Night sweats?

I am 9 days post partum and ebf. So tonight as I woke up for a feeding around midnight I was literally drenched in sweat, my hair was dripping, we had to change the sheets. My husband was concerned so we took my temperature and it is 96.1. Dr. Google has not been much help, has anyone else had experience or something similar happen?

Re: Night sweats?

  • I'm 19 days PP and I deal with this also. I just chalked it up to hormones. It's pretty gross in my opinion because I hate sweating lol. Hope it goes away soon.

  • Yep - 18 days PP and still have them. Some nights are better than others. OB said totally normal due to hormones.
  • Yep! Totally normal.. Your body is getting rid of the excess water due to not only pregnancy but also due to the IV you were hooked up to during labor (if that applies to you) it happened to me and on the 3rd day my prepregnancy pants fit again!!
  • Normal, all the hormones.

  • Thanks ladies! So brightside, my wedding ring might fit again soon.
  • I have these every night. So annoying to wake up drenched!! Hopefully they slack off soon but I'm almost a month out and still having them. We EBF to so I have to dry myself off before I feed and then due to an overactive let down have to dry myself off again! Oh the thrills of motherhood :D

I've had the same thing and I discovered that mine at night is due to engorged breasts as I tend to go longer between breastmilk being emptied at night. It's been better for me since I've started either feeding or pumping every three hours at night, but I still have the sweats a bit. Just in case yours might be due to the same thing you may want to try pumping or feeding a bit more at the times when you tend to get the sweats. Here's an article on breast engorgement:

Best of luck and know that you're definitely not alone :)
  • I get them every night . I'm 3weeks PP and getting cold chills my dr said is normal. Now I don't feel alone
  • I also get night sweats and then go back to bed (after feeding and pumping) and am cold. Still wake up really sweaty for the next feeding/pumping session. Although I have noticed this is going away. I'll be 3 weeks pp tomorrow and have not had night sweats for 3-4 nights now. So there is hope that this won't continue forever.
  • I think of it as my weight loss plan. It's uncomfortable, but it's nice to have ankles and feet that aren't huge and puffy anymore!
  • Interesting! Thanks for this post. I'm 3 weeks PP and have noticed my back is soaked when I wake up. I thought it was just me.
  • Oh my yes! Every night!
  • Wow I also thought it was just me! It's very annoying!
  • Im 5 wks pp and this still happens to me not only during the night but during the day too
  • I'm almost six weeks and still getting them

Same here. It doesn't matter how much deodorant I use I smell like a combo of breast milk, spit up and sweat at all times.
  • We are all just sweaty stinky mommas :)
