Brushing teeth

Im a FTM, expecting my daughter in November. I have never had issues with brushing my teeth and feeling nauseous afterwards, but ever since I found out I was pregnant, I've been dealing with this. I've tried a softer toothbrush and different tooth paste to see if maybe that was what was bothering me, but I'm still having issues. Any other moms experience this? Was there anything you found that helped?

Thanks in advance.

There was another post about this recently that had a couple of suggestions.  You might check there.  Hope you figure something out! https://forums.thebump.com/discussion/12559994/brushing-teeth

  • Thanks. It's driving me insane because I can't even think about food for hours after I brush my teeth it makes me so sick.
  • Every time I brushed my teeth with an empty stomach, I got sick. It eventually went away, but for a while it was like playing some sort of vomit roulette. I blame the empty stomach.
  • I usually eat breakfast before I brush mine because of that very reason, but I still have issues. It's almost like having braces from the first time all over again and you're not sure how to brush your teeth without causing pain or in this case vomit.
  • YES! I gag every time I brush my teeth.
  • Yes me too ! Though thankfully it is now happening less than before. One thing that did help was brushing my teeth with my eyes closed. I have no idea why it helps but definitely improved it for me. :)
  • I haven't had too many issues, but my hygienist told me that she's heard that brushing in the shower helps - as sometimes the nausea is caused by bending over, and in the shower you're standing up
  • I had this issue with my first.  I could only brush my teeth once a day in the shower in the morning or I would just sick.  Not sure why, but I did talk to my dentist about it and there were some things to try (changing toothpaste, toothbrush, what not), but nothing really helped me.  I just kept my dentist in the loop and tried the best I could.  I didn't have any issues with my dental health afterwards, but I made sure I was VERY diligent with my teeth after having my daughter.
