I never had any bad experiences with my first pregnancy or this one. No one every tried to grab my belly, no one ever said a nasty word. I think I have a bitchy resting face. That must be it.
Maybe this is why I have not had anyone say anything crazy to me. I DEFINITELY have a resting bitch face.
My SO and I were at the grocery store the other day and this guy stopped my SO when we walked in and I obliviously keep walking towards the food and don't know whats happening but I guess the guy pulled out his wallet and showed him a condom and said try using one of these next time. I was so mad when he told me what that doofus said. Mind your own business people.
OMG! He didn't punch the guy?!
He should have! No I think he was just shocked the guy said that. It really pissed him off though and as we shopped he said if he sees that guy again he's going to punch him.
@emilyshredder I would've tracked him down and chewed him out! Sadly, that's in my nature pregnant or not. Ha! We've had people ask us if we were sure we needed another 1! I have a son, stepson, & stepdaughter already.
I have shared on the board that I have never in my life had so many strange/rude/mean comments made to me until becoming pregnant. The latest one was when I was ordering a sandwich a few days ago.. (If there are any vegetarian/vegan ladies on here, maybe you feel my pain with the whole gaining up on you because you don't eat meat while pregnant. I have lost count about how many times I've heard a speech...)
"Egg and cheese please"-Me.
"want to add any meat to that?" The girl taking my order.
"No..? Thanks anyway...please no meat at all." Me.
Strange lady lurking up near me..."How fa along ah ya?" (in her awful Jersey City accent)
"I am due in about 8 weeks..." Me.
"And how long ya been not eatin meat?" Crazy lady.
"going on 14 years."
"Oh jesus Christ! Whattaya nuts?! This baby is gonna be malnourished! Ya know...I hadda friend once who didn't eat meat her whole pregnancy, and the baby came out craving meat!" - nut case lady.
"First of all, back off about 3 feet. Second of all...do your research about this topic before you attack a stranger. Third, I am highly SURE your friends baby didn't come out like a thirsty vampire child running to the meat section of the grocery store, sucking on packages of ground beef. Now excuse me, while I feed my malnourished unborn baby this breakfast sandwich." Fuming me.
She def. got the witch Marissa response. I am so FED UP with hearing this. SO...over...it. Done.
Today in the elevator I was in it with another woman.
Man asks other woman "you look like your about to pop." Women says "September 25th actually!"
Then looks at me and says "your probably due in November then?" I respond "August 7th!" Man responds "Are you ordering the salads at Arbys everyday?!" (after looking at my Arbys cup)
A couple of weeks ago I had an appt with my orthopedic surgeon to discuss my torn cartilage in my knee. I went up to the front desk to sign in and then was headed back to find a seat a few people shifted down a couple of chairs so I could have a chair closest to the exam rooms. I don't know if it was just because I was on crutches or because I am preggers or a combination of the two, but it was really sweet of those people!
Loving some of these stories. I have been lucky both pregnancies and not had anything too terrible happen.
A couple of weeks ago we were on holiday in a small tourist town - DH was working up there for a couple of days so I spent those days getting on and off the bus seeing the sights with DD. The first day, the bus was the kind you can wheel a stroller onto and leave it as is - all good. The second day, the bus was one with steps that you have to fold strollers up and stow them somewhere. So this bus driver says I have to fold the stroller to get on. Fine. I'm clearly pregnant and clearly having to carry a backpack and a help a toddler up the steps, but do you think he got off his lazy ass and helped me up? No. I got on the same bus with the same driver about five times that day and not once did he help me. Even when DD was fast asleep on my shoulder, so I had to carry her up in one arm and lug the stroller up the steps with the other. By the end of the day I was exhausted and I said to the driver 'jeez it's too bad if you're pregnant or have a pram in this town....'
On the plus side, other passengers offered to help me ... But only middle aged women....
@Miz_Liz Its always better to get carded than to not get carded, right? I bought a bottle of whiskey to give to my brother a couple weeks ago. She scanned it and I reached in my wallet to pull out my ID and she said, "It's okay, you're good." I almost cried right there hahaha
I go and buy my husband's beer if he needs more.. I hate the judging glances and glaring looks that the people and the cashier give me each time!! I'm like seriously! This isn't for me! Would you rather my husband drive drunk to get it or send your pregnant sober wife to get it? Plus, I don't drink beer, even when I'm not prengnant, whiskey is more my style. Lol. But The other weekend I was nearly in tears from the glaring judgy looks I was getting.
Ive been taking the T alot more this pregnancy and with DD. People continue to try and shove past us to get on the train. I not so politely run into their heels [-( with the stroller.. Oops
Nothing weird with this pregnancy but with DS I was working as a cashier. I was walking down the aisle and a random girl started gushing over my belly and asked to touch it. She was young and really sweet, not rude or creepy, so I let her. She was super happy about it and for me!
A lady at the grocery store asked me when I was due, I told her "Middle of August", she replies "Oh sweetie but your too small! Is there something wrong with your baby?"
Umm why would you ever say that to a pregnant woman?
I've noticed that men around here are SO excited to ask questions about my belly. They let me move ahead in lines or get doors for me and then ask when I'm due or what I'm having. I was truly surprised at how excited they seem. When they find out its a boy it's even more excitement.
I did have a guy burst into song (in the middle of a UPS store) about how it must have been a long cold winter since I was the second pregnant woman he'd seen in five minutes. He also applauded (in the middle of the store) when he asked if this was my first and I said yes. By this time he had everyone, including the staff, watching us from his singing and others were applauding too. It was a bit awkward but I just rolled with it. I've always been a magnet for weirdos...
I have had a lot of women who ask when I'm due and always say I won't make it that long because my belly is so big. I'm 33 weeks. I'm up 13 pounds and it's all in my stomach but I still don't feel like I look huge. Oh well.
ETA: the best part about the fact he thought it was a long cold winter? We live in Florida.
@GirlOnTheBeach I've been oddly not emotional/hormonal throughout my pregnancy. The only two times I recall crying for a reason that seemed totally absurd, it was about food. Ha. But the visual of people applauding you for becoming a mom just made my eyes well up at work. So there's that. :-??
I'm 29weeks, FTM with a boy. And this might seem stupid or crazy. But when ppl ask me how far I am or when I'm due. They don't believe me. They tell me I'm too small or make some comment like that. And it really hurts my feelings! like as if my baby is unhealthy. For instance I was at my best friends wedding last night. And this other girl who we both went to school with was there n made that same comment about being small."you can't be 7months! U look 4 months." (RUDE and hurtful)! This girl got married at 20, got pregnant right away and then pregnant again (Irish twins) and then again with her third(Irish twins again!) and I get if that's what she wanted. But she didn't even give herself time between to lose the weight she put on every time. And it's not my fault how I'm carrying or what I'm gaining. I've been really sick during my pregnancy also, the whole time! It's like she was taking out her anger n bitterness on me for whatever she was doing. At this point I'd rather have ppl tell me I'm big as a house, at least maybe then it wouldn't upset me so much implying my baby is u healthy. Which he measures perfectly every time.
I hope u other mommas don't take my posts wrong. It doesn't matter what size u r, ppl still hurt ur feelings n pass judgment. (
Maybe I'm the weird one but I actually LOVE when people touch my belly. It's comforting to me. This process is daunting and scary and having women encourage me that have been there and done that makes me feel safe.

