This might sound weird, but have you named your fetus?

So right when we found out we were pregnant, we didn't like calling the embryo "it" because it sounds so 'removed'. And we didn't want to call him/her by a real baby name that we liked just incase of a loss. So since 5 weeks, we've been calling the baby "Fedor" (Fedor the fetus, it has a fun ring to it, and DH and I are huge MMA fans). Now we're about to be 12 weeks, and we did the first trimester screening and the fetus looks like a real baby now, so I tried thinking of him/her with one of our chosen baby names and it's kind of difficult. Please don't tell me I'm going to end up with a child named Fedor! Has anyone else come up with a "temporary" name for the babies they're growing?

  • I refer to my bloat bump as "Baby Cakes". No idea why but it came out one day and since we are like an eternity away from knowing the gender I am sticking with it for awhile. My DH just says "the baby", apparently Baby Cakes isn't for him lol. I think when the time is right your baby will get it's real name!

My DH did. It is a long story but he calls the baby Baby Doodles. Everyone is now calling it Baby Doodles.

DH calls the baby Booba or Munchkin. Each morning when I leave for work he tells me "Drive safe, have as good a day as you can and take care of our little "Booba". I won't leave until he says it lol.

We called our first baby blasto until we found out she was a girl. We were actually a bit sad when we found out and gave her a real name. I had a hard time using her real name at first because it seemed too big for her.
  • We call ours Squishy. It got started because pretty much as soon as we got married my sister started asking for a "squishy" that she could spoil. It just kind of stuck. And now my sister is over the moon excited that she's finally getting her wish to be an aunt.
  • We call ours our little "blobby" because that's what it looked like on our 8 week ultrasound haha. I'm sure it'll change depending on how it looks on the latest scans. I called my friends baby "hamster" for a while because that's what he looked like!
  • Depending on the US, we've called LO peanut, nugget and gummy bear. Now I just refer to myself as "we" haha.

We have one of those 50,001 baby name books, and it was crazy some of the absolutely ridiculous names in it.  Our favorite was Schmoopy, so that's what our little fig is called, at least for now.  I'm also wondering how I will switch to a real name when the time comes, Schmoopy's actually growing on me now :)
  • Hubby and I call our LO Poppy!
  • We call ours Elvis because my grandfather loves Elvis and told us we are due on Elvis' birthday. (Jan. 8) I keep saying, "Elvis is hungry (sleepy, cranky, whatever)." Ha-ha!
    Married- 7/17/10
     Baby #1- "L.J."- 3/14/12
    Expecting  #2- EDD 1/8/16
"Life ain't always beautiful, but it's a beautiful ride"

  • Me and my partner just call the baby our baby plain and simple till we find out the sex!
  • We called my DD "Flipper". On U.S. She had what looked like flippers, so it stuck. My son was just "it" and so far so is this one. Poor kids, the first one gets everything haha
  • My husband calls it fetus...I don't really have a nickname for it yet. I just kind of call it "him" a lot. We don't know the sex yet but I am sticking with "him" for a while. :)
  • My friend had nicknamed their daughter "Gills" back when they first learned his wife was expecting. Months after her birth they were still having a hard time calling her by her "real" name.
  • I call my baby a whole list of things.
He, it (it'll just slip out I don't like it though), blip (50 shades reference) , baby.... Depends on my mood I'll refer to baby as that.

I refer to mine as little peanut :\">
  • Our first was jellybean, weird thing after we had our son was jellybean and his real name felt like 2 separate babies. This one is gumdrop.

  • My DH went with me for the 1st ultrasound. I thought I might cry but instead I laughed the whole time like a crazy woman while he just grinned like an idiot. We went back out to the waiting room still doing the same thing. When we sat down he finally spoke first: "Yay, we have a pine cone!" So yeeeeah, pine cone.
  • My husband calls me Monkey as a nickname.... so our little baby has been dubbed "mini monkey" :)
  • For my 10 weeks appointment, my OBGYN referred to the baby as a gummy bear. So ever since, my boyfriend and I refer to it as 'Our Gummy bear.'
  • My nephew named my first baby potato chip , "chip" for short. I'll let him name this one too
  • We called it just "baby" until we hit our 8 week mark. It was measuring the size of a raspberry. So we started calling it "Raspberry".
Now I'm almost 11 weeks and it's bigger than a raspberry but the nickname has stuck. Raspberry.
  • Lollipop.. My sister named the babe and I like it!!
  • We use whatever size fruit it is that week, so from poppyseed to fig - we've used them all! I can't wait for next week. I LOVE limes.
  • When I was about five weeks pregnant I had a really horrible pregnancy nightmare where my husband and his fictional mistress were trying to steal the baby. They were calling the baby Jasper. Once I was able to calm down and actually laugh about the absurdity of the whole dream, we started calling him/her Jasper until we actually pick a name.
  • We call ours dancing baby because of how much he was dancing at the second ultrasound. Lil baby had the best moves!
  • We refer to ours as Sea Monkey.

That's what we are doing! This week is raspberry. Can't wait to find out his/her new name on Sunday for week 9!

We called our first Baby Bean before we found out the gender, we're doing the same with this one for now. We called our son Little Man or Baby Boy once we found out his gender, before we were set on a name.
