Im 40 weeks today and have a scheduled induction tomorrow night. This is my second baby, my first came on this exact due date 11 years ago. I never had one before and really wantes to know what to expect.
Well it definitely can take long, I don't know why I walked in thinking it would be 1 2 3. Also some medications or techniques might not work like I took the foley ballon, and the pitocin and nothing worked. So I'd say go in with an open mind and expect anything. And to just think after this wait you'll have your LO.
My induction was short. Started pitocin at 8:30 am with no contractions until 11 am when the Doctor broke my water. My daughter was here an hour later and no time for an epidural.
Mine was relatively quick, I went in the night before to start with cervidil but ended up being 2 cm and having contractions, so They ended up doing nothing that night. The next morning they started pitocin at 5:30am, dr broke my water at 9am, epidural at 10am, started pushing at 10:45 and she was born at 11am.
I went in at 2pm, got cervidil and was having 1 to 3 min contractions by 4pm. Water broke at 1am. Epiduaral at 5 am, pitocin sometime during then. Pushed at 2pm for 2 hours. I would never get induced again if I didn't have to. It was gnarly. Partially cause by the time I was pushing my epidural wore off. Try not to get it too early!
It wasn't too bad, just a waiting game once they broke your water. I had epidural when contractions started hurting so I didn't feel anything, hubby and I actually bonded and we had few good conversations while waited. Once dilated to 9 cm I pushed for about two hours, baby won't get pass pubic bones so doctor recommended c section. Even the csection was pretty fast, the procedure literally took about 30 mins. Again I didn't feel anything bc of the epidural, then I get to meet my 8lbs 7 oz baby boy:). No worries mama just go with the flow:)
I was really scared, but it turned out to be awesome!
Induced on a Friday afternoon and delivered Saturday at 10 PM.
Started with cervidil Friday afternoon. Then did two rounds of cytotec. The first round didn't do much, but the second round immediately started contractions. I got pain killers not long after and then got an epidural at only 1 CM about an hour later because my contractions were intense and frequent. The epidural was amazing and I even got feeling back in my legs just in time to push. I got the epidural pump so it would never run out I was told. I pushed for an hour. It was very calm the whole time. Which is not what I had thought it would be.
I hope you have a great experience too! Go in with an open mind. I worried way too much. I was very against being induced because I heard only negative stories. I know everyone is different though.
My induction went great but it took 2 days to get my cervix ready. I was not dilated at all when I was admitted, so it took 4 rounds of cervidil and the foley balloon to get things rolling. Once I was 3cm and they started the pitocin, my water broke on its own and the rest was smooth sailing! I'd absolutely do it again. Good luck!
I was induced with a midwife. At first we did castor oil then a foley balloon. I was 3cm when we started pitocin. The goal was to use as little pitocin as possible and have my body take over the labor. I started pitocin drip at around 10am and it wasn't until 11pm that I was 7cm dilated and my body took over. My total labor was 19hours and I pushed for 2 hours. Baby was born at 4am. It was a long and exhausting labor. Pitocin makes the contractions more intense. The contractions were not painful until I reached 7cm. But I was able to do it all with no medication, no epidural. The worst part about it was how exhausted I was by the time I was able to push. But I somehow managed. My DD had her arm around her neck and the cord around that so that was part of what made the pushing take so long! Overall the experience was difficult and exhausting.
My experience was a unique one... I started with cervadil because I wasn't dialated at all, and the nurse said after 12 hours we would start pitocin and then I'd have the option of an epidural. Well not 6 hrs after they put in the cervadil I had contractions that made me writhe in pain, and next I knew my water broke and I was already dialated two cm, I immediately went into transitional contractions that you would experience at 7cm. I got an epidural because the pain was all in my back and I was screaming with every contraction. Before fully dialated they transported me to the OR, and next thing I knew I was pushing for about 15 min and out comes my first daughter, and 16 minutes later out comes my second daughter. It really depends on how your body reacts to the meds. But good luck and may it be a quick and easy process for you!
I had the foley balloon inserted Monday night, when I was at 2cm. About and hour later I started cramping and it was ready to come out and I was at 3cm. My water broke on its own shortly after. I was then scheduled to start pitocin at 9am the next day but my contractions started on their own over night and by 9 I was getting an epidural instead of pitocin! Baby came at 3:30pm.