You are the first pregnant woman I have ever heard say that! I personally don't like people in my personal space and hands on my body is almost unbearable for me.

I don't mind too much as long as they aren't creepy about it. I'm a touchyfeely person though. My bubble isn't very big!
I've been accused multiple times of hiding my pregnancy. I just didn't show untill I was almost 8 months and I didn't wear anything to enhance my bump as it makes me feel quite vulnerable. Apprerently this means I'm hiding my pregnancy even though I talk about it constantly lol. I've found women seem to be more insensitive and inappropriate then men which was surprising. Though the worst reaction I had was from a man who seemed shocked and almost fell over staring at me as I'd dared to wear shorts! In the summer!
I was running errands last week and had women in two different places stop what they were doing to tell me that I looked like I was "going to go any day now". The second one helpfully added "within a couple hours". Ummmmm..... I've got two more months. Thanks.

I also like it!!! I mean I haven't had any strangers come up to touch, but lots of peoplee where I work, whether or not they know me well. I've found the belly is an amazing conversation piece, everyone has story or wants to talk about pregnancy/bellys/moms/etc.
Aside from being asked multiple times if I'm having twins, the strangest was being whistled at in the grocery store parking lot. Seriously?! Pregnant, no make-up, had just finished shampooing the carpets. It was not a pretty picture, folks. I could NOT believe I was actually being whistled at!! I've also been told on several occasions that I'm "huge". What is wrong with people?!
I'm a FTM and have had nothing but great interactions. I'm from Los Angeles originally, and now live in Texas. The people here are wonderful. Men and women alike! People hold doors, pick up things when I drop them, wish me well, and haven't really said anything terrible. If people are suprised by how big my belly is for still having two months to go, I'm ok with that. Honestly I'm surprised by how big it is too. I'm only 5ft and have gained about 30lbs. But baby is healthy and I couldn't be happier. Sorry for all you mamas with bad experiences. Boob touchers would get punched. [-X
A random lady at a clothing store told me I had a cute bump. It totally made my day! Finally people can comfortably tell that it's a baby bump and not a beer gut lol.
Had my shower last weekend. 90 people, so fun but a sh*t show of unwelcomed commentary. I've also attached a picture from that day. I don't feel like I look THAT big. Am I nuts?
1. My aunts sitting around a table staring at me, whispering and laughing as I walk towards them. Then, they try to convince me that my doctor must have given me an incorrect due date. 2. One of my best friends is pregnant and was due in 11 days. She is carrying very far back and TINY and adorable. I walked past some of my parents friends that didn't see me and hear "did you see the other pregnant girl that is due in a week? She's smaller than Amy!" 3. Various other comments including, how low im carrying, must be having twins, how uncomfortable I look, etc.
I just chalk it up to that folks want to say something to recognize that you're pregnant and sometimes they don't realize that the words they chose are insensitive.
When I was about five months along a lady told me I was lying about being pregnant (I had a bump, it wasn't big but it was noticeable). Besides that my nephew saw my strechmarks and asked if I had a boo boo, I told him no. He looked so confused that I couldn't help but laugh! (Hes only 2 and a half)

