At Home Doppler Review

Hi mamas :) I am just over the moon excited and had to share...I'm 9wks, a FTM, and nervous about everything. I don't "feel" pregnant which makes me worry. To calm my nerves, I got a Hi Bebe fetal Doppler and it was delivered today.

I told myself I wasn't going to try it until I was 11 weeks because I was afraid 9wks was too early to find a heartbeat on an at-home Doppler and I'd prob freak out if I couldn't find it....BUT... I was weak and tried it out tonight anyways. I had a full (now I mean FULL) bladder and I listened to an angelic heartbeat of 165-170 for a minute or two...ahhhh as a worrier, it was sheer bliss! :)

I am POSITIVE it was the babies heartbeat and not my own blood flow. I watched this super helpful YouTube tutorial and read lotsa tips before I tried it out. For those on the fence about getting one, I totally recommend it! Ahh it is THEE best experience :) just thought I'd share! I read there are a lot of great at-home dopplers out there!

  • I have the sonoline Doppler. I used it with my last pregnancy and loved it. It gives numbers and a heart shows up when registering real sounds lol. My dr just found the heartbeat above my pubic bone so start really low. I haven't got it out this time around yet.

I watched the same video! Convinced me to buy one and try it out. I got a little $25 amazon one and at 10wks, there it was! Beautiful :)

@kkfl2m+b I did it with a full bladder and found it after 2 minutes, I probably just got lucky though! Good luck :):)

I have an older dr. office one from my dad who was an OB so I'm no help with brands, but here are a few tips:
-Watch some YouTube videos to see where you should start looking (it's probably lower than you thought)
-make sure you are listening to the baby's heartbeat, not yours. It's much faster
-it may take awhile to find, be patient
-please don't freak out if you can't find the heartbeat. Unless you are having true miscarriage signs, give it a break and try again later. It's hard to consistently find it in the early weeks

    Good luck!!

Whoops, sorry wrong Doppler thread . Sorry!!

To OP, Yes it's a great sound!! Congrats!!

  • I tried mine at exactly 10 weeks. I find that I can't find it when I wake up in the morning unless I eat something first. All women and all babies are different. Try it on an empty stomach/bladder, then a full one, etc. Find out when it's best to hear it. I found that if I lay on my back, my hip bones kind of pop out, that's approximately how low I have to look to find the baby. Keep trying ladies. It is the best sound once you find it. And you'll hear what sounds like a horse galloping (so you don't mistake it for anything else.)
  • And I cannot ever find it when I don't use the gel. If your doppler didn't come with a gel, you can use aloe gel. GEL not lotion. (:
  • Thanks @jennywilli I think I'm going to purchase one. How much was it?

I purchased a sonoline b Doppler for $37(free shipping) from eBay. I absolutely love it!! I'm 12wks4days and started using it at 12wks. I've had no problem finding my babies heartbeat and I love that my SO can participate as well :\">
  • I bought the Sonoline Fetal Doppler this week. I'm 10 wks 4days..anyways we could hear the baby's heart beat! I love hearing our little jelly bean and so does my hubby :)
  • Does anybody know about this specific Doppler?image

@xxarlannaxx I just got this in the mail on Friday off of amazon for $25! Works perfectly so far :) would def recommend it!
  • I found mine this pregnancy 8 weeks and 4 days. Now a week later still finding it and with my spotting I have its such a life saver! I love love love having it ;)
  • Took me forever to find mi ne I'm 9 weeks 3 days.. I was losing hope confusing my heartbeat with the babys FINALLY this morning very very low under my pelvic bone on the right hand side I heard my heartbeat super strong then babys echoing in the background sounding like a galloping horse 166 bpm I was over the moon happy! Remember ladies we are still early on and some home doppler can't pick up baby til 11 weeks so be patient and don't freak out like me.. lol
  • @xxarlanaxx That's the one I have as well - works great!

  • Hi! Just received my sonolineb! I was able to find the heartbeat but the Doppler couldn't quite calculate it. It was definitely super fast, but baby was right at pelvic bone, I'm 10 weeks 2 days, is that where usually baby is still at this early?
  • I want to get one but my husband doesn't see the point. Pretty soon, if he doesn't give in, I'm just going to order it because it's not very expensive and once we have it, he'll love to be able to hear the heartbeat whenever.
  • YAY I got my doppler last night!! It took me an hour to finally find it. I was right underneath my belly button. I kind of had to press down hard to get it but it was beating fast so I knew instantly I had found it. BUT, I only heard one, so tonight I have to go home after work and search for the other. I need to mark each one because I won't be completely satisfied until I hear both of our babies. Anyone else carrying twins and used the doppler? I have the sonoline fetal doppler.

My hubby said the same thing. The doc had a hard time locating baby with the doppler at the office so he's worried I'll just search myself into a panic if I get one of my own. I really want one though! My next appt isn't until the 8th and I'd really love to just do a check in. Not sure if I'm just going to order it anyway or not.
  • I got mine today, and tried, with no luck.  I looked everywhere, slowed down, everything.  One thing I don't think I have was a full bladder, but I will try that out next.  I heard mine an awful lot though!!

  • I couldn't find mine. 12w4d searched for 30 min with a full bladder and an empty bladder just in case. I heard my own heartbeat and the placenta lol will try again soon
  • I'm in the same boat. 12w1d and that's all I can hear! I'm so frustrated!
  • I tried again once I got home and found both of them!!!! This time it only took 15 mins. Keep trying ladies. Go super low, at the line of your public hair. That's where I found 1. The other was that far down but to the right. Near my public bone.

  • I lay down and look at where my hip bones pop out, that's how low in my tummy where I heard the heartbeat. I went to my OB today and she said she doesn't recommend dopplers only because some anxious moms can confuse your own heartbeat with the baby's, but so far I haven't. It sounds similar in sound, but not in speed at all. She found mine way off to one side and baby was right in the middle. I've heard it before so it was cool having it "finalized" by my doctor.
  • Auto correct wasn't my friend. I pubic, of course lol

  • So far, no luck with the Sonoline B, but I'm only 10 weeks today. I  think I'll stop using it until about 12 weeks, then maybe it will be easier to detect.

I'm having twins and have the same Doppler. I've been told as long as you can find one of the heartbeats the other is probably ok too. It's hard to find both at this point. The very first time I used it I tried to find both and drove myself crazy. Now I'm just happy if I find one. Waiting for my ultrasound Tuesday to make sure both are ok.
