STM who has had a c section

Had An emergency c section, drs say no driving for 6 weeks, 1 week tomorrow post surgery I'm feeling great no pain meds or pain and no restricted movement. Feel like id be fine driving now but I won't until doc says okay.

However we are a single car family, my husband doesn't have his car license yet so we are relying on everyone to help out which makes me nervous and incredibly restricted .

Just wanting to know how many weeks post section was it before the dr have his clearance to drive or did you wait out the 6 weeks??

Wow. 6 weeks? I just had my second c/s and my doc lets me drive when I am off of pain meds and I am able to stomp the brakes without pain. I am one week post op and will probably drive this week.

  • 2 weeks post op and they say it's not related to pain meds. They believe reaction time is slower so that's why they say two. I can drive on Thursday!!!

I was told only a week....

  • Driving is fine if you aren't flying high on pain meds. Just be careful with movements. You may feel fine but make sure you rest so your insides can heal.
  • In aus standard advice is 6 weeks post op. Thanks ladies will certainly go to docs today to try get cleared.

This is the Australian guidelines for medical fitness to drive. Post C section only has a brief mention in section 4.3 as a temporary condition that may affect driving, but it looks like there's no set legal time limit (compared to conditions such as epilepsy where you can't legally drive for a set period post a seizure). So it looks like your doctor may very well be able to clear you to drive if you're doing well, have full mobility and are off strong painkillers. One thing to think about is seatbelts, depending on how your wound is healing.
