  I like them both, almost equally, but I will vote Claire Elise. Clara Isabelle is nice also. I'm not a fan of Penelope.

  Claire is a great name but a little plain - Clara is prettier IMO. Love Clara Isabelle. Good luck!

  Claire feels dated to me while Clara is an understated classic; it feels more timeless, even if it's not particularly popular. My vote is Clara Isabelle; I don't care for Penelope.

  I much prefer Clara to Claire. Julie and Clara sounds so nice together and just rolls off the tongue.

  I much prefer Claire over Clara and Claire Elise is a great name! I think Claire is classic and beautiful while Clara seems more juvenile (although I don't know why).

  I just posted a similar question a couple days ago. I think if you choose Claire a long middle name like Elizabeth, Penelope, Magnolia, Evangeline and if you choose Clara then the middle name should be short like Faith, joy, june, rose, Grace.
  I'm torn between which one I love more. My thinking is with Clara , you can always call her Claire but with Claire you can't cAll her Clara.

  If your last name has one syllable I'm tempted to go for Clara because it has 2 syllables to balance out when saying first and last together? Just a thought because both names are nice and I don't prefer one over the other

  I like both a lot. Clara is definitely getting more popular each year while Claire is a bit more timeless. But like I said both fantastic. I do agree with a one syllable last name Clara might be better.

  I much prefer Claire to Clara. I don't feel it's plain at all... in my mind it's classic and simple like Sarah and Amy. I love the combination Claire Elise but if you want the middle name a bit longer for flow then Claire Elizabeth is perfect!

  I love them both but I do think that Clara works better with a one syllable last name like the others have said. Clara Isabelle is very pretty. Some other ideas for Clara:

  My middle name Is Clare, i always thought it was kind of plain but i had a more unusual first name that it balanced out. I vote for Clara as a first name, it is classic and elegant. But they are both lovely and with a great meaning.

  Thanks!! I got a lot of nice suggestions. I am Elizabeth myself and wasn't wanting to use it, even though it's been passed down in our family. My mom is annoyed with me over that. But Claire Elizabeth does sound nice, and I still love Claire Elise. Other favorites of mine are Adelaide and Olivia, so I'll run those by DH tonight! With our one syllable last name, Clara might sound better with the two syllables, but it also got me thinking that it might sound worse than Claire with our particular last name (it rhymes with ball and starts with H). I think when you say it out loud, most people will think you said Claire anyway. I'm still torn between the two!

  My DD is Claire Lorraine so I'm a little biased I love Claire Elise. It sounds great together so that would be my pick.
