Silver nitrate--5 weeks PP and still in a ton of pain

Hi new mommies! I had my baby 5 weeks ago and am in so much pain still "down there". Doc told me I had granulation tissue and they needed to cauterize the skin with silver nitrate. I went in last week to get it done and was told I might have to do it again this week. I'm sick thinking about it because it hurt so much the first time. Has anyone else had this issue? I'm hoping this isn't something I have to do for several weeks for it to heal. Next week is supposed to be the "clear all" for sex and exercise--I don't see either of these in my near future and feeling pretty sad about it.

  • I had this done. Ask if they can numb you with Lidocaine gel first. They did for me and it didn't hurt at all. She also said that it may have been because I had scar tissue which doesn't have nerves.
I felt much better after having it done, but I'm pretty sure I'll need another treatment this week. I'm six weeks out today, and still a total mess. I don't think I'll be cleared for sex for several weeks :( Recovery is the worst.

Thanks for replying. I'm glad I'm not the only one. I just got my second treatment today. Hoping I don't have to do another next week. How many treatments have you had so far? Did the doctor say how many you'll need before you're healed?
  • I got my second one today too. She thought the first one helped me heal quite a bit, but she didn't tell me how many more - I have another appointment in a week and a half to see if I'll need more. The one today hurt a little more and is still stinging a few hours later, but it's better than getting more stitches!
I'm hoping I'll be totally healed in a few weeks. I want to go swimming and start having sex again argh!!!
    Good luck!
  • I had this done this week and the doctor didn't mention having to do it a second time. It hurt like hell so I hope I won't need to. Have all of you recovered from it fully?
