clock and be aware of the latest time you could call and make it to see the midwife and I'd wait. Drink water, eat some dry toast, rest and see if it settles down or if new symptoms come up.
If you have a fever or uterine cramping or bleeding call your midwife ASAP!
Otherwise, I'd probably just wait and see.

    Good luck!
  • Eh, it happens. I'm not sure my midwives would call me in over diarrhea unless it persisted for a couple days or i felt bad. But they know I'm hand's off. I had a tummy bug a couple days ago and did the brat diet and rested and felt better. Lately it's one extreme or the other so i was slightly relieved to have to go extra that day.
  • With the small headache you could just be a little dehydrated. I usually have stomach issues when I am but that's just my history. If you feel fine otherwise I don't think I'd worry about it unless it keeps up for more than a day or two.

Could you call and say you don't want to come all the way in but you want them to be aware?
  • I had awful diahrea for days and my ob didn't have me come in. I said I had been drinking tons of fluids. She said eat bananas and come in if I started feeling dehydrated or if I was no longer able to keep down water. Diahrea can be a normal symptom of pregnancy.
  • Thanks everyone! I wasnt concerned, but I have anxiety issues so as soon as she mentioned seeing the midwife I started freaking out a little. I am feeling a little better. Will feel great when the husband gets home to entertain the other two kiddos ;)

I have had loose stools for about two months. Told my ob and she chalked it up to how much fruit, dry fruit, nuts, and water I have been consuming. I notice the days I drink less water and eat less fruit it gets more solid. She says if it becomes uncontrollable and doesn't look normal to let her know. Maybe that will help
