Weekly Appt's...June 8-12

What's happening this week at the doctor, ladies?!
I was looking for this thread all day! It's always fun to see others' progress, when I'm not making any of my own. ;)

Re: Weekly Appt's...June 8-12

  • Had my NST and ultrasound today to check my amniotic fluid. Baby is totally healthy, but the doctor* decided to sweep my membranes without asking me beforehand or even telling me. So I'm a tad annoyed right now. And she didn't tell me anything about my cervix. So I have no clue if I have progressed since last week. :(
*My doctor was gone today so I had one that I have never seen before.

  • My appt is on Thursday, when I switch over to a new week. It feels so far away!!
  • Soooo frustrated with my doc right now. At apt still no progress from 4 weeks ago, still 1cm&70% despite my very best efforts......Said he'd call last night with a date that I can get in for an induction (the hospitals around here are super busy?? Idk) and he never called!! I literally slept with my phone in my hands. And to make it worse DH told me it's not a big deal, just pretend like it's Wednesday. Why would I get all excited to get this baby out and then be disapointed to hear there's no room wednesday?!? I wanted to kick his butt last night...
  • @megtyrrell YAY good luck mama..will be thinking of you!
TTC: 1/2014 BFP: 9/24 EDD: 6/8/2015 Sorry for the poor man's siggy...ticker won't load regardless of how many tips I read.
  • @megtyrrell woohoo!!! Have a baby today!
I also have appt Thursday, @Westypet. I'll be 38 +2. My doc is out of town, so seeing another.
  • Had my 38 week appt yesterday and I let my midwife check me. I have contractions almost every evening and I needed some validation that I was making some sort of progress! Dilated to 3.5 from 1 cm about two weeks ago and 60% effaced and despite it not really meaning a ton, I'm just happy my body is moving somewhere toward where it needs to be! My own midwife will be on vacation until she's on call on Saturday but the one midwife I don't particularly care for isn't on call for the next few days so I'm ready whenever this baby is!
  • 39 and 4 appointment today. Finally got checked and thank god it was done by the only OB in the practice that I like who has been doing it for 30 years so he is gentle. Purple line in butt crack theory actually held about true for me according to the doctor!
  • I wrote this in another part.. It was at the top I was working my way down.. Found out she breeched.. Booooo . waiting to talk to the Dr now. She weighs about 6 pounds 4 ounces. .(37weeks ) she was practicing breathing. :x
  • Good luck, @megtyrrell !!!!! Yayyyy!!!
  • 38 +2 today and still at 3cm and 80% effaced. Doc wanted to strip membranes, so hopefully that gets things moving.... I'm crazy nervous about the possibility of going into labor while my hubs is at work though, he works 25 minutes away and our hospital is 30 minutes away! Plus, no cell phones in the building so I'll have to rely on whoever picks up the work phone to actually go find him and hope that he can leave.
  • Went in for an NST and progress check yesterday. The little nugget was barely moving yesterday so I was worried. Everything is great there! I had been having contractions since Friday night. My midwife checked me for the first time at 39w + 3d. Turns out I'm having prodromal labor, my cervix is still closed, and I'm completely bummed. For now I'm told to just ignore the contractions until they become more painful or my water breaks. Hopefully there will be some progression on Friday when I get rechecked.

Just had my weekly appointment with my MW. I'm 3cm dilated and 50% effaced at 38+6. MW did a pretty rigorous sweep so I'm spotting now. It was uncomfortable but bareable. Hoping I continue in the right direction (was only 1cm and 0% effaced at my last appt). Have an appt on Thursday with my OB and I have a feeling it's going to be an induction discussion due to an increase in some cardiac episodes I've experienced this past week. Being sent for an ECG on Thursday so if that comes back all clear I should be able to avoid an induction! Fingers crossed!

  • good for your @mollyanne01 !! You're my hero!
So excited for you @megtyrrell !! i hope everything goes smoothly and that LO will be here soon!
  • Had my 38+4 week appointment yesterday, I'm 1 & 1/2 cm dilated and about 75% effaced. My doctor asked how eager I was for baby to come and honestly, I'm not that eager yet. She said she would sweep the membrane if I wanted her to to speed things up. I said no for this week.

What do they do when. they sweep the membrane? Does it hurt? I'm a FTM, so I was very unsure about this. Advice please?

