I'll just say I'm dying for a Wegmans sub (it's a New York thing) loaded up with turkey meat, cheese, sub oil, etc. also, I couldn't help but go to Heids yesterday for a coney...and it was soo dang good!!!

Omg. I'll pay whatever it costs for you to get me a Wegmans sub (Eta: I'm in Washington state). It's been so many years... *drool*

I've been in the "eat whatever stays down" camp. I avoided a few things at first, which had the boy rolling his eyes. He reminded me that women have managed to have children for a rather long time throughout history without some crazy food safety lists, just like he could guarantee that other countries weren't following them. (Soft cheeses, tea, sushi, etc, things that are staples elsewhere.) my stomach has a handle on things, anytime I've eaten something questionable it has instantly rejected it and I've thrown it up immediately, so if it sounds good and I keep it down, then I'm rolling with it.

Here's one thing i will say though. Be careful with ALL foods. Because anything can spoil if you don't care for it properly. Keep meat on the bottom shelf of the fridge. Toss expired food religiously. Don't hoard the fridge. Shop lightly and frequently, that sort of thing.

Also... the biggest culprits of food borne illness are raw vegetables. Most fresh foods are a haven for parasites and bacteria. So does that mean you'll eat nothing but processed foods? Which are TERRIBLE for you, period?

    Come on now...
  • I've had sushi once or twice eeek! :) Nobody is perfect!
  • I grew up in a farming community and not too long ago someone got listeria from our cantaloupes. It was so ridiculous. Wash your fruits and veggies peeps! :)

I absolutely hate sandwiches so I'm okay with not eating deli meats. My OB was very lenient when it came to foods. The only thing she was very strict on was sushi. But I'm sure a Cali roll once a month won't hurt!
  • You can pry my Jimmy John's and coffee from my cold, dead hands. And I had the occasional half-glass of beer or wine with my first, who is totally fine, so I'm planning on doing that again if/when it sounds good (currently does not, so that's easy).

Honestly, I'm way more worried about food being left out too long or mishandled some other way than I am about contracting something from a runny egg yolk. And runny yolks rock.
  • I take bites of cookie dough when baking cookies
  • I'm usually pretty good. But yesterday at chipotle, I totally asked my husband to get a diet coke. I don't know what came over me. Don't judge!
  • Ugh I failed this one today, I ate a small amount of tuna, soft cheese, though I think it said the milk was pasteurized, and salami and procuitto ! I couldn't help myself, I was at a bbq and it all looked so delicious.
  • I ate brie over the weekend.  I have eaten sushi (cooked, but I didn't mention my pregnancy to the waiter so who knows that it touched), hot dogs, deli meat, and a daily diet mt. dew.... honestly as long as you are getting your food somewhere you trust what are the odds of getting sick on it?  I did verify the brie was made with pastuerized milk.... a lot of other countries don't limit anything...
  • Mmmmmm. I had double bacon at IHOP on my breakfast sampler yesterday!
  • Stm here. I had sushi 4 times my first pregnancy, and I'm probably at that right now at 15w with my second one. I also get my steaks medium-rare because I don't feel like eating a shoe. When I'm not pregnant, I get mine as rare as possible, so I just don't eat steak very often when pregnant. As for deli meats, I tend to shy away from them, especially after I got food poisoning from Subway with DS. But that was from the lettuce and the attendant not changing their gloves between the meats and veggies.

  • I'm eating whatever the hell I want. That's how I've done it with every pregnancy.
  • My doctor told me I could eat whatever I ate before with no issues, though moderation for some things like sushi. So if I want it, I eat it. I make sure if it is a high Mercury fish, I limit it to 2 times a month. High protein is stressed though since I am in my 15th week.
  • Apparently I missed the part where hot dogs were a no-no (last I read, any meat brought up to cooked temp is fine) I had 3 weeks where hot dogs were the only protein I could look at lol so obviously I ate it all the time! Not a fan of cold cuts or sushi so no problems for me there. But cream cheese (any cheese really), mayo, and Caesar salad are still regulars in my edible list of foods. If it has not been craved at some level, I cant even look at it so I just eat what I can. I figure, if it has been stored, cooked, and handled properly it will be fine
