Pads for after birth

ok.. So do we need the thick pads after birth or are the thin overnight pads ok??

Re: Pads for after birth

  • I got thick ones. The always maxi pad heavy flow overnight ones. They were recommended and I'd rather be safe than sorry. Plus I don't think DH wants to go out and have to buy that lol

  • I would get the thick ones to just to be safe :)
  • Thick...there's a lot of blood for a little while.
  • How many should we buy?
  • Usually hospitals give big thick pads.. And they send you home with some. So I wouldn't buy any huge ones just yet.. But the overnight (such as always) are perfect for when the bleeding slows down. I just keep downgrading with the flow. (Hehe go with the flow)
Having a c section, the first 3 days in the hospital I use the thick ones, then the next 3 days I used regular pads.. Overnights at night.. And then panty liners. Major plus of c section, there's not much bleeding!
  • As for vaginal birth... I bled for like 2 weeks... And used the big pads for what seemed forever.. But I had enough from the hospital.. They sent me home with like 50 of them. Lol
  • I bought thick ones 2 packs with my first pregnancy I bled heavy for the 1st 3 weeks it's got lighter after that and they do give you some to take home from hospital
  • I intend to get as many obnoxious hospital pads as possible, and have stocked my home supply with extra long super absorbent thin pads. Keeping my fingers crossed!
  • Go with the thick overnight ones, I prefer the Always (or Walmart's Equate version) that is "fanned out" in the back for at least the first few days postpartum.

  • If you want something bigger go with some depends! I plan on doing that because tons of ladies on here recommend them for after birth!

Well I'm just over a week postpartum and I have found that personally for me the thin ones work just fine. The hospital should send you home with some. Once you can see how much your bleeding then I would go and pick some out h
  • I got thick ones from the hospital and they put which hazel pads in it like a subway sandwich (haha gross) but it felt soooooo good & cold! I had stitches & at first they put ice in a hospital glove too. felt like sitting in a big soggy diaper but it felt like heaven at the same time haha I did it for the first few days when I was home. just wear biiiiig underwear to keep it all in. someone suggested freezing the pads a bit too & eliminating the ice packs. worked for me! I will definitely be doing it again this time around!