There was a thread about this not too long ago that will probably be very helpful, but most people will say, yep, it's very painful! I nearly jumped off the table when they did it with DD.
  • 39 weeks today. I'm almost 3 cm. scheduled to be induced on June 23, but she says she doesn't think I'll need it. Oh, and she's going to be on vacation next week. Joy! I feel like I'm probably gonna be pregnant forever.

I feel ya. Also 39 weeks and 3 cm. My midwife won't even discuss induction until I'm overdue. I would cuss her out, but she happens to be my SIL and apparently that's frowned upon...whatever. Chin up! We'll make it.
  • 39 +2 ultrasound today for growth.... lots of fluid and baby measuring around 9 lbs. Only 1.5 cm dialted. Starting to feel like she's never going to be here
  • @mollyanne01
I am really hoping my doctor can deliver me. The only other doctor available left a wad of gauze in one of my friends who had her baby about 6 months ago. He's the reason they do gauze counts in L & D now.

I had it done last time. Twice nothing happened. Lol my luck. It didn't "hurt" it was a little pressure like an exam just a little longer. But my Dr is really gentle and has tiny hands. ( female)
  • @meganlynn95 I've had my membrane sweeped twice , 38 and 39 weeks and if she doesn't come by Thursday will have it done again at 40. Not sure how to describe what they do besides they put a glove on, put lubricant on their fingers and literally go inside and sweep your insides. The first time it didn't hurt too much, second time it hurt a bit but it was nothing unbearable, at least not for me. It's really hit or miss, if you're body isn't ready nothing is going to come out of it. At 38 weeks absolutely nothing happened, at 39 weeks I lost my mucus plug the next day. It just depends on the person I would say.
  • 38 + 4, 2 cm dilated 60% effaced. refused a sweep. just holding out. contractions since Friday but not regular enough to warrant anything yet

They should ALWAYS do sponge/gauze counts. We do them for every single delivery. Cesarean or Virginia.

They counted everything in front of me,nurse and doctor.

I still can remember the counting after my first csection. I think they got up to the 80s!
  • Went in for my 37 week appt. No check...yeah! I was measuring 40 weeks (I have GD), so I had an ultrasound this afternoon to check size. Ultrasound was right on with size. I do have a normal but on the high side of normal amount of fluid. Since, a VBAC is most likely not an option (still high, no contractions, no dilation), I am going to move my csection to the 22nd when I am 39 w 3 d
  • Had my 37+2 appointment today. Doc spared me the cervical exam which was fine by me even though I'm a bit curious as to if I have progressed any from last week.

He had me schedule an ultrasound for next week to check the size of our little one as he thinks she may be getting a bit on the big side (borderline GD). I'm assuming, if so, he will want to schedule an induction which makes me both nervous and relieved for many reasons. We shall see...

Also, happy to report that I remembered to ask about my GBS test result and it was negative.

Maybe they didn't before? Idk. She said the wad was the size of her fist. She thought she was dying. I'll be doing everything I can to go into labor this week and if that doesn't work out, I'll asking for the midwife instead.

This hospital usually has a great l&d department. But Drs and midwives have left like crazy in the last year and they haven't replaced them yet. They have 2 Drs, 1 midwife, 1 nurse practitioner left.
  • @dancegurl1118 haha...I tried to respond nicely to that one. Didn't like it....I'll stick to sarcasm from now on.
  • @dancegurl1118 yeah it could work..... But if she's been here longer than 2 seconds as a poster she would know everyone's thoughts since that thread is old as the hills! So..... I had to......!

Yeah, when I read that I was like - um, we do gauze counts on animals... I should damn well HOPE they do them on people!

(Well, most of the places I have worked did gauze counts. My last boss probably didn't, cause she's a terrible person, but I'm sure my friend who was lead tech there did them when she assisted. She don't mess around)
    Baby Birthday Ticker Ticker
  • This gauze count really freaks me out. My MIL almost died when she delivered DH because the doctor left a sponge inside her. Apparently he stitched her up when no one else was in the room. She developed a terrible fever and from what I understand was septic. She was afraid to have more kids and only got pregnant with SIL because she was on antibiotics and forgot to use backup birth control. DH and his sister are 7.5 years apart.
