1st Birthday Party Plans!

Has anyone started to plan LO's first birthday party? I wasn't giving it much thought until we were at a 1st birthday party this weekend and it got me a little excited to plan!

Re: 1st Birthday Party Plans!

  • Nothing yet here. I keep going between wanting to do something with a theme and just being simple. My husbands family will bevhere from Brazil so I sorta want to make it a little bit bigger deal but not go overboard. I definitely want some of those first birthday cake pictures though :)

I am also going back and forth between only close family party or a huge party. I am also looking forward to those first birthday cake pictures!

  • We're doing a family party here. I'm thinking of doing a Curious George theme. And most likely grilling.

What are you ladies doing for a smash cake? (If any)

  • I've been so excited about this. We are doing a ONEderland theme. We'll also be incorporating some of the Korean traditions for my husbands family.

  • @mindfulmama14 I love the idea of a smash cake like a rite of passage :) Thinking I might just do cupcakes and give him one to keep the mess a little smaller!
  • I am just sticking with a color theme (pink and gold) and my husband says she HAS to have a tiara on her cake (LOL). Right now I'm struggling with the guest list. With family only we have 109 and that's just absolutely crazy. Still trying to figure out how to decide who to invite and who to leave out if any.
  • Small party for my little guy. Maybe hungry caterpillar theme. I'm a big fan of cupcakes. There's never any leftovers. We always have kept our birthday parties small and intimate, even with big Sis.
  • We will be doing a party with extended family and close friends. It has the potential to get pretty big because I have a really big family, and my dh's family has quite a few. I think it will probably be about 75 people. We are going to have a bbq at my dad's house. We are doing a princess theme, with cupcakes frosted together to look like a princess dress. I am doing a little diy photo booth, and my cousin is renting us a bounce house since there are going to be a bunch of kids there. Already it has gotten a little (or a lot) bigger than anticipated.....

We are doing a smash cake for sure!  I can't decide on a theme but I have a lot of stuff "pined".   DH and I both have small immediate families with LO being one of two kids, so I'd like to invite extended family and friends to get some other kids there.   Kids make a birthday party!    We were invited to a birthday party for another kid at daycare, should we invite them to ours?
  • We've chosen a theme, I've made a few decorations but that's it and planned te menu but that's it. I still have lots more decorations to make, pictures to take, have to figure out what to give out for favours etc. We haven't even settled on a date but I'm planning to get invited out in the next couple of weeks so we've got a lot to do!!
  • We have chosen a theme and have the invites ready! Made decorations and taken 1 year old pics! I'm a planner so I like to have things as ready as can be! We will be doing a shmash cake for sure!!!

  • We are doing a ballerina theme, but it'll be just a small BBQ party. I'm really excited because I'm making all of her decorations and I created her invitations. We pretty much have all of the big stuff ready. I know, I'm way ahead, but I have organizational OCD.
  • I have decided just do a small family gathering at my house with cake smash and yummy treats nothing big :) dully depends what you would like though as its just as much for you as it is baby! Its a big step!

I am planning for a Carousel Cake and Cinderella Theme. I still have lot more to do like invitations, decoration, need to plan for menu, games and return gifts :-/ I have just gone though it https://www.thebump.com/a/first-birthday ... very interesting.
  • We are planning a nautical theme :) with family and friends. Still deciding if we want a lunch or appetizer time party.
  • I am attempting to do an I AM Banner for LO high chair, but does anyone know how to secure it on there?
  • I'm excited too!  We've got just less than 2 months until his first birthday. I haven't started planning yet though exactly.
  • I'm making awesome progress! Ordered some chalkboard markers online so when they come in I'll start writing the headings on his chalkboard. I got a bunch of pictures printed and glued them to a string of banners in chronological order. Invites are printed and ready to go out, menu is planned. Now I just have to learn to control the weather!!
  • My little guy is turning one on August 20 and I am also planning a party with friends and family. Not too big. But I have a big family. ;) I'm thinking of making it an outside event since it'll still be warm, and already asked a friend to do the cake. The theme? Mexican! I am not Mexican , but my son LOVES watching a show called 'Hungry Henry' on baby TV. And it's quite cute! Good luck with the planning!
  • @mely0420 We're Aug 20th as well for our son!

Are you having people RSVP to your party?
  • We are having a hockey themed bday party August 1. He will be one on the 10th. Mostly just adults/family are invited. We dont have friends with kids. So i setting up a concession stand ams serving nachos, hot dogs, etc. i am making my LO a sugar free organic carrot cake :) he loves carrots!
  • We are doing a circus themed party. We have a community pool so kids can swim. I'm ordering sandwiches and sides to make it easier. We will have covered picnic tables and it's located next to a playground. Afterwards we will go inside the clubhouse for cake and dessert. I'm borrowing a snow cone maker and cotton candy machine from a friend. There will be lots of kids and we decided to get a balloon twister. It'll be around 40 kids/adults but my husband and I used to throw a lot of parties pre-kids. I'm looking toward to celebrating his first birthday.

How are the birthday party plans coming?  What are you serving for food? I can't decide.
  • Our party is a hockey theme so we are doing a concession stand and serving: nachos, hot dogs, candies, pasta salad, fruit.
  • We're doing it super easy...party platters, salad, and ordering a cake. I'll make a small, healthy cake for lo to "smash".
