The illusive LP surge - OPK question

Hi, I'm new to the board and yes, I lurked and did my research on ovulation tests. I was hoping some of you ladies could clarify some conflicting information i have seen:

1) One place said that the LP surge happens in the morning, so you need to test in the evening - another place said to test with 1st morning urine

2) How easy is it to miss the surge? If i test in the morning and it happens at night, will it show negative the following day? It seems like you're supposed to test 2-3 times a day. is that true?

3) I am a frequent urinator, always have been. Just like some people hate holding in poo i hate holding in pee. Even at night i get up 1-2 times to use the bathroom (nothing wrong with me physically, just psychologically i hate having a semi full bladder), so since even my "1st morning urine" is diluted, how badly does that effect the OPK's? I know with pregnancy tests the HCG gets stronger so you will get to a point where even late night urine will show a BFP.

4) Also, could the ladies with irregular cycles weigh in on how they are able to test? This is my 1st month using opk's and actively TTC and since i dont have a regular 28/30 day cycle i'm not sure if I'm wasting my money with these tests

I think if you have trouble knowing when the surge is, you can test 2-3 times a times a day. Some of the charting veterans around here, know their surge happens at x time (ie they can turn a test at 8pm but never at 10am). So they revert to testing once a day around that time. I couldn't turn one last month, so this month I am using Wonfos as 2:30 and sometime in the evening and the CBA OPKs with FMU. Assuming I can turn one of those 3, next month I will probably stick with that time slot and test once a day.

Welcome!

This is my second month TTC. I have tried OPKs and have not gotten a positive. I think testing twice a day is good and from what I have heard between 10am and 7pm (so once at 10am and once at 7 or so). I am also like you and pee all the time and I drink a lot of water and tea and I think it has made it diluted. Most say you should hold your pee for 3-4 hours and that was impossible for me.

Have you been temping? Charting the BBT was the most helpful for me, it seems like a hassle but you get used to it quickly. If it wasn't for that I would never had known I ovulated last month.

Thank you all! I have been paying attention CM, and will try testing 2-3 times a day. I went to get a basal thermometer but my pharmacy was out

however, I think they one I have at home may work because it does show me the decimal/fractions of the temperature, but i'll still try to buy the fancy one. And yes, I do drink alot before bed. I drink all day and pee all day lol - i did check my blood sugar levels, they're normal so it's not blood sugar so I guess i just need to cut back on coffee and try not to drink before bed.

I know the "pee all the time" frustration! I typically drink lots of water and can rarely hold it for 3-4 hrs. I started using the Wondfos 3 time per day and the CB Digital just in the am. Since I was able to turn a positive in the am on both tests a few months in a row, I mainly only test in the am now. Like the previous poster, I drink plenty of water during the day & taper off. I make sure not to drink water after dinner the nights I know I'm going to test in the morning.

The Wondfos are great because they are so cheap I don't feel like I'm wasting them. I ordered them on Amazon & I also bought the little disposable cups to use. They help me see when not to bother testing as I can see when my urine is too diluted to test with.

Awesome! I've been reading alot about the Wondfos, i'm going to order some. The cheapest ones at walmart are 7 for $12.99, thats alot considering apparently you take about 20 per month lol.

Sort of side note?

Do any of you ladies test while at work? and how do you do it discretely? I think my problem is that I always have to pee about 1 hr before I go home ( I go home for lunch and at 5) so i always find the best time to test is at work

I test at work. I have hard sunglasses case (like brightly colored). I can fit the wondfos and some pee cups. I just take it to the bathroom. I figure someone will assume it's feminine products and won't ask. I wonder what the cleaning people think when they find pee cups in the tampon trash bin?

LOL! I take my tests home with me wrapped in toilet paper. Some of the older ladies caught me looking at our short term disability/ maternity leave policy and now give me weird looks and smile at me. lol

This was really helpful for me as this is my first time TTC and I'm a total newbie (eek!). I've been testing twice a day, once a at lunch and once in the evening. At work I just wrap things in toilet paper and place in the trash bin. Not that I'm trying to hide it, but I figure if anyone rifles through it, that's just weird and gross on many levels. I bring the test and cup in my purse and bring it in with me. I'm sure my coworkers assume it's AF time.

It's been removed - the poster was the user with the "utereses before dudereses" sticker and was outright cussing at the poster. I reported them and it was removed, since you guys were quick to report me I wont hold back either.

My doctor told me to test between 12-&2 in which I do but I also test with FMU and between 6-8. I keep my test and cups in a makeup bag and take it to the bathroom.

That person was not being bullied. That person did not follow the rules of LURKING and SEARCHING first. As a result she asked a question that has been asked a MILLION TIMES. It is not inherently a stupid question. It is stupid to ignore rules of an established community. I have seen real bullying, this is definitely not it and you are not a martyr. You are not the hero here.

Being an adult is following rules, and realizing that when you don't there are natural consequences.
