My pain management plan went out the window with a backwards and at times sideways facing head slamming on my tailbone and sciatic nerve, with contractions every 1.5 minutes. I bet the candles would've totally helped though. The epidural didn't completely take and wasn't working at all with pushing so...pain management was lots of screaming and reminding myself that there was nothing that could be done except the baby coming out.

Sorry for the poor man's siggy...ticker won't load regardless of how many tips I read.

That is terrifying!! Was DH there? Any comfort at all??
Breathing went out the window but they wouldn't give me an epidural until the balloon catheter was out so I was in a lot of pain and breathing was my only option... The birthing ball provided relief but it interfered with the fetal heart monitor so they kept making me lay in bed ... They also wouldn't let me walk around with the balloon in so it limited my ability to get comfortable...after I was dilated to 5 I got the world's greatest epidural and it changed my birthing experience... Last time I had to unplug it and was in so much pain during pushing... This time I felt all the pressure and no pain and it was amazing to be so present to my body's movement without being immobilized by pain... Can't believe how different my two experiences were but I would choose an epidural again after this experience!
@Westypet he was, and as was my friend who was my nurse and my doctor for almost the whole 2.5 hours of pushing (poor woman). I crowned for about 15 minutes because her head was coming out sideways, she had a giant vagina shaped bruise on the side of her head towards her ear. I get overwhelmed sometimes thinking about it because it was just such a shitty birth and not how I planned it or imagined it especially after seeing births everyday... However I know it could have always been worse and her heart rate didn't dip the entire labor or pushing so I was allowed to continue. Very thankful for her cooperation, lol.

I have nothing but empathy for you. I'm glad you had a good outcome but that doesn't make it easier or less painful. I remember thinking with DS "there has to be a better way" and realizing the other way involved cutting my abdomen open, so you just grit your teeth and do the work. I hope you heal quickly!
