Hi everyone! I've always had bad skin, but it's even worse since I've been pregnant. Does anyone have a good safe acne routine they could suggest? I don't feel the "glow" I'm supposed to lol
1. wear freshly-squeezed lemon juice as a masque for an hour three times each week. it will sting when you first apply it. the vitamin c will promote new cell growth at an amazing speed! discoloration and acne scars will disappear; your skin will smooth and tighten.
2. wet your face first, then apply unpasteurized honey as a masque. water + honey release a gentle hydrogen peroxide, which kills the aerobic bacteria that cause flareups. honey also softens your skin.
every day:
1. use a super-gentle cleanser in the evenings only. i prefer neutrogena's transparent facial bar soap. you must use something whose residue washes away completely. wet your face with warm water and allow your pores to open. soap up. (i use a clarisonic but i don't know if it helps.) rinse gently with warm water. rinse gently with cold water to close the pores.
2. mist your face with alcohol-free witch hazel. (you can use the witch hazel postpartum, too!) thayer's brand is great. the witch hazel will tighten your pores. don't rub it in or dry it off, but instead, immediately --
3. apply a serum or an oil. i swear by 'suki's balancing serum.' it's incredibly expensive but very, very potent. i sometimes use organic sesame oil (youthing strategies brand) or evening primrose oil instead. the trick here is to massage the oil into the witch hazel (toner), which will thin it out and help it soak in. an oil will mimic your skin's natural sebum. your skin will sense that it has oil on it already, so it won't produce more sebum of its own.
4. you can use a moisturizer on top of this for wrinkles if you'd like. if you're experiencing new breakouts, i would omit unnecessary products like moisturizer for awhile.
5. only rinse your face with warm water in the morning. no need to revisit this routine.
6. use minimal makeup.
if you don't use the lemon juice masque, you've got to manually exfoliate your face (with a towel -- but be gentle!) after you shower, about every other day. dead skin cells clog pores and lead to acne.
I had terrible acne in the beginning, and kind of always have not just pregnancy related. What finally worked for me was stop using all the harsh face washes. I use a bar of soap it is called basis, I would look at your local pharmacy if you can't find it you can order it online or some other people reccommended dove but I never tried it. The basis is super mild and gentle. I was my face morning and night with it and use cetaphil face lotion. All super mild. My face has never looked better. I really believe my face was breaking out because of the over kill of products I was putting on it. I know it doesn't seem like much but maybe give it a try. Also there is the apple cider vinegar thing which made my face look like I was a crack head picking stuff out of my face. No joke I looked the most terrible I ever have. Good luck!
I had horrible acne in the beginning months, someone on here suggested just using regular antibacterial hand soap as a face wash. It has worked wonders! I honestly can't believe it. It dried out the oil and the acne is very minimal now. If at all. It's easy and worth a shot
Using an all natural bentonite clay mask has worked wonders on my skin! You can get it at most health food stores, and you just mix a equal parts of the clay with Braggs organic apple cider. Cheap and amazing. Def read up on the benefits of using a bentonite clay mask.
I find the less I do to my face the better. I just use make up removing wipes and wash off the residue from them and use a spot correcting lotion with 15 spf.
no acne yet- I use burts bees for sensitive skin mixed with baking soda to exfoliate. I've always had incredibly sensitive skin so this has always been my routine- it hasn't helped much in the way of blackhead removal but it has definitely prevented pimples and breakouts.
I've also been staying away from the makeup (aside from picture days like the baby shower) and moisturizing with burts bees or cetaphil.