Aw sorry! He was such an enthusiastic guy in general. Just beaming about it all. I can't even imagine how he would have reacted if he'd have known everything we went through to get to this point. ;-)
I went to a wedding this past Saturday which was in the late afternoon into evening. The temperature was tied for the hottest day on record for that date, so it was pretty steamy the entire night. We are officially due on August 14, so I've got a good two months (hopefully) before she makes her appearance.
The wedding was all held outside so there was really no escape from the heat except to the beautiful woodsy area just off the pavilion. Anyway, as I'm enjoying visiting with old college friends, literally woman after unknown middle-aged woman comes up to me and says "oh honey, I feel so sorry for you and this heat! You look like you are about ready to pop!" Uh no, I have two months left and I'm perfectly fine, just a little sweaty. I think my favorite comment of the evening was "I hope you don't go into labor tonight!!!" Yeah, me neither! Ugh

Honestly, I don't mind when people tell me that my bump is big, that I look huge (they're referring to my belly as I haven't gained weight anywhere else), etc. I am proud of my big bump! But someone insinuating that I'm lying about being pregnant? Oh hell no. I would've throat punched this b*tch. I'm a FTM and petite so it did take a while for me to start to show. I had to field tons of comments about how small I was. Nobody accused me of fibbing though!
This has been a really interesting post to go through. I have sympathized and shaken my head too many times to count.
My positive and negative experiences all came in one metro trip. I also live outside of DC and was offered a seat on a packed rush hour train. I gladly took it, because I get motion sick and standing is way worse for it. I was really grateful. This family of a mom, dad, two young teens, and the fathers sister started asking me the normal questions about my pregnancy I usually get from strangers. When are you due? What are you having? What's her name? I obliged in the convo, friendly and harmless enough. Then the father started talking about how his friend is graduating from midwife school, and I said oh that's cool. Then there was silence for about 5 minutes. And here's where the weirdness starts. He says... "How are you guys gonna get there?" I was like "excuse me?" He asked it again "how are you going to GET there?" I'm like "I'm sorry I don't really understand the question..." He said "you know, like having the baby. Are you going to have her naturally? Get an epidural?" I'm thinking pump the brakes guy, we don't need to talk about my labor and delivery choices. Awkward. I lied and said we haven't really decided.
I was walking down the stairs the other day at work because the elevator was out, and of course I was going slower because I can't see my feet anymore. A couple of med students got behind me on the stairs and apparently I was just going way too slow for one of them. This woman was literally on the step right behind me and even went as far as to put her hand on my shoulder to try and get around me. I guess I don't look pregnant from the back, so I stopped and turned to the side in this very narrow stairwell, and said, "If you're in that big of a rush, just go." She looked a little surprised when she saw my belly, but continued on past me. The guy she was with hung his head and apologized. The best part is...I then ended up right behind her in line at the Subway in the cafeteria. I guess she was really hungry.
So, not your "typical" story, but when I was pregnant with DD#1, I made a patient who was "unresponsive". Got there and it was an elderly man who was going in and out of consciousness. Loaded him up and climbed my 8mo pregnant self into the ambulance and proceeded to the hospital. Whenever he'd wake up, he'd touch me, on my ass, my belly, whatever he could reach. Finally, I had to tie his hands down with restraints. I bent over just as he was waking up and he grabbed my boob and said "Damn I love milk filled tits". I slapped him and had my partner pull-over and ride the call the rest of the way in. I then made sure to tell the nurses to keep any pregnant women away, and it'd be safest for them to just give him all male nurses and docs. Mind you...he was 93!!
This time around, I get "you look so tired", "You'll never make it past July", and "You look miserable, I don't know how you manage to come in every day".
Cody Lane - 4/22/2004 Colten James - 9/9/2005 Isabella Ann - 7/20/2012 SURPRISE!!! Emma Leigh - due 8/27/2015 (c-section date 8/7/2015)
I really don't like anyone but my husband touching my belly, especially in public. My mom is so sweet, but every time we go out in public she will just stop randomly in the middle of a store (or even reach across the table at a restaurant) to start poking around my belly for 5 minutes. I really hate it, but I know she is just excited and I don't want to be rude so I just try to ignore it.
The other really uncomfortable encounter I have had was with the mom of my husband's friend. She came right up to me and grabbed my belly and just started shaking it around. I was so shocked that I just stood there. She asked if people did that all the time and I just told her, "no, you are the first..."
Re: Interactions with strangers--let's hear it!
